Restaurant ideas in Richmond, VA

My 13yo son and I are coming to Richmond next weekend, I'm looking for some restaurant ideas that locals enjoy and are hopefully uniquely Richmond. We're staying downtown, I have a car. We're from Philadelphia where there's more restaurants per square mile than anywhere in the USA so fancy/expensive isn't necessary, I just want to get a feel for Richmond.

Any suggestions would be great thanks!

Baltimore-Old school restaurants? No touristy or chain places please

I'm coming to Baltimore this weekend with my 13yo son who's a good eater. I embarrassingly have never really spent time in Baltimore and would like to check out some restaurants that are old school/Baltimore institutions (aside from Phillips).

We live in Philadelphia so ethnic food is abundant here and doesn't have any novelty for us. I'm particularly interested in anywhere good in little italy. I'll have a car so willing to drive. Staying in Timonium. Any suggestions for things to check out aside from the Aquarium would be great too. The only areas in Baltimore I've been are Charles St, Fells Point and in the burbs.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Brunch in Ardmore area with good bloody marys?

I've lived in the ardmore area for most of my life and while I'm not a a brunch guy, I can pretty much tell you there are no good restaurants in general around here. I've never been to Plate (overall I never go out to eat here) but let me know how it was.

Russian vs. Thousand Island dressing [moved from Home Cooking]

That recipe for Russian Dressing sounds great, could I please get it from you?

Looking for interesting/non-touristy places to eat in D.C.

Looking for interesting/non-touristy places to eat in D.C.

Hello: I have barely spent any time in D.C. ever and am bringing my 12yo son for the first time next week. Aside from the typical tourist stuff I'm curious to know what else there is see and where to eat.

I tend to like stuff off the beaten path, good ethnic/vegetarian food is a big one with me and food that is unique to a certain place. I was in Georgetown a few years ago and found it incredibly boring. There's plenty of nice streets with chain stores in Philly, didn't need a special trip for that.

We'll be staying at the big Marriott hotel next to Wardman Park and will be traveling by metro so any suggestions are appreciated.

Is this place I found called the Palace of Wonders worth seeing?

Is Adams Morgan worth going to, I know to avoid it on the weekends if you don't want to be around drunken college kids.

Thanks for your help

The best authentic pizza in the Philly area

No-it's a real South Philly place way down in south philly. I read that Slice was good though, definitely need to try it although it's not cooked the right way.

Name of the big Italian market in north jersey (they have a few locations and even a gas station)??

The best authentic pizza in the Philly area

Hello everyone: I wanted to hear your feedback as to what you felt was the best authentic pizza in the area. By authentic my requirements are:

1. Cooked in a wood burning or coal burning oven
2. Is done in a style of traditional Italian, Neapolitan or Sicilian Pizza
3. Doesn't have weird toppings on it (that's not authentic)

Here's what I came up with:

1. Tacconelli's-not totally authentic but possibly the best crust in the area
2. Pietro's in center city- coal fired, good crust, pizza has too much cheese though
3. Osteria-possibly the most authentic pizza in the area?

Please let me know your thoughts, I'm very curious to hear about Siclian. I've only had it from one place in south philly (can't remember the name) and while it was good I dont think it would have fallen into my top 5.

Look forward to hearing your thoughts...

OLD SCHOOL CHINESE (PuPu Platter) IN SAN DIEGO?

Hello everyone: I'm looking or the old school Chinese restaurants in SD. You know the ones with PuPu Platters, strong drinks, greasy food, etc.. I found two-one called Double Happiness in Del Mar and one called Mandarin House on 5th. Has anyone been to these or have other suggestions?

Bali Hai seems like an overpriced tourist trap to me, and I saw that fake polynesian place in the Gaslight today-no thank you.

I'm actually starting a website dedicated to old school Chinese restaurants so any help would be really appreciated.

Off Topic Question: I'm really into street art and I saw some great street art under the Cornado bay bridge. Can anyone tell me where I can find other street art in the city? I don't care about the neighborhood-I'm from Philadelphia which can look like a 3rd world country in some areas so I'm not phased by much. Thanks

Sicilian Food in Philly?

HI everyone: Does anyone know of any restaurants that specialize in Sicilian food? The only one I've found is called Trinacria in Center Square/Blue Bell. Never been there, has anyone else?

Thanks for your help

Want to know where the locals eat in San Diego-we're adventerous eaters

We are coming to San Diego for a week and I'm looking for interesting/authentic places to eat.

It's just me and my 11yo son, we tend to like good ethnic food, anything unusual and I figure there must be some good mexican style seafood places in SD? Please no tourist traps.

Any help would be appreciated and if you could suggest an area to stay in that would be great too.

Thanks

Stroudsburg and the Poconos?

I am taking my 11yo son to the poconos this weekend. We are staying in Stroudsburg and looking for some interesting places to eat. No fine dining, no chain restaurants etc.. Casual places, Italian, places with outdoor dining would be great.

If you know of any other culinary gems in the poconos we should check out please let me know!

Thanks for your help,

Philly's Best Korean?

I won' t repeat what has already been said but he's a significant factor to know about Korean BBQ in Philly. All restaurants use gas grills for the BBQ. Some may throw in a few pieces of charcoal and say it's charcoal but it's really not. The only (to my knowledge) Korean restaurant in the area that uses charcoal in their BBQ is Kims which is also the first Korean restaurant in Philly. i found it to be significantly better apparently all the other americans who go out of their way to go there agree.

BEST RETRO CHINESE IN PHILLY?

No Davids is gone and replaced by a Vietnamese place

BEST RETRO CHINESE IN PHILLY?

I guess I've been lucky that I've had authentic Chinese most of my life as I started going to Sang Kee as a kid. I recently realized that I've never had "retro" Chinese in
Philly-you know the poo poo platter/drink in tiki cups type?

I'd like to take my friend from NYC to some retro Chinese for New Years but not sure where to go? Poo Poo platter and the drinks in tiki cups are a must!

Thanks for your help,
Ryan

Looking to learn Mexican cooking-any ideas?

Hi-I've been looking around for a Mexican cooking class in the Philly area but haven't found one. I'd even have someone to my house or go to their house to learn.

Does anyone have any ideas on how/where to find a Mexican cooking class or teacher?

I live in Ardmore but am downtown all the time.

Thanks,

global supermarket in philly?

Just an FYI-there's Supremo markets in Philly as well, there is also a new Asian Market on 4th and Spring Garden that is much cleaner than the rest of the Asian supermarkets.

Ideas for a BBQ tour in the south-looking for suggestions

Hello everyone: I am looking to go on a little BBQ tour of the south this summer for about a week. Ideally I'd like to fly in somewhere, rent a car and wind up somewhere else. I'm attracted to the deep South for some reason so ideally I'd like to start in Mississippi.

I'm open to any thoughts/suggestions.

I also looked for organized BBQ tours but didnt find anything.

Thanks and I'll look forward to hearing from you,
Ryan acewex@gmail.com

get your deuce on

That place sucked big time as does that whole Florida-esque, out of place Liberties Walk thing

Pittsburgh-want good local food

I'm going to a conference in Pittsburgh this week and staying at the Sheraton Station Square. Refusing to eat any chain restaurant junk in station square I'm wondering what's close by. I'd like to know the places locals like (I'm assuming I'm not far from East Carson Ave).

Any help would be appreciated.

Most authentic japanese in Philly (not sushi!)

Hi-I recently discovered my love for japanese food. I'm wondering the most authentic place for Japanese in Philly? Please don't tell me-go to Sagami for Sushi, I know that. I'm looking for japanese, not moriomoto, not sagami.

Thanks for your help!

Authentic south philly italian experience in south jersey?

I live in Collingswood where there are several fine Italian restaurants. I'm looking for a red gravy type of place that is a step above the rest. Any suggestions?

A good bar in South Jersey near Collingswood?

Wow 70s kitch is my dream!! I'm so glad you told me about Steak 38. I've seen it and thought it looked straight out of the 70s on the outside. Hows the food there?

Cork and Kitchen is exactly what I try to stay away from-overpriced, trying to be the city but in the burbs. Know what I mean?
