FOODIE'S 30th Birthday Dinner Suggestions, PLEASE!

Rivera is snobby and service sucks

You would have a hard time finding _________in Los Angeles...

that suck-
don't go to BPO-
Food is unedible and prices outrageous

Lobster Roll???

don't bother with blue plate oysterette-
terrible food and way over-priced

Guilty Pleasures - Foods you shouldn't eat, but eat them anyways

Blue Plate Oysterette has terrible food and should be half the price-
This is basically a fast food greasy dive trying to trick tourist inot thinking it is serving "GOOD" food-I had the lobster roll $20.oo basically a small taseless sandwich-the oysters -not cleaned well and crunchy-the fried clams-good but wortht $18.00-
This place is dirty and makes me think of a coney island shack-BUT WITH HIGH PRICES
Worst meal I have ever had-felt ripped off by the poor quality-
I sat at the counter and watched them prepare the food-NOT A GOOD IDEA-
Cleanliness is not happening-Nuff said-

Describe your ideal coffee house...

Seems like "on a Date" is a priority to You? Ok Sure

Describe your ideal coffee house...

I love the Conservatory near Sony Pictures for Coffee
They are one of the better coffee houses-big sacks o bean laying around-a few tables and a patio-kinda small-pull a great capp
and I like the Venice Groundwork on Rose Ave for a quick drip-
Inteligesia on Abbot Kinney is overpriced and too trendy -plus it takes too long-
And is sterile -Not very inviting

Describe your ideal coffee house...

I would like a quiet and comfy place-with a fire place in the corner-shabby chic-
with wifi-books and odds and ends-

Old wood chairs and desks-a few couches and lamp lighing
Like visiting someones cozy home-

Great coffee and french pastry-great teas-at reasonable prices
maybe have a few specialty cheeses and salami's
and some yummy brown bread and jam-
A place to sit quietly in thought and sip a great cup a joe-inside or outside in the sun

Nothing loud or busy-
Solitude in a big city-

AND A Back Patio-with plants and an fountain-little hidden places to sit and read-
there is nothing in LA with a fantastic patio-Is there?

Dog Friendly
A NO Cell Phone talking policy-
One area for computer plug -ins and talking maybe 10 spots max
One area for smokers-Nothing like a smoke and strong cup-

I Don't have an ideal one here in LA but please start one-

No Thanks--Is that a sea bass on your plate?

REVISE-My MISTAKE

I have revised my scathing review-
After I talked to the fish monger he did said that indeed
there is a mediterrean sea bass which is like a trout-thin white flakey fish-
I was familiar only with the chilian sea bass -thick and white solid type-
SO perhaps that is what they were serving at Via Veneto-
But I still did not like the waiter ;(

-----
Via Veneto
3009 Main St, Santa Monica, CA 90405

No Thanks--Is that a sea bass on your plate?

I can't believe this place is still in business-
(Via Veneto on Main Street in Venice/Santa Monica))

I had dined here about 10 years ago and remember it being very nice with excellent service and food-
Wow has it changed-
The food just average
the prices too high
and the service poor-

Sorry-- the cute interior design and cozy seating is sweet ....on a slow day-
BUT the rest is not up to par-
In this town I would think they would have a killer menu- and food to match-
creating a delicious old world italian vibe-

Please get it together-
SO much to improve on-

Nice dinner in Santa Monica

NO Penthouse Not Good-
Overpriced and filled with loud annoying people-
Food lame and drinks overpriced

Nice dinner in Santa Monica

Yuck--- Stay away from the Penthouse-
The Food is horrible and the people real snobs-
The only thing worth going for is to see the view of the ocean-
Have a drink at the bar and move on-

Dinner near LAX/Westside with picky teen from out of state?

There In and Out Burger right near the airport :)
there is also Alejo's on Lincoln-good food -cheap-fun-family

Best Fish and Chips?

Kings Head is HORRIBLE-
greasy and the fish not fresh-

Best Fish and Chips?

Do NOT go to KIngs Head-the world's worse food on the planet-
beer ok

B-Day Bar/Lounge for 40-Fun and Not Stuffy

Looking for fun place to hold birthday party-(40 year old)
A place we can take-over with 40 people-

All the places I called have BIG minimuns-and want you to rent parking valets and security
guards-the whole renting a special venue in this economy is ridiculous-
They charge you for every little thing-
Im now looking for a mom and pop place or nice restaurant that wants to
have 40 eating and drinking customers-

The party would be on a Weds night it can be anywhere from Downtown to Santa Monica-
Any hidden gems?
We will be buying drinks and food-around $1000 worth of booze and food-

Big 50 Birthday Venue and Food HELP

Big 50 Birthday Venue and Food HELP

I'm having a Big 50th Bday party in December and I'm looking for a space/place to rent-
I'm thinking of renting a place-a loft Downtown or in Venice-or an art gallery-
Someplace unique where we can hire our caterers and music-
The restaurants seem too stuffy and overpriced-for every additional napkin ;)

Budget 1k
Details-40-60 people (older artsytypes and a few kids)
Drinks and Food (not sit down)
8PM-1AM on a Weds Night
Anywhere from Venice to Downtown LA (No Valley or OC)

My ideal would be a Cool Open Art Space-food and dancing maybe an open bar-
I want this to be a fun evening for all-I can buy the booze and hire staff-

Any ideas?
Please help

Private Room w/ Fun Atmosphere

Thanks for the details-I too was curious of what you found out there-
I'm planning a BIG 50 Party for about 40-50 people-hippy-arty, 35-65 years old, a few kids, drinkers, smokers .
My budget would be $1,000
I have had great birthday parties before-The Viceroy Cocktail Cabanas, Crazy Pods Standard Downtown Rooftop, Casa del Mar Cozy Bar, Blue Velvet Downtown Loft, In East Pasadena at Frank and Deans Piano Bar, Cabanas at Avalon Mid-Century-
BUT since this is a BIG birthday-and everyone is asking me ?
-I thought I might "jazz it up" with an open bar or a band, or clown or stripper or something fun for all ! A Cool Place , something with parking and a bit laid back.
I'm now in research phase.
Looking into Hotel Spaces, Restaurants, Lofts, My Cousins Band, Public Beaches, Caterers, The Kogi Truck, Heat Lamps, Tables and Chairs, Linens, Candles, Music -Oi !

Maybe I will just order pizza
............... Or just leave town.........

not so into blue plate oysterette

Went to Santa Monica Seafood-on Wilshire at the new location-
it now has a cafe-
Very disappointing-I like the old place better and the cafe food stinks.
The chowder was just so-so- as well as over-priced. There was bad service.
and the ambience lame-
Just go to the fish counter grab some fish and take it home- like I was planning on doing-

Best Fish and Chips?

I did not like the fish n chips at the Kings Head in Santa Moinca
They were over-batered and the oil seemed old-(not fresh)-
They were Yucky and overpriced !
It is really too bad -I had a real hankering for some GOOD Fish N Chips-
This place was a real disappointment-

New restaurants in West LA?

Huckleberry-WAY OVERPRICED
LOUD
RUDE
Perfect for the Montana Crowd-
Yeah We cool we rich
BARF

Scared of awful Burbank restaurants....

The Place for Steaks is NOT the place for Good Steaks!
This place is really bad.
They have lots of rules.
Kinda weird? Food Bad and the prices Way too High-
Why are they still in Business?

Good outdoor seating around Pasadena/Downtown?

Yuck! Il Fornaio is terrible-
Don't waste your money on the crappy over-priced food-

Il Fornarella(SP?) in Pasadena - any good?

Il Fornaio in Pasadena in Old Town is Terrible-
Just have a drink on the patio and forget the food-

Il Fornaio Pasadena (long)

This place is horrible-
The minestrone soup tasted like it came out of a can-
The seafood appetizers smelled fishy and was made with low grade shrimp and calamari-
Oh and the service just bad-
We had to ask our snooty waiter for everything-
Another fork? more bread? where is the glass of wine we ordered 10 minutes ago?

In these lean times how can a restaurant have such crappy service, bad food and charge too much-
This place needs to close down-
Maybe the tourists keep t in business-

Piccolo in Venice recommendations?

Visited Piccolo finally after many a years as a Venice Local wondering if the place was all that?

Unfortunately I was very disappointed-
The service slow and not very friendly-
They had 6 guys roaming around or shall I say Hovering-but the service still was lame-
The nice spanish bus boy was the only guy working-

The food seemed overpriced for what you get-and how long you have to wait to get it-
We filled up on 3 baskets of bread-cuz we were so hungry from waiting so long-
Do they think the long wait makes the customers think the food is is special?
I had the Lamb Shank which was nice and moist-just so so-
The Pasta again just ok-
and the wine was suppose to cost $49 a bottle and somehow ended up on the bill as $59

Anyway the place needs to get a clue-
Treat customers special-
Have better, nicer and faster service-

I shall not return-

My visit to the Park, in Echo Park...

Visited the Park last week and was not bolled over-
It was fine-a bit cold inside on a rainy night-When I was wanting the place to warm up-It is not the most cozy room for dining-
But
The brisket average
The food does need to be pipping HOT !
The service friendly enough

It is a cute new addition to this area.

Hermosa Beach Rehearsal Dinner Recommendations?

What about Chez Melange in Hollywood Riviera-
or Rive Gauche near by-
Also Admiral Risty in Palos Verdes is very special with a great view of the ocean-
