salubre trattoria has reopened in the same spot in the same building. but,it has new owners and nicer atmosphere. we have been there several times both for dinner and lunch and enjoyed ordering from the new menu. i hope others try it as we would like to see this new version survive and prosper

A Surprise Trip to Nice, France
my son and wife live in nice and we visit there every year. last year they took us to
Parcours LIve Restaurant, Falicon
1, place Marcel Eusébi, Falicon 06950
it is definitely off the tourist map, but worth the visit. if you can get there before the sun sets you will have a great view of the city. after dark you can look down on the twinkling lights of nice.
we loved the food and the ambiance
bon appetit
Help: What's the Right Countertop?
for any years we had formica as we didn't havee the dollars to upgrade. i considered corians my next countertop but after careful pricing, monitoring for care, etc. i chose granite. i am completely satisfied. hot pots can be put on the surface. i don't have the extra shiny type, but have a busy pattern with a very low shine. i can go days without applying anything more than a sponge. i highly recommend it and it also blends well into most kitchen redesigns.
just my opinion
can i make this two days before thaksgiving?
i would love to make the apple-cranberry pie from cooks illus. but could i make it on tuesday to serve on thursday. i am traveling to my son's house on wed and told them that i would bring the pie. do people think this would hold up well and if not what kind of pie would do-please no pumpkin or its variations.

one month in battersea [London]
my husband and i will be spending january in an apartment in battersea. we would love to get info on good, reliable restaurants of all types of food, good food shopping, good cultural venues-theatre, cinema, etc. and anything else one might think pertinent to a couple from far off new england
Prepared meals delivered for seniors--best packages?
i suggest calling the local senior center in her town or nearby town and arrange to have her put on the meals on wheels delvery list. the food is well prepared and can be adjusted to eet special dietary needs. i have been delivering meals on wheels in my area for many years and find the food to be well prepared hot and tasty. try this to keep her well supplied with one hot meal a day.
Must Try Restaurants Within an Hour of Hanover, NH?
how about trying peyton place in orford, nh. quite good if you can tolerate the hostess-she is a bit too smarmy for us. then there is home hill in plainfield, nh great place and good food. there is a great restaurant in brandon, vt, but i forgot its name. also go into woodstock, vt for pane e salute, also prince and the pauper and the woodstock inn.
that should keep you busy for a while!
Where do you keep the Kitchen Aid mixer?
i was surprised to see that this topic is still open, but as it is i will give my opinion. last year we redid the kitchen and i insisted on a lift up shelf for the KA mixer. my kitchen designer thought it was a ridiculous and expensive idea, but i insisted. i have never felt that i made a mistake. it is tucked away, doesn't take up counter space and is easy to pop up to counter height when i need, i have never regretted the expense
A Source for Seville Oranges in Vermont?
hi- i just checked the hanover coop store and found they had a small basket of seville oranges priced at $1.29 per lb. so they do exist, but you will have to get down to this area to buy them
Lakes Region NH: Looking for better than average food...
sorry, but i have to disagree with Mise en Place in wolfeboro. we went there for lunch this summer and found the food just okay. we had hoped for a better lunch and all we got was very average. maybe dinner is better but just to let you know
Rte 89 through Vermont.
i am suprised that no one has mentioned exit 1 on rte 89 just out of white river junction. it is the woodstock exit and there are several good restaurant in the close vicinity. such as simon pearce in quechee, in woodstock pan e salute, worth th few miles extra, prince and the pauper and the stodgy but good woodstock inn. this is only mentioning a few. if you go into nrwich as steve999 suggests i reall prefer carpenter and main. it is more interesting a place than the norwich inn. and if you have gone into norwich you may want to visit hanover, n.h. which is just across the conn. river. there are a few nice/interestin places there
good luck and happy travelling
chow in NH/VT between Boston and Burlington
a nice town to stop and relax in is hanover nh. exit 18 on 89 . only 11/2 hours from burlington on 89. i would recommend the canoe club on main street. very pleasant atmosphere with a nice bar and good food. also has dartmouth college with a lovely center green, art museum and interesting shops. have fun

help cooking grass fed beef
i bought a standing rib roast from a locally raised grass fed beef. now i am wondering how to properly cook it. the reason that i am hesitant to commit to cooking this piece of meat is that i have already grilled a steak from this animal and we found it very chewy, hard to slice and were disappointed at the lack of juiciness. we had hoped to get a succulent flavorful piece and instead found it lacking in most of the aspects we desire in a steak. so rather than do up the standing rib roast i will put it to you chowhounds to help me make the most of this piece of meat.
i know you can help me to enjoy this locally raised meat.
thanks

Any good carrot cake recipes?
i am not going to make any comments about recipes-only about the carrots. if you do make the carrot cake, choose california carrots, only. they are much sweeter than canda, michigan or the others. you will really find a difference.
good luck
yuzu in Portland?
i don't know about portland, but i come from new hampshire and can't find it. so last weekend on my way into boston i stopped at a japanese grocery in porter square and bought two bottles. one for me and one for a friend. i would also suggest going on the web to search for internet stores
good luck

What’s your favorite menu to serve a party of 6??
funny, you should ask that- i just had a dinner party for six this past weekend. we started off with a sweet green pea soup served with a finishing dollop of heavy cream as i was out of creme fraiche. then i made one of my most favorite easy but impressive chicken meals-called chicken dijonnaise. it consists of lightly sauteed chicken breast in a sauce made of onions, mushrooms ,cut up artichoke hearts, wine and dijon mustard and finished off with some cream to smooth it all out. i served it with haricots vert and acini. the end was a tarte tatin that went wonderfully well. everyone went home satisfied...
i can post the dijonnaise recipe if anyone is interested but can't do it till next week as i am going away tomorrow for the remainder of the week
good eats in akumal
we are going to be in akumal for one week around xmas time. can anyone recommend some good restaurants in the area.

How do you Fage?
i buy the plain fage, i.e. without any additions. then at home i add good quality honey or strawberry jam. i take a spoon of yogurt with a little bit of my added topping. and it is real yummy
Hong Kong Eatery
