High Tea - London

Whoever suggested Brown's for high tea, I was SORELY disappointed, as I went this week based on these recommendations. It was very disappointing! The service was crap, the servers were running around like chickens with their heads cut off, we had to ask for water (cold and hot) refills repeatedly, they left dirty dishes and glasses for a long time before we had to request moving, it took them 25 minutes to get us a check, after we asked 3 different people. The food: the egg salad bland and flavorless, the curry chicken was gross, the cucumbers in the cucumber sandwiches were rubbery, not fresh. The only redeeming thing to eat was the scones, with clotted cream and jam, so basically we paid 40 pound ($75) for 3 scones with cream and jam. The atmosphere was lovely, the piano player amazing, but is it too much to ask to have at least ONE British person serving the British tea? VERY DISAPPOINTING, don't go!!!

BEST CHINESE IN MONTEREY PARK

Hi Raytamsgv...

I did a tour of the best Chinese dishes in Queens (see http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/20...) and want to replicate that here in Los Angeles. I'm looking for the most delicious Chinese specialties, including pork dumplings, hand pulled noodles, soup dumplings, desserts, etc. etc. I don't eat seafood but I'll try anything else with meat and vegetables. Thanks!

Mind boggling to take on the idea of deciding where we should take a friend who has never been in New York...

Requirements:

Downtown--preferably LES, East Village
Type cuisine is open--no Asian, nothing too ethnic...
Great atmosphere
Delicious food
$30-$50 a person
Good cocktails/wine
Quintessential New York

Any help would be appreciated...

Reasonable Mexican

Barrio Chino is my favorite place. Not cheap for sure, but the food is delicious and the jalapeno and habanero margaritas are special.

Client Lunches in Chelsea

We just moved into office spaces on 25th Street @ 7th Avenue. We are at a loss for where to bring clients for lunchtime meetings. Any place close, delicious, and type of food and nothing too expensive (although I would love to hear about those places for special occasions).

Thank you!

High School Reunion Dinner

Cuisine preferences--non-complicated, non-fusion, non-trendy that is a crowd pleaser for all types of palettes. Downtown preferably, fun means not stuffy, not pretentious, a place we can unwind, talk and meet...

Per Se-What to eat and wear?

Dress nicely...nothing overly fancy is necessary but it is a special night on the town. If you are not vegetarian, I would strongly suggest against getting the vegetarian menu...the meat and the fish are so exquisitely prepared... enjoy...what an amazing treat!

Need a fun restaurant for a group of 14...

my old stand-by, and many would disagree, is carmine's in times square. yes, it can be packed and yes, it's the heart of tourist-ville, but the food never disappoints, they make kick-ass drinks, and the bill is always less than you think its going to be. when i lived out of town i would make my friends meet me there, and the die-hard new yorkers grumbled and groaned, but everyone left with a big smile and a full tum. they take reservations for big groups so you don't have to wait.

Bar Bossa INSTEAD of Cafe Habana

Oh yes!! Barbossa is great!! My favorites are the sausage appetizer in red sauce, the pressed sandwiches and the Bracciola Milanesa (bread crumbed steak stuffed w/ prosciutto, fontina & basil). Don't miss the Caramelized Banana w/ coconut tapioca dessert or the guiness chocolate cake either. Yum yum! Oh, and the drinks are authentic Brazilian...get a "abacashee roska" = pineapple + cachasa (the national Brazilian alcohol). Yum yum!!

Yuva (Indian restaurant, E.50's)

My family and I LOVE this place! The lamb chops are so tender and delicious we always get a couple of orders so there is plenty to go around. It does get crowded on weekend nights but the owners are lovely so you wont feel rushed out the door.
