The fat tuna salad sandwichs--with leaf lettuce from our garden--on soft white Mrs. Baird's bread w/Fritos and lemonade we kids stuffed ourselves on when we came home limp & starved from 2-3 hours in the neighborhood park swimming pool in Dallas in the 1940s.
My current drink of choice:
Schramsberg champagne
I really wish I could:
Make a peach cobbler like my grandmother's and Red Beans & Rice as smoky-creamy-delicious as Popeye's.
In Dallas: The Grape, Blue Goose, Taco Diner, the OLD Sonny Bryant's Barbecue (when Sonny was living). In Brunswick, Maine: Shere Punjab
My most tattered cookbooks:
For recipes, McCullough/Witt's wonderful "Classic American Foods Without Fuss", the 1961 Craig Claiborne NYTimes cookbook, Marion Cunningham's "Supper Book". For general reference, Joy of Cooking. And the old "Better Homes.." cookbook from the 50s-60s has some of the best basic recipes in existence.
