Old Omega
Outstanding Cuban food [I believe unequalled ever since it closed] at a reasonable price ----- and reliably frigid air conditioning in the summer. I miss it very much.
Drip Coffee / Baked Goods near West End
I've always liked the coffee at the Turkish coffee house CAFE TUOTU | 2816 Pennsylvania Ave. NW on the edge of Westend http://www.cafetuotu.com/
DC Bakery Specialities
When I visited friends I used to give DC bakery specialties like Clement's pastries and Reeve's strawberry pie. All gone.
Any suggestions on current DC special cakes/pies?

Comments? Thank you
Churreria Madrid [Champlain Street @ Columbia Rd]
Early afternoon; the sign on the door says it opens at 11 am.
Churreria Madrid [Champlain Street @ Columbia Rd]
I've passed by Churreria Madrid 2505 Champlain Street several times in the last 2 months and each time it has been closed.
Is it out of business or am I just going at the wrong times?

Beau Thai
has anyone had experience with the new Thai restaurant,Beau Thai? I think the neighborhood is called Bloomingdale.
Gold Crust Baking Company, Alexandria - Anybody have an opinion?
I agree with several of the other posters about the Swiss Bakery and Heidelberg; good but not great. I tpp have been looking for decades for a great German bakery in DC/Virginia.
Florida Avenue Grill
I used to eat there regularly but haven't for 6-7 years. Has the gentrification of the area changed it? Has anyone had recent experience there?

Quantico : Command Post Pub
Whenever I'm on Quantico I notice the Command Post Pub which appears to be a cut above the other town restaurants. I've never been in Quantico at a meal time so I haven't tried it. Comments from anyone who has?
Havana Grill / Cuban Restaurants in general in DC/NOVA
The other day I noticed the new Havana Grill, on Stevenson Ave and Van Dorn Street, next to Best Buy. It looks vast and cavernous and since it was early in the morning I couldn't get in. It appears to be more a sports bar than a Cuban restaurant, in spite of its name.
Has any one tried it? Goes it have any/good Cuban food?
Is there ANY Cuban [not Latin American ] restaurant in DC/NOVA that's recommendable?
Old Town Alex Chinese
Thanks for the tip on Shanghai Peking; With the name I found a few reviews [both sitdown and carry out] at:

Old Town Alex Chinese
For Chinese food I go either to DC Chinatown or Dynasty Restaurant in Hayfield; but there must be something good in Old Town.
Since China Kind closed a few years ago the only Chinese Restaurant I know of is the carry out in the old little tavern at the north end of Washington street. I've heard positive things about it but it is basically carry out.
Is there any [good] sit down Chinese [not Thai, not Vietnamese, not Korean] restaurant in Old Town?
Pierogis in the District?
I came across this sort-of Polish restaurant. Has anyone had experience with it/ its pierogi? W Domku Bar & Cafe 821 Upshur St. NW, Washington, DC 20011

Pierogis in the District?
I'm also looking for pierogi in the DC area and hope someone can suggest a source.
Indigo Landing?
There are many comments on the food so I won't make another one.
What I found negative [last visit about 2 months ago] was the "feel", the ambience of the restaurant.
With so many windows it still seemed dark and - I realize I'm being subjective - tired, dog eared.
Good Bread in NoVa?

St. Joseph Day foods in DC/No Virg area
Since the Italian bakery in Old Town on King near Washington closed many years ago, I haven't seen a bakery that makes good St. Joseph Day cakes [zeppoli]. Since March 19 is approaching, is there one in DC or Northern Virginia making these pastries and making them well?
Best Bread Baker DC/NOVA? (for sale by loaf, not restaurants!)
I drive 15 miles one way to get one particular bread from the Swiss Bakery http://tinyurl.com/33yugd : the standard German Mischbrot, mixed grain with a substantial body and cut in chunks [or sliced for you] from immense loaves.
I believe the only place in the DC area you can get this bread fresh [not frozen Dimpfelmeyer's]. STRONGLY recommend this bread from the Swiss Bakery
Pierogi in Ten Oaks ??
I was told there is a restaurant southeast of Baltimore in the direction of Annapolis that regularly has pierogi on its menu. The name was said to be something like "10 Oaks" or "10 Elms" but I haven't been able to locate it.
Is anyone familiar with it?
Gnocchi in NOVA and DC
Recommendations for restaurants that serve especially good gnocchi, particularly in varied varieties [the gnocchi, not just the sauce]?
A clean, well lit place (with wifi, good coffee, etc. etc.)
I'm a little surprised at the listing of Mischa's. Whenever I've tried to use wifi there, the signal's been very weak and available only at one table near the window. Apparently coming from outside the cafe. Have they instituted their own wifi hot spot now?
