Toronto CH's visiting Baltimore for a weekend
Hi all,
3 couples will be travelling to Baltimore on the July 27th weekend to watch Liverpool play Tottenham and we are looking to pair down the must do restaurant list a bit. We'll be staying in the E. Fayette/Jones Falls Pkwy area and would prefer them to be walking distance or a short cab ride away. We're looking for dinner Friday & Saturday and breakfast/brunch on Saturday/Sunday. Nothing fancy but good beer and wine are a must for dinner and good coffee (and maybe mamosas) for breakfast. I haven't seen to many breakfast spots listed hear so we may need some extra help with these.
Here's a few that we have on a short list so far but I'd love to hear other ideas

Thanks for your help!
Brampton on a Saturday Night...Where to Eat?
Well, I guess it depends on what you are looking for as selection is a bit iffy. Brampton has a bunch of good to very good Italian restaurants.
Downtown: Fanzorelli's, Trios & Vesuvios all offer good food and decent atmosphere. La Capannina is there as well but I've found it's dropped off a bit.
Osso Buco at Bovaird & 10 also has great Italian
Magnums bar/pub at McMurchy & Nelson has great food, varied menu & live music
Can't recommend anywhere for a good steak. The Keg is about it.
Pho Peter at Kennedy & Church for good to great Vietnamese
Looking for a lunch spot near the East York Curling Club (Cosburn & Woodbine)
We're going to be at the East York Curling Club on Saturday and are looking for a decent pub/restaurant close by for lunch. Must be licensed and have a decent selection on tap as well as good food (wings, burgers etc.).
Thanks for your help.
Giant Toblerones....that time of year again
I saw an entire display of them last night at Fortinos in Brampton (Hwy 10 & Bovaird)
British food store?
I just picked up some British chocolates for stocking stuffers at The Scottish Store on the East side of Leslie just south of the 401. Loads of British foods plus everything else Scottish.
Lunch in Brampton
There is not much in the "nice" line of restaurants in that area but here are a few suggestions.
The renovated City Centre at Dixie and Queen has a number of decent chains, Pickle Barrel, Moxies, Spring Rolls, etc..
Longhorns in the 410 & Queen plaza might be open for lunch, not my thing but it may do the trick. I think there is a Swiss Chalet in there as well.
Pho Peter on Kennedy just north of Queen has great Vietnamese
Frigate & Firkin right at the 410 & Queen as surprisingly good pub food
Burrito Boys just west of Kennedy on Queen right beside the Beer Store (not my favorite but people love them)
Oceans grocery store in the 410 & Queen plaza has a decent hot table for asian
Kelsey's and Wong's chinese buffet are in the plaza on the west side of 410 & Queen

Good Asian in the Don Mills/Eglinton area
Hi Chowhounders,
My work has recently relocated to the Don Mills (DVP) and Eglinton area and I'm looking for some good Asian lunch options. Good noodle, rice and pho dishes as well as any Bahn Mi recs close by would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Where can I find a Banh Mi in the Don Mills/Eglinton area
Hi Chowhounds,
My company has recently moved to the Don Mills/Eglinton area and I'm not too familiar with what is up this way and I'm looking for a decent Banh Mi (among other good lunch options). Can someone let me know if there is a place near by.
Thanks!
Looking for a good lunch spot (wings & beers) around Yonge & Dundas
Hi All,
I'm meeting a colleague for lunch in the Yonge & Dundas area and am looking for a good spot for wings & beer or just good food in general. Nothing elaborate.
Your help is appreciated. Thanks
Looking for good source of stewing lamb (frozen is OK too) Brampton Caledon Orangeville
Try Teggart Farms on Steeles just west of Winston Churchill, they are a full service butcher and carry lots of lamb (both fresh and frozen)
Where to get the best Frozen or Fresh Chicken Wings?
Just an update, Oceans has their wings on for only $1.88/lb from Feb. 21- 24th. From experience these are probably full wings that you will have to split and remove the tips but they are sold in trays of about 2 to 2-1/2 pounds. Great deal!
Where to get the best Frozen or Fresh Chicken Wings?
This is a bit late and not in your area but I thought I'd throw it out there for general knowledge. I live in Brampton and buy fresh wings from Oceans (an Asian store). I'd classify them medium in size and they have them on sale on a fairly regular basis for $1.99/lb. Just marinated and bbq'd a bunch of these the other week, quality is generally very good. Also, the Maple Lodge Farms factory store is a good bet in the West end (Winston Churchill & Derry). You can buy full wings, split wings, medium or large size and either fresh or frozen. The pricing is better than regular grocery store pricing and they have the occasional sale. Quality is excellent as they are right from the factory (plus they are Canadian). The only down side is that you have to buy in bulk sizes (10+ pounds) but I just separate them into manageable packs and freeze them.
Cottage cheese
IMHO I find that PC's Blue Label 1% cottage cheese is much dryer and tastier than any of the regular store bought brands. It's still in liquid, just not nearly as much.
Burrito Boyz in Brampton
This might be too late for you but I've been there a few times with friends who like it. It's pretty much the same as the Toronto locations so if you like them, you'll enjoy the Brampton location. I've never been much of a BB fan as I feel their meats used in the burritos are mostly just mush will little actual meat flavour.
Something Unique in Niagara Falls Canada
You could also try AG which is in the Sterling Inn & Spa right in downtown Niagara Falls. My SO and I spent the weekend there about a month ago and the food is incredible. They use as many local ingredients as possible and they also offer a food flight menu and a wine flight menu (or both). Very intimate but still casual and a varied menu.
Office Christmas Party Venue Ideas Needed in Toronto!
Academy of Spherical Arts. My SO's company has had their Christmas party there for the last few years and will again this year. Food is very good and they will work with you to create a menu that suits your group. Loads of drink options as they have a beer menu and stock literally hundreds of different liquors plus they have pool tables to boot.

Saturday Brunch in Brampton or Mississauga
Just as FYI Aggie Martin is gone, big For Sale/Lease sign in the window. The food was great but the owner was a bit of a nutbar and I think that played a lot into this place going under. We live in downtown Brampton and are seriously hoping for some kind of restaurant turn around. We really need a decent pub and a steak house. Have to agree with Kagemusha, from what I've heard, most of the decent spaces for restaurants are being well over priced. Heard that the asking rent for the old O'Malley's place was higher than downtown TO. Crazy. Hope the Thai place can survive but that spot is a black hole for restaurants. Saw a new place going into the spot beside the liquor store on Nelson as well. I'll post reviews if I give either a try.

Sushi in mississauga or brampton Any suggestions
Sushi House in Brampton at HWY 10 and Church St has never disappointed. Sushi is always fresh, service is great and the prices are fairly reasonable for sushi.
Tourtiere
It's a bit out of the way for you, but I just bought one at the Cheese Boutique in Etobicoke on Sunday. They had full size and single serving tourtieres and other various meat pies (SO bought a single serving chicken pot pie). Haven't tried them yet, but will keep you posted.

South of Temperance
We did see plenty of mixed drinks, scotch (presumed), Caesars etc. being served, just didn't have any ourselves.
South of Temperance
A group of 6 of us were in there last Friday afternoon around 3 for cocktails, 3 of the women shared a couple of pitchers of sangria (red) that they said was outstanding, the rest of us had pints. Odd though that on a Friday afternoon they ran out of Creemore. They had Sapporo, Heineken, Creemore and a few regular brands on tap as well as a few specialty import beers in the bottle that they were pushing at the patio bars. Be prepared to pay Bay Street prices, $7.75 for a pint of Sapporo. Great location and patio.
Date night suggestions.
Thanks for the boatload of suggestions. I'll work my way some of the reviews to narrow it down.
Should have mentioned, we work in Toronto during the day and would be going out after work for dinner.
Cheers
Date night suggestions.
Hi Hounds,
My wife and I have decided to re-start going on date nights. Once every couple of weeks we'd like to go out and try a new (or favorite) place in downtown TO and I'm looking for suggestions.
Background: We live in Brampton and take the GO train in so within a 20 minute walk to Union or along one of the downtown streetcar/subway lines would be great. Preferably no Indian (we live in Brampton) or Chinese but are good with pretty much anything else. We're good with a lively atmosphere, live music etc. as long as we can hear each other (these are fun nights out so no candle lit dark coves please). Food must be good in quality and quantity, no dainty dishes. Looking to keep things under $200 with drinks, bottle of wine and the meals.
Places we like or I have on my list to try:
Rodney's
Black Hoof
Weezie's
Biff''s
Starfish
Chiado
Thanks for the help, looking forward to the suggestions.

Where to get Raclette Cheese
We've always had luck finding Raclette at Metro and Sobeys.
The "What's good in Peel" thread.. (BRAMPTON/MISSISSAUGA Only please) :^)
In Brampton, for sushi try the Sushi House at Main & Church, we've been several times and are always impressed.
For Vietnamese, try Pho Peter at Kennedy & Church, good Pho but our favorite is their version of Pat Thai, really spicy, big portion and great taste.
For a nicer meal, I agree with the earlier post of La Capanina (sp?) on George st. It's one of those places that we kind of forget about but always love the food and service when we go.

Brampton chow
A group of 6 of us went to dinner at Aggie Martin last Friday ad it was one of the best meals I've had in Brampton. This place used to be a cafe and clothing store until Restaurant Makeover came in and turned it into a french restaurant. Out of our group we had chateau briand, lamb chops and a stuffed chicken as well as escargot and a special salad for appies. Lamb chops were excellent and everyone raved about there meals. Nothing overly pricey, chops were $29 and it was a good portion. Wine selection was very good as well. The only con was that the mixed drinks were $8 each which thought was a bit high for a Brampton restaurant but it's a minor quibble.
Highly recommend for anyone in the area.
Need lunch reccs around Yonge & York Mills
Hi Chowhounds,
I'm looking for a lunch spot around Yonge & York Mills. Nothing fancy, but a place to get a good burger, wings or a sandwich along with a beer. Tried the Miller but $17 for a mediocre burger and fries is a bit much.
Looking forward to your suggestions.
Chinese/Asian Caterer - Brampton Area
Hi Chowhounds,
I'm looking for a Chinese/Asian food caterer for an event in Brampton. We will be hosting an dinner for about 120 people and would like to serve authentic style (opposed to Canadianized) Chinese/Asian cuisine. Chinese/Japanese/Thai/Vietnamese etc. would all fit the bill. Can anyone help me out with some suggestions or recommendations?
Thanks for the help.
