LA Chow in SF -- Need Advice
A16 and Canteen!!!
buuut go to foreign cinema on sunday morning for brunch! It's not too hard to get reservations, and they make incredible house made pop tarts, amazing! That way you can try all 3, they are all essential san francisco favorites.
NY Foodie on Business in San Fran
Bix is fabulous, a true san francisco experience and a guaranteed crowd pleaser. Supper-club esque, delicious american fare, classic bar scene, amazing cocktails. Try it.
What to eat at AOC?
Any thing from their wood fired oven is incredible, and the cheese menu, oh la la.
Blue Bottle Worthy Coffee? Best In LA?
I'm desperately searching for a coffee that is as good as my San Francisco Blue Bottle - Does anyone know of a place that's similar? I am searching for the best Coffe LA has to offer, and I'm willing to drive to it...I'm talking far...if it's good..
Thanks
Italian in San Francisco on Sunday evening?
A16 is amazing, don't ever miss an oppurtunity to eat there. The squid ink tonarelli, the cured meats, and the pizzas, and it's cheaper than delfina. If you want more upscale though, i LOVE perbacco. But at A16 you can sit back with a glass of wine and watch the world roll by. Jeans are appropriate, but so is that snazzy dress you've probably been waiting to bust out :)
How is Taylor's Refresher, REALLY?
It's actually really good, and if you don't feel like a burger burger, the ahi tuna burger is sooo good, DONT FORGET A MILKSHAKE!!! (the best part) enjoy :)
North Beach Hot Spots
After a long night of dining in North Beach I love to unwind at Vesuvio's bar. It's not packed full of all those wannabe hipsters, it's just a mellow cool place across the street from city lights, where all the real, true beat poets used to hang out. it's amazing, check it out.
Pinkberry in the Bay Area?
I just moved back to the bay area from LA, and I am having terrible withdrawals from pinkberry, does anyone know of anything even remotely similar here up north? I'd REALLY appreciate it.
Larkspur for 2 more nights...need some more recs
Picco and Pizzeria Picco are both delicious. The pizzeria is more casual and offers really great thin crust pizza and organic soft serve ice cream (try the olive oil and sea salt soft serve, it's good i promise!). Picco Restaurant is of a more fine dining place, it's sensational. The food is pretty much all organic, and it's a share plates concept. The portions are actually much larger than traditional share plates places, and it's great for groups. Definitely check those two out while you're in larkspur.
3 nights with two 18 year olds
In Tiburon, you should take them to Sam's anchor cafe on saturday or sunday for lunch. It's really great, and if you can get a table outside it's rigth on the water and is a really fun scene. Also, Guaymas is a good mexican place on the water in tiburon.
San Francisco by my lonesome...
Don't worry about it Lisa, San Francisco is no stranger to the communal table. Many of the best restaurants in the city have counters/tables dedicated to communal dining. Check out the communal table at Terzo on union and steiner, at Nopa, and Town Hall along with perbacco and salt house, all great choices. But all the best restaurants in the city have dining full service at the bar too, and you always meet great people. Boulevard has great bar service, and lounge at Coi gives you a chance to try out the ultra fancy fare for a good price, and it's usually pretty bustling. Best of luck! enjoy San Fran!
Need opionions on Dolce on Melrose..
Although Dolce may be more about the scene that it is about the food, if you're itching to try it, get in there on a Monday. It's a little known secret that on mondays the entire menu (excluding drinks) is half price! It's a good way to soak in the incredible scene. Try the grilled cheese pizza or the eggplant parmessan, those are certainly the most stand out dishes. But it's not a place you'd go to the food, at least not since the original chef left. But, he did open his own place which is also worth trying, all' angelo, it's great italian food.
Great Brunch in LA
My mom is coming Down from San Francisco for the weekend and we're hoping to go out for a great brunch tomorrow morning, somewhere in LA. Any last minute suggestions?
Spanish Style Tapas in LA
It's not necessarily spanish style, but if you're into the small/share plates trend, AOC on third is amazing. It's supremely delicious and it's in a great setting.
MOTHER'S DAY BRUNCH - SF OR NAPA VALLEY
Foreign Cinema has the BEST brunch in the city. They make their own pop tarts in flavors like plum and fig, and they have the most delicious French toast I've ever tasted in my life. Not to mention the obvious plus of an incredible atmosphere with beauty al fresco dining! I would certainly recommend it.
SF Restaurants for Baby Boomer Visitors
Bix is the perfect place to take your parents. It's a classy supper club just off montgomery on Gold Street. It serves classic upscale American food with a kind of organic twist. The short ribs are amazing, as are the delectable potato pillows. Not only is the food delicious, the atmosphere is elegant. There is a live jazz band that plays all the classics. If they liked jardiniere, they'll like Bix.
