Yes, it is true. Zod Arifai, chef/owner of Blu and Next Door, both in Montclair, is the owner/executive chef of Daryl in New Brunswick. Looking forward to having his memorable cuisine.

Where should we eat in the Raleigh area?

I noticed that many restaurants are closed on Sunday. I'll be there on Easter Sunday. Any suggestions for that day? Prefer to go someplace that doesn't have a set menu for the holiday.

Where should we eat in the Raleigh area?

Thank you. How far in advance would I need to make a reservation at the higher end restaurants?

Where should we eat in the Raleigh area?

We will be in the Raleigh, Cary, Chapel Hill area for 5 days. Where should we eat? Price not an issue nor is cuisine. Are there any underground restaurants in the area? Also, small mom/pop places would be of interest to us. Many thanks.

The Orange Squirrel, Bloomfield NJ

I agree with you Tom 150%. The Orange Squirrel is excellent and I listed the gnudi and Colorado lamb chops as one of the best dishes I had in 2009.

Moving to NJ - what town(s) have most interesting restaurants and food stores?

Montclair is restaurant heaven. Most restaurants are BYO.

Morristown, NJ : Place for luncheon

Copeland is excellent and will work with you on a menu.

Larison's Steak House in Chester, NJ

Richard Varga will be the executive chef at Larison's Steak House.

Belford Bistro (Belford NJ)

Everything was excellent. Thank you Tom for organizing this "field trip." How delicious it was to meet everyone. I also had the short ribs which melted in my mouth. And the spinach polenta was so scrumptious that the extra order was inhaled within seconds by everyone. Now I am not sure about the wines. I may have to taste them again to make a decision! ; )

Copeland in Morristown, NJ

I was at Copeland in the summer and the desserts were wonderful. We had toasted almond ice cream, Jersey peaches and cream; and a quark souffle (it’s a soft German cows milk cheese) with local strawberries and a glass of Moscato d’Asti. There is a sweet potato cake with caramelized bananas, and praline sauce on their fall tasting menu that sounds delicious also.

Bend, Oregon

Thank you so much for the information. Your blog is very informative. Can you recommend someplace for breakfast that has wi-fi? We eat a light breakfast so someplace where we can get coffee and a muffin are fine.

Bend, Oregon

Your link isn't working.

As a food writer I am always looking for the "awe" factor and "local cuisine." It can be a high end restaurant or a dive that I wouldn't know to go to unless someone told me about it. I expect to be in Bend for 1 week so I have plenty of time to eat. Many thanks for your recommendations. Rosie

Best Places to eat in Bend, OR?

Thank you so much for the recommendations. We do have a reservation at Merenda as I am a member of the James Beard Foundation. But we will be in Bend a week so we will have an opportunity to try many places.

Bend, Oregon

Any restaurant suggestions for Bend, Oregon? We like all types of cuisine and price is not a factor. Anything from a dive to an upscale restaurant is fine. Thank-you.

Has anyone taken any classes at the Viking cooking school before?

Fairfield location. Demo theatre.

Has anyone taken any classes at the Viking cooking school before?

We took a cooking class and can highly recommend this school.

Upon arrival cheese, roasted peppers, tomatoes, olives, crackers and soft drinks were offered. A big screen came to life over the stove and the chef began the class. Some of the following dishes we cooked, some were demonstrated, others were pre-made--ALL were eaten: prosciutto and parmesan gourgeres with Bellini cocktails; arugula and basil salad; jumbo lump crab cakes with chipotle tartar sauce; grilled veal chops with wild mushroom and roasted garlic pan sauce; espresso ice cream with double chocolate cherry cookies; and coffee. An Argentine chardonnay was poured—many times.

Some of the food was prepped before arrival and the instructor and assistant helped us through each step. There were no dishes to wash as the prep kitchen took care of this job.

BTW--The display kitchens are gorgeous.
