In-Home Sushi Chef for party of 15-20?
Has anyone had a good experience with a local in-home sushi chef for a party? Would love some insights on this! Thanks!
Family-Style dining in the North End? (Not Magianos)??
Well...we certainly would give up the North End experience for better food! Thanks!
I've got family coming into town for an event on Sunday...we thought italian would be a fun, less expensive dining option Saturday night leading up to a more formal thing on Sunday.
Family-Style dining in the North End? (Not Magianos)??
Are there any family-style dining options in the North End you'd suggest?
Or even yummy places that offer the option for family-style??
Anything open in Back Bay for family-friendly New Years lunch or early dinner?
I know it's hit or miss for open establishments on NYD, but it's so nice out and we're wanting to get out of the house for some good eats to make up for having to stay in last night! Been wanting to try Towne...think it's open for lunch or early dinner?? Open to anything...
Top of the Hub for Brunch?
We're entertaining out-of-town guests on New Years Day and thought it might be nice. But I was worried about the limitaions of an expensive prixe fixe. Was thinking Sel de la Terre might be a good option as well.
Top of the Hub for Brunch?
Anyone been to Top of the Hub for bunch? Is the prix fix menu worth the price? I've not been there in a cople of years for dinner, but have had pretty good dining experiences overall.
King Fung--Chinatown?
I know KIng Fung has been well-reviewed on this board and I've been wanting to give it a try...but i've got a party of 6....should I wait and go with just one other DC? Also, do they serve alcohol or is it BYOB?
Any other Chinatown recs for a party of 6 on Saturday night?? I've heard good things about Peach Farm, but haven't researched it yet.
Birthday Dinner for 6-8 in Cambridge
Several past posts have prompted me to get better about exploring what Cambridge has to offer....so, any thoughts on a place that can acommodate a semi-large party with yummy food at mid-range prices. Think intersting food/ingredients at less than fine dining prices. Reasonable wine menu is a bonus too.
Anyone tried Kingston Station yet?
Next to the Downtown JJ Foleys...it used to be Peking Toms (yuck!). I'm curious and hope it's better than its predecessor!
Can't get in to Union or Pops tonight...
Any suggestions on a good back-up? Was so bummed because the monk fish on Union's September prefixe is AMAZING!
Wanted to head to Beehive after din for a bit too. How's the line situation been there? Given the rain, not really inot waiting outside.
Rocca "No"
Agreed. Needs MUCH work, or it's never gonna make it. The food was barely so-so.
Verdad: Disapointing (long)
I went on Friday---no Sox game. It was not crowed, however it took forwever to get served. The guac was very good, although, I do agree that it could have used a bit of heat and maybe some salt. My friend and I agreed the chips were quite good and a nice change from the ordinary. We then ordered a few tacos. And waited and waited, only to be brought just one of the fish tacos we ordered...the manager broght it over and said it was the last one and "who wanted it." Very strange. Even worse is that it tasted like the last one...VERY fishy, so much that it was ineatable and we sent it back. The chicken tacos were very good as were the shrimp. We decided to order churros. 30 minutes later...no joke...they arrived at the table. Though, they were tasty. Overall, I wanted to like this place more. The service and kitchen need to get it together. Also, the outdoor area needs sprucing up.
South Boston wandering
Well, you certainly made the rounds! As for the Fish Pier...their chicken & chips are fantastic! Not seafood, I know, but so good especially when hung-over. They deliver too. I also like their fried scallop roll or plate...fresh and fried golden brown.
Java House: good coffee...and they get you in and out fast. Cranberry Cafe (near Terries Place) takes FOREVER, but they do have a nice chicken salad with tarrgon on homemade bread.
Sweet Tooth: what is up with the under-cooked cookies??? I think it's strange.
I was under-whelmed by Potbellies...but I was there during their first week or two. I had the baked haddock which was mushy and not at all good.
On that note...I eat the baked haddock at the Summer Street Grill (in the Boston Athletic Club in Southie) at least 3 times a month. It is cheap, good portion of firm, flakey fish...not too much crumb topping, the vegetables are steamed to perfection and the mashed potatoes are very good too (although, once they were a bit salty). Sometimes I ask them to add capers...they oblige with no problems. I'm sure they get a lot of special requests given it is in a fitness center! Overall, the food here is very good.
The Junction and Shenanigans both have good food for bars. I happily eat at both when out in the neighborhood.
Chicken Fried Steak in Boston??
Thanks for the suggestions! Someone in my office just suggested Cracker Barrel too...I'll give it a go next time I hit the outlets! I think my grandparents stop their during their drive to and from Florida...so it must at least be reliable and affordable ;)
Chicken Fried Steak in Boston??
I shamefully admit my occasional cravings for this dish, but have NEVER seen it on a menu in Boston. Anyone know where I can go for a fix??
