Shake Shack UWS Best/Worst times to eat there.

Agreed, I live close by. It's pretty quiet between 4:30 - 6:00pm. I never consider going there on the weekends or when school is out.

Eric Ripert's new PBS show

Just watched the episode with hog island oysters, loved it. I was thrilled to see the one with David Kinch since I recently had an amazing dinner at Manresa. I just wish this show were longer. FYI, for those who don't get this channel, they air commercials of its dvd release available on the website.

Manresa on Iron Chef March 15

I was very happy for Chef Kinch. I had one of the best meals of my life at Manresa last summer. I spent nearly 6 hours there and got to meet him while touring the kitchen. I'm not often on the west coast but I wouldn't hesitate to go there again if I'm in the SF bay area.

I was a little worried that the judges might have appreciated more protein but he truly honored the secret ingredient.

Top Chef -- 12 Nights (spoilers)

Anyone see the previews for next week? Fabio actually made me laugh out loud when he said (about Jamie) this is top chef not top scallops!

Top Chef Thanksgiving Episode (Maybe Spoilers)

The product placement never really bothered me...until today, just way too blatant. I think the right person went home. I found it amusing that their challenge was in rochester which is 300+ miles away from nyc. The editing made it seem like they drove across town back to judges table.

Had my first UWS Shack Burger!

I walk past it everyday to and from the B train, the lines are pretty quiet on weekdays around 4:30 - 5:30pm. I was there at around 5 today and waited no more than 15 minutes.

Michelin San Francisco

When did Quince move? I was in SF in June and had a great dinner there. The room is so dark, though. I didn't know that was a new location unless they've moved since then.

I also had lunch at Aqua, I didn't think it was worthy of 2 stars. Maybe because I had eaten at Manresa the day before!

Shake Shack - UWS (latest update)

Yeah, it's pretty much tourist season all year round over there. Maybe a bit busier when it's warmer because of the class trips or camps going to the museum. There's also the Sunday farmer's and flea market directly across the street. I'm not sure it'll be so quiet for lunch during the week. Orignal Ray's (by 82nd) often has lines out the door at this time. A lot of construction workers eat lunch and hang out at the benches across the street. A lot of potential customers! I live like a 2 minute walk away so not eating there often will require much discipline :)

Chicken Necks - Where are you?

Ask the butcher at Fairway. Last I've seen them was during the holidays. They probably have plenty but don't package it if it's not in demand.

Kitchen Nightmare 9/25 Maine vs Canadian Lobster?

Right, remember when that annoying owner said he wouldn't put seasoning on a Maine lobster roll because it wouldn't be authentic? Go figure.

breakfast recommendations?

Thanks, everyone. I will certainly take a closer look at these places tomorrow.

ML8000, I had that same feeling about Boulevard. I sort of pushed aside Gary Danko for that reason (unless I'm completely mistaken).

Dinner at Manresa tonight was amazing. The tasting menu had 8 amuses and 12 courses. It lasted nearly 5 hours. I was given a tour of the kitchen and there were more workers than there were diners.

breakfast recommendations?

Hi everyone, I'm from Manhattan and had my first ever trip to Cali 2 weeks ago. I will briefly be back this weekend for work. Has anyone been to Swan Oyster for breakfast? Is it the same lunch menu? I'd consider any good dim sum places. I had a nice breakfast at Canteen and wouldn't mind returning, but is there anything else you can recommend? Thanks in advance. A lot of posts here have helped me in come up with my plans for the next few days:

Thursday:
Manresa for dinner

Friday:
Aqua for lunch
Boulevard for dinner

Saturday:

Zuni Cafe for lunch
Ame for dinner

Sunday:
Slanted Door for lunch (open to other suggestions)
Quince for dinner (if I can secure reservations)

Yeah, I'm pretty much blowing my food budget every day :)

Levain Bakery?

I've been meaning to try their scones, they're usually out by the time I get to go there. I like the oatmeal raisin cookies the most, plus the raisin nut bread (lots of nuts).

San Francisco 22 : New York 0

I also agree with the azuri suggestion. I used to work in the area and I really miss going there. Aside from the falafel, the shawarma and combo salad is amazing. Plus the guy running the place is a character.

UES Burger

Soup burg has really good burgers and are cheap. No UES atmosphere at all, they're a diner on lexington around 76th. The original location on madison closed last year, I don't know if there's a difference in quality.

Best NYC Veal Chop

How was the veal chop prepared that made it so special? L'Atelier has it on their menu for $120 for 2. I won't get to try that any time soon.

Best Bakery for Birthday cake

Yup, wayyyyy overpriced. They sell cakes by the slice if you're interested in anything in particular.

I like Two Little Red Hens. Veniero's and the bakery on the corner of the same block is also very good.

Sat. after 9pm - circa Lincoln Center - need recco!

Kefi is 79th, I don't think they take reservations so it'd be tough with a large crowd.

I'll second telepan.

Looking for some fresh soft shell crab.

The fried soft shell crab at peach farm is great. I don't recall ever seeing it on the menu but they have it if you ask, I believe it was $13 for a nice portion.

NY Chowhounds just moved to Boston - what are your neighborhood favorites?

I'm a NYer in Boston for the past couple of years, moving back in a couple of months. Some of my favorites are brown sugar cafe, clio, great bay and peach farm in chinatown. I haven't really been blown away by pizza/pastries in Boston. I'll mostly miss B&G and peach farms seafood.

Best Halal Street Cart

I'm not experienced with street meat but I wasn't thrilled with "the stand". The sauce is good but the meat was brought in already cooked, it's too thin/flimsy. I couldn't tell the difference in taste between the gyro and chicken. If I'm ever in the mood, I go to the dragonas brothers on madison ave in the 60's. Those guys at least cook chicken breasts on the spot and finish it off on a charcoal grill.

pork shoulder

I've seen niman ranch slab bacon in the better markets. Flying pigs farm at the union square market also has really great stuff. You can call them to make sure they have what you need in stock, http://www.flyingpigsfarm.com/farmers...

Sorry, it's not on the east side but I usually get pork from Esposito pork store (9th & 38th). Great service and very decent prices.

Katz's To Go??

I usually get them as take out and have no problems after 45 minutes or so. Just make sure you get the mustard on the side, I also don't order my sandwiches with rye bread

Crumbs cupcakes?

I'm not really a fan of their cupcakes either, wasn't crazy about the frosting...plus if I splurge, I'd rather go to Levain for cookies. But since I'm a stern/artie fan, I tried an artie lange cupcake and it was pretty damn good...interested to see if they keep that name.

Saturday Lunch near 43rd St & 7th Ave

When I worked in the area, my favorite cheap lunch spots were:

john's pizza - 44th between 7th/8th - only serves by the pie
john's shanghai - 46th between 6th/broadway
margon - 46th between 6th/broadway - cheap great cuban
