Vegetarian options at BBQ pits?

I may draw some ire. But I've been on both sides of your veggie/meat conundrum. Rudy's Country Store BBQ has some enjoyable veggie sides..new potatoes, potato salad, creamed corn is WICKED(beats NinI's...sorry Nini),cole slaw- and pickles, cheddar cheese segments(sorry,no better explanation)...grrrreat banana pudding, totally medium chocolate pudding. The loop 360 location has a nice backyard..esp for a gas station...it has grass, picnic tables, and a "water feature" that makes a nice sound. And,well, cold beer. I like the turkey and the chopped beef, husband likes turkey and brisket. A plus: its by the greenbelt and by the good mall.In closing, I apologize for saying white bread is good dipped in BBQ sauce.

While Mother's rebuilds... [Moved from Austin Board]

Keith Wahrer, one of the owners of the Daily Juice, knows that recipe...he cooked there for years...of course, the recipe demands QUITE a bit of division...it makes gallons....but maybe if you stop by the D J and buy a big bunch of juice,he'd give it to you. I love it,too-the ranchero, right? On the artichoke enchiladas and with the breakfast tacos and burritos, etc? Salivating now.

mr natural's 2 other non vegan versions are grrrreat too...but they close at 9pm and not open sundays,at all.....the vegan version is chocolate ...the other 2 are traditional and coconut,i believe. el chile's won a prize -but is distinctly horrible as well as unappetizing looking.

what's open late?-besides...

yes,i know about kerbey, magnoia and -shudder- star seeds...i even know about thai passion til 3am. hyde park and trudy's both serve til midnite...but where else? i probably wouldn't go as far north as campus...if even the river..so where does that leave - when a gal wakes up at 9:30ish and might want asian, indian or something beyond gingerbread pancakes and queso? i did several searches and got nothing-but somebody here will know.

Best Restaraunts in Austin

cafe josie (anything w the Ginger Tamarind sauce turns me inside out.)...finn and porter(i ...sorry...actually like the sushi as much as uchi..the nangoku is heaven...and they have cinnamon sugar donuts w a truffle melted inside!!! plus yummmmmmy steaks, and a bleu cheese bacon salad worthy of my last meal.) vespaio-just give me some creamy polenta with everything and an order to go,also. and uchi-the new peanut buttter semi freddo dessert w apple miso sorbet is a surprising delight, and i'm not a huge fan of p.b....also,uchi's "social hour"..happy hour, that is, has been so worth my trip lately..its not crowded and good things are on special..along w my favorite sake-the unfiltered one. hope you feel like i do!

Anyone Tried Nuevo Leon (Austin)?

my family has been dining at Nuevo East for so long we'd beg to go anywhere but Nuevo...I live sw so we tried nuevo circle c last week...service was Not Good, portions were smaller than eastside and higher priced, and the margaritas do not come in 3 sizes like east...but only in one big stupid looking goblet...like I'm at El Chico's,back in Wichita Falls again. tooooo bad.

Is Guerro's done for

the shrimp fajitas are loaded w tomatillo slices and mushrooms and pico that all smack of grill drippings-YOM! 2 people could probably share the order for one...delicious. all the other meats are dry....except,ironically... the soy chorizo, which is SO good...tell your vegans! service is spotty..esp from this one dude, who has been there so long he should be killer. but mostly, i am a sucker for the the strong mercifully UNsweet rocks margaritas...herradura silver and cointreau,y'all. order carefully...and stay away from the "beef" filling...unless you like scraps.

[AUS] Chicken-fried Steak in Austin

i cant speak for tony's...but i've had almost every other cfs listed below. unbelievably, Trudy's has killer CFS,good gravy, and sides w salad, too, for a low $7.95...fork tender and great breading-good cold out of the fridge, even! you may have to unscrew the top of your pepper to get enough on it all, but its a labor of love.
