Sinaloa in Bakersfield...

...don't eat here. The tacos are ground beef. The beans are truly lacklustre. The spanish rice was mediocre; how did they accomplish that? And the chips? They were absent. Bread instead! And my primary bellwether, the relleno? The batter was so excruciatingly thin as to be the slightest suggestion that there was to have been any; nearly absent. The iced tea, however, was copious and cold. The old neon sign was pretty good, though.

Scared of awful Burbank restaurants....

Good lord, KIKO'S! I get misty thinking about 'em. My father and I would INHALE the salsa & chips until our brows were moist. Their son had a place in Panorama City (Jojo's) that was almost as good. My old fave at Santoro's was the Italian coldcuts (easy on the oil and pickles, thanx), but a while back they added a 'natural turkey' to the menu. It has a subtle and intriguing seasoning.

Fresno's Growing Dining Scene (and Visalia)

In the interest of supporting non-chains: Triangle Drive-in on Belmont just west of 99. Clean, a trip back to 1963 (when built). A decent cheeseburger, good fries in recently-changed oil, the coffee was fair. The chap at the adjacent table enthused about their willingness to make his fave rootbeer with softserve blended in. I'll give THAT a try next time!

Breakfast in Turlock

I left Sacramento last Monday at 5 AM to beat the morning crunch at Stockton. By mid-AM I was ready for FOOD, so I 'began the search'. I found a refried chain location in Turlock, I don't remember the name, dang. It is at Walnut & Main, just west of SR 99. I had the Popeye omelette. The proper quantity of seasoned ground beef in egg done to perfection. (I loath eating egg dishes with any HINT of browning). It was topped (!) with whole spinach leaves. The prompt pleasant server was truthful that the home fries and hashbrowns are 'out of the box', the coffee was decent. One could do far worse for road food.
