Hard Hat X

went for lunch on Saturday. Really nice renovated interior, really upscale. We thought we could get the lunch specials but after ordering (and being served the miso soup) were told we had to pay full price. Example: beef bulgogi lunch price $12-13, dinner price $18. Also, there was a buy one roll get the other roll free coupon but also told later that it did not apply on Saturdays. So that part kind of sucked. If you want to go for lunch go M-F!

Food was good, fish was fresh for my sushi, I just think the prices are pretty steep and my favorite Midori is right across the road with excellent food already (for less cost)

Real Store-bought French Bread

Parmer/McNeil has the rolls and baguettes. Got some two weeks ago and saw them again this past weekend. They're right by the tortillas. Oh and the bread is indeed delicious--thanks for the rec from the original poster!

Where did you get this information from? I saw your post, freaked out and called them and they said they're not closing. They just have new hours 7am-7pm on weekdays and 7am to 8pm on Saturdays.

Healthy frozen yogurt?

Tomunchi (on Parmer) is pretty darn awesome. I'm not sure about healthwise but I love their tart flavored yogurt with the fresh fruit toppings they offer (like mangoes, blueberries, kiwis, etc) They also have lychee jelly as one of their toppings as well as mochi.

Diff flavors of the soft serve self serve yogurt include the usual like strawberry, chocolate, etc and then there are several fun ones like lychee, red bean, passion fruit, mango, english toffee, cheesecake, etc. I believe they rotate flavors in and out. There is also a more traditional toppings bar with sprinkles, nuts, crumbled cookies...

What I love best about them is that it's self serve so you get as much or as little as you want in your cup and then pay by the ounce.

I'm there at least once or twice a week to try to keep them in business!

I'm interested to hear more about their Saturday morning menu! How does it differ? Do they offer dim sum or breakfast foods?

That Popcorn Place

I'm not sure how to explain the difference b/t toffee and caramel--I might just be biased b/c I have a really good home recipe of caramel popcorn. The toffee has a great flavor though and is totally addictive! You'll have to try both and let us know what you think! :o)

Dill pickle is pretty awesome! We get that as well as ranch, bbq and loaded potato for the savory popcorn. I tried the mixed fruit (tuttifruitti?) and found one that I absolutely love--LEMON. It tastes just like froot loops! So that along with the toffee (not to be mistaken with caramel) are my faves.

The owners are so nice and generous. I really hope they stick around!

The food came in these round aluminum take out containers with the clear lids on top. We had it for dinner two nights in a row. I think they'd definitely keep for a day or two and if you're extra worried you could always transfer them to more air tight containers.

We took a chance and ordered from their "pre order" menu yesterday for a dinner today. It was pretty simple--we looked at the menu online and liked what today's dishes were and put in an order. The person on the phone took down our phone number and name and told us that pickup began at 5:30pm and to bring $15 in cash. We went down today and the order was sitting there ready for us. We paid and went home to try the dishes! We had baby bok choy, chicken with cashew nuts and sweet and sour pork. They gave us plenty of rice and the baby bok choy was excellent with a lot of garlic. The chunks of chicken were ok, in an oyster sauce with vegetables and cashews sprinkled on top. The sweet and sour pork chops were so good--bones included so you kind of gnaw around them :o). A bit fatty but really tasty. We had a pretty good experience, it's a great price, very convenient and it gets us out of our rut and trying other dishes. We'll definitely be doing this at least once a week!

Our favorites at Asia Market are:

Fried fish with sweet and sour sauce (nice golden fried fish slices, the sauce is always great and they usually put an assortment of vegetables in it)
Pork with dried bean curd (heavy on the garlic, nice strips of pork and beancurd)
Stir fried green beans (these are excellent--they have lots of onion and a black preserved vegetable? that is salty)
Baby bok choy (a nice fresh vegetable dish)

We've also tried the Singapore noodles and the Taiwanese noodles and prefer the later. The Singapore ones were really spicy and oddly the Taiwanese version reminds me of what we get in Singapore instead.

The dumplings were pretty good but might be a bit doughy for some.

We've tried the Mango Jumbo shrimp and were disappointed. It was more of a spicy chilli sauce and that didn't go well with the mango.

I saw the General Tso's chicken dish too and am curious to try it out. We also want to try the crispy fish but every time they tell us it's not available!

I'm interested to hear about the preordered dinners too.
