Calling All Hampton Roads Chowhounds!

Sukiyaki meat or sukiyaki the dish?
For the dish, I would recommend Kyushu (not sure if I am spelling it correctly) Its off Newtown rd.
For meat, they the local japanese markets hidden throughout the area. There is one at the corner or Aragona and VB blvd.

Eurasia cafe & wine bar: pretty good place. If you sit outside, you can buy a bottle of wine from the PJ baggins, which has a good wine selection, and open the bottle and have dinner serve to you. The food is good, but not awe inspiring, but not much does in this area.
Eat, an American Bistro: been there once with a friend, small cozy environment. food again is good and memorable. Had a rock fish \ wrapped in rice paper over a bed of saute spinach with thai curry sauce.
Both are definitely worthwhile to eat at.

Hampton Roads sushi quest

I've got three places that I go depending on what I am craving for.
Kyushu is a great place if I am looking for hot cooked food. It is great to know of a japanese dish and not see it on the menu and ask to see if the lady in charge of the cooked food can do it; and most of the time, its not a problem!!!!
Kanpai for good sushi with great atmosphere. Just a fun place to be, live jazz on Tuesdays, sake-bomb with the chef and servers, great people that go and enjoy the food.
Zushi for great sushi with the bistro twist. Japanese food with a twist. FInd very interesting combos such as tuna carpaccio, salmon with hot oil, cajun tuna tataki. One last thing about Zushi is the selection of desserts made by a dedicated french trained pastry chef.
Sushi Aka in suffolk is very much like Zushi. if my memory is correct, the head chef was at Zushi for a bit.
Keep this post going, I want to try more good sushi places recommended by everyone.

There are quite a few Vietnamese joint in the area. For true authentic vietnamese feel, definitely go to Pho 79 in VB. for a little better setting, Pho 78.
My favorite place is still Terrapin down towards the ocean front. Nice cozy atmosphere with great food and service.

Hampton Roads Dives and Deals

Princess Anne County Grill, in the VB Farmer's Market. Good homemade food, good specials, and friendly staff.
Kyushu, On Newton Rd, between Virginia Beach BLVD and 264. Everything is great there

I concur. Great place. Avoid the chicken katsu. Its thin therefore, kind of dry.

Hampton Roads, VA: Where should we eat next?

Has anyone tried Silver Palate off either Great Neck or First Colonial? I've heard pretty good things about it, but a bit hesitant to try it. Looking for some reviews before I go.

There is a new hawaiian place on Princess Anne Rd between North Hampton and Witchduck. Been there a few times. The chicken katsu is kinda thin, so not very juicy, the bbq chicken is marinated to Hawaiian teriyaki style. But the best thing is they have good macaroni salad, and that makes the whole meal. Other things on the menu include loco moco, kalbi, spam, and some other interesting stuff. Not too bad.
At least something like that is in this area now.

Boba/Bubble Tea in Norfolk, Va

It's still there. I think pho 78 also has it. (holland rd)

Hampton Roads, VA: Where should we eat next?

A small taco place opened up on Independence in VB called Diego Taco Shop. If you like southern california style taco joints (24 hrs or taco trucks type of stuff), this place is as close as you are going to find. too bad its not open late like those on the west coast.

Is there any hawaiian plate meals here in this area? I've been craving for some good macaroni salad with some chicken cutlet and bbq short ribs.
Oh, for decent Korean, try Norfolk Garden off Military hwy around the military circle area. They actually have grills you can cook your own meat.

The baja style taqueria place you are referring to is prob Baja Fresh. It is a chain out on the West Coast, but so far, it the only place that serves salsa verde and salsa roja. Heard good things about taqueria san jose, haven't tried it yet though.

When you say ramen, are you talking about the real japanese ramen? pork, miso or soy flavor?
