Bluegrass Tavern - Anyone been Lately?

Hey all,

Looking at heading to Bluegrass for dinner after a year or so on Friday night. How is the food these days? Menu looks good as ever.

Appreciate any commentary.

Thanks!

Meat sandwiches for lunch in downtown Charleston?

The Luck #1 Sub is the sandwich I mentioned as Bahn Mi - it's delicious. The Duck Confit Club is a commitment but a very good one.

Meat sandwiches for lunch in downtown Charleston?

Tattooed Moose is great for sandwiches too - Pork Belly Bahn Mi, Duck Confit club and low country Cuban are all delicious. Cool, funky place too and the front patio would be perfect at this time of year.

Two Burough's Larder - Charleston, SC

Quick Report:

Been anxiously waiting to get back to Charleston, SC and try the food at Two Burough's Larder. The menu at this restaurant is such a great read for me. I could order just about anything and it would be up my alley. However, I have had my eye on the Szechuan Ox-Tail and Bowl-O-Noodle.

The Szechuan Ox-Tail was delicious. Carolina Gold Fried Rice, peppers, braised and shredded ox-tail stir friend for a little crisp and a fried egg on top. This was a great dish and I couldn't stop eating it. Hard to find this kind of flavor in the CHS area and it was a great spin on Szechuan taste. I even think they put a bit of Szechuan pepper corn in but not certain - my tongue tingling was the indicator.

The Bowl-O-Noodle was just as delicious, especially the super flavorful braised & shredded park they top it with. Along with the pork the soup has house-made buckwheat noodles, as good as any ramen house I've visited , pickled mushrooms (have to be housmade?), sesame greens and kimchi (housemade?). The broth was rich and delicious and I wasn't shy to pick up the bowl and throw it down.

All in all, a great new restaurant to the area and obviously some TLC in the kitchen and front of the house. I will definitely be stopping in next time I'm in town... + points for being next to Dave's Carry Out in case I need my fried seafood fix after my meal.....

Cheap Places to eat in Amsterdam

La Perla Pizza - Delicious!
Japanese Pancake World
Cafe Loetje
Thai Snack Bird

Amsterdam help for early January ... ?

Japanese Pancake World for a unique Japanese Specialty hardly found anywhere in Europe and hardly found done well in the Untied States.

La Perla Pizza - Best Pizza in Amsterdam and very high on my list for anywhere. The Pizza with Nduja (spicy soft cured meat) is off the charts.

Cafe Loetje for a nicer bistro meal with a Dutch spin. One of my favorite places for fish or a steak.

Looking for advice for Charleston, SC

Husk has the Burger on the lunch menu, usually. Given that, I would sit in the main part of the restaurant. It is a beautiful renovation of an old Charleston home.

BRUXELLES FOR THE WEEKEND LOOKING FOR RESTAURANTS SPECIALIZING IN FISH

I know you are looking for a 4 or 5 star at this point but I wanted to correct the assumption of Nordzee (Mer Du Nord), it is not related to the NORDSEE change of fast fish stalls.

If you're looking for a fun lunch, enjoy.

Wine shop in central munchen.. S

Hey Hounds,

I'm going to be in Munchen next weekend and am very familiar with downtown. I have a ton of favorites from Andechser, Der Pschorr and Dallmayr. While Dallmayr has a good wine/liquor area I am interested if anyone has any suggestions for a nice wine shop in the off the beaten bath neighborhoods? I am planning to do a ton of xmas shopping in munchen rather than spend my time in burgundy or peimonte and am interested in finding a good wine shop that I may be able to find some of my favorites at a good price?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

MC

Cheers....

BRUXELLES FOR THE WEEKEND LOOKING FOR RESTAURANTS SPECIALIZING IN FISH

NORDZEE - It's an outdoor walk-up fish market and restaurant. It is always packed and the food is great. Bundle-up, get a glass of wine and order what sounds good to you.

Good, local seafood in Charleston, Folly Beach, Mt Pleasant Area.

Pearlz has a location in West Ashley, just outside of downtown, that is less touristy and some say the food is better too. Just an FYI, if you don't want to deal with the downtown crowds.

Quick Munich round up - very short

Shame you didn't experience Der Pschorr or Schneider for a good beer house experience. I have always wanted to go to Augustiner for a meal but never made it - glad to hear you had a good experience.

Amsterdam - reasonably priced meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner

Well you listed my top cheaper eats:

Japanese Pancake World
La Perla
Brooj Bert - Love the grilled salami, onion and cheese

Not sure what your price threshold is but for a couple nicer dinners Balthazar's Keuken and Cafe de Reiger are high on my list and a good value.

Where's the shad???

I spotted some at Wegman's in Hunt Valley last weekend. Shad Roe.

Need Upscale Dinner Recommendations for Prague

I second Le Degustation - one of my top five meals ever and a beautiful restaurant to boot.

Corner - Hampden

I guess my comment was aimed towards other states, my apologies.

Corner - Hampden

The $1 for a box to go is pretty ridiculous. I would have to disagree with you on the corkage fee though - $7 is nothing compared to standard $15-25 corkage fees found elsewhere.

Sad to hear that this place is off to a poor start.

Stores that stock Italian craft beer

Legends Distributing is responsible for all the Italian Craft Beer Distribution in Maryland, DC and VA. I would call them and ask for some help - I particularly like Nuova Mattina by Birrificio Del Ducato and Dolii Raptor by Birrificio Montegioco.

I live in Baltimore and can source a lot of Italian beers at The Wine Source in Hampden.

Good luck

AMSTERDAM ITINERARY - FOR REFERENCE AND SUGGESTION

Can any of you advise on good chocolate shops for truffles? Would like to put together a box of treats for my wife. thanks!

AMSTERDAM ITINERARY - FOR REFERENCE AND SUGGESTION

Thanks for the heads-up - I called last night and made a reservation - so excited.

Was able to secure a reservation at Marius too.

AMSTERDAM ITINERARY - FOR REFERENCE AND SUGGESTION

Hey all,

Going to be in Amsterdam in from 3/10 - 3/13 - been to town 8 times and am planning to hit some favorites but wanted to give a scope to see if it came up with any good suggestions. So here it goes:

Thursday:

Dinner - La Perla - Nduja pizza - so good!

Friday:

Lunch - Provisions from De Kaaskamer - Spanish ham, cheese and olives.
or
Velminkcx - French Fries - so good!

Dinner - Japanese Pancake World - one of my favorites all time for Amsterdam and Europe as a whole. A one of a kind experience and with limited hours. The last 3 times I've been they've been closed.

Saturday:

Lunch - Broodje Bert - Grilled Salami and Cheese Sandwich or the famous buger

Dinner - Restaurant Marius - god I love this place, my wife will be so jealous but it has to be done.

Hope this helps some of you all and please add suggestions if you see fit!

Thanks.

Seafood, etc in Baltimore/DC

In Baltimore:

During the week - Ryleigh's Oyster Bar in Federal Hill has Oyster Happy hour with $1 oysters of 5-10 different variations.

Mama's on the Half Shell in Canton is a great lunch spot with plenty of seafood options. The Beer Mussels dish is fantastic, good oysters too. My wife and I often go on weekends and share a 1/2 lb. of steamed shrimp and two side salads - which totals about $17. Good deal!

In regards to Craft Beer:

Beer Bars:

Mahaffey's - Great corner local bar in Canton with 20 rotating drafts - good pub grub too. I love the wings with Hot Buffalo and Jerk Seasoning plus a pinch of garlic mixed in. This is my local spot that I frequent all to often - but then again I have a lot of friends there too.

Max's - Max's is the big beer bar of Baltimore with 80 or 90 + taps. I usually drop in when there is a rare seasonal or import that I'm seeking out. Nice service. The bartender on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at lunch is a great guy.

Clipper City Brewing Company - Clipper city is a great local brewery. They are actually rather large and distribute quite far but they turn out good year-round and seasonal beers. They have tours every Saturday which I think are one of the best tours I've ever been on if not the best. $5 for a glass and 6 tokens for generous samples. You can sign up for the tour on their website. I believe they do two every saturday.

Anyhow, enjoy and cheers!

Bummer news about Mi Viejo Pueblito

Personally, I'm not too bummed. The new owner has one of the best Mexican food restaurants in the area in Rosedale. For me personally, this is awesome news!!!

Should have mentinoed the restaurant in Rosedale is Fiest Mexicana - Plent of yelp reviews out there.

My favorite Vietnamese restaurant in Prague, Czech Republic

“Sapa” (named after the hill tribe town in northern Vietnam) in Prague 4 - it's a whole vietnamese community in South Prague - a very interesting experience.

Weekend in Munich

I would suggest Andechser am Dom for lunch - split some sausages and enjoy the great beer. I would suggest Der Pschorr for dinner - one of my favorites. Also, consider the cafe at Dallmayr Delicatessen for lunch - a good and moderate place in a great environment.

Prost, Aberdeen MD

Thanks for posting this! Talk about a perfect location given that many of our U.S. Soldiers spend time in Germany going to and from deployment. I spend 4-6 weeks of the year in Germany and look forward to checking this place out next time I'm in Aberdeen. Pretty nice beer pics I see - happy to see Schenkerla Rauchbier, Schneider, etc.. Tells me they're committed!

December in Munich and Nuremberg

SuzieQ4 - So glad you decided to check out Hutt'n. I ate there just last week and as always it was fantastic. Great beer, food and of course those apple rings. I ended up buying two bottles of the Hazelnuss Schnapps as well.

If you are ever in town again, I checked out Sushi Glass which was recommended in a separate thread and it lived up the reviewers hype. It is an Izikaya style Japanese restaurant. Really good when needing a break from German food. The sushi and yakitori style dishes were very well prepared.

Help in Augusta

Rooster's Beak - Funky Taco Place, e.g.peking duck or korean bbq style tacos. Always a must when I'm in town for business.

Polkadot Pig - GastroPub style restaurant - pretty good option. Had a good Shrimp and Grits last time.

Thai place near Grace Garden?

Have definitely hat bad Thai - Once outside of Fort Rucker, Alabama and the second in Eatontown, NJ.

Also, the thai restaurant in Las Vegas referenced above is called Lotus of Siam - And yes a very good place for Northern Thai Specialties. The walls are littered with pictures of Celebrities that have dined there. They also have a fantastic selection of Alsace and Germany white wines to compliment the cooking.

Cheers!

Most creative kitchen in Baltimore area?

Nyawira: I recently had the Pork Cheek and Oyster dish as well and thought it was delicious, though a ton of food. I'd agree that the pork cheeks are the highlight of the dish. My assumption on the oyster pairing is that the Pork Cheek is considered the oyster of the pig. I believe that's why they paired/compared it to sea oysters.

Anyhow, way too much food but tasty.
