Decoding Toaster Ovens
Bought a Breville Smart Oven on Craigs list. $200 new in box, never been opened. I have had a number of toaster ovens over the years and the Breville is by far the best oven I have ever had. I bake in it, broil , toast and reheat. It has never dissapointed me. Pretty pricey but I think it will be the last toaster oven I buy.

BREVILLE COUNTER TOP SMART TOASTER/CONVECTION OVEN
I have had one for about a month and absolutely love it. Bought it on Craig's List new in box, never opened for $200 cash. So far, I have toasted, broiled and baked several dishes. It has worked flawlessly. I find it easy to use and easy to clean. Would highly recommend it to anyone.
PEPPER GRINDERS
I have both a hand crank Peugeot and a Magnum. Yes I am a pepper freak. The one thing I have found with the Peugeot is that it is hard to keep the grind consistent as the setting nut on the grind mechanism loosens up quickly with use. I have never had any issue with the Magnum. I will never part with the Magnum and uses it exclusively now. The Peugeot sits lonely on the shelf as a decoration as it looks nicer than the Magnum.
Where to get hot pepper hoagie relish in L.A.?
Angelo's Deli and Market on Main St. in Seal Beach has 12oz jars of Cento diced hot cherry peppers. Says Hoagie spread on label. Good stuff
japanese or steak for lunch in/very near seal beach?
You might try Patty's Place for steaks. Not sure about their lunch menu. It is right around the corner from Koi in the same center. Prime steaks and martinis. Lunch is usually in the bar area but they do seat parties in the dining room in back during lunch.
Cuisinart 175 or B&D 6301 Digital Convection Toaster Oven
The window is glass. One thing I don't like about mine - it is about 5 years old - is that crumbs accumulate in the crack at the bottom of the class door where it pivots and is very hard to clean. They may have changed the door design to prevent this, I would check. To the post below, it gets hot enough that we set plates on top while it is in use and use it as a plate warmer. I would buy another when this one dies.
Henckels knife block question - will this block fit my 10" Forschner?

What online stores do you use for cookware purchases?
I really like cookware and more - good prices on all clad seconds. I have bought several and the imperfections are hard to find. A poorly cast handle (barely noticeable) or a slight dent or ding in the pot. About 1/3 off regular prices and if you buy 4 they take another 10% off the total. Drive up PCH to Seal Beach and try the breakfast burritos at Nick's Deli on Main street. Little bit of heaven on a tortilla.
Breakfast in Highland Park
Don't remember the name but it is the burger place on York around 48th or 50th St on the south side of the street. (Athens burger?) Good inexpensive breakfasts. Great specials - french toast, 3 eggs, 2 sausage links and 2 bacons for $4 and change. Lots of cops there in the morning.

Fredos on Lake in Pasadena. You have to ask for cheese whiz. Pretty damn good and authentic. Rolls are flown in from Philly. Do a search on this board.

Recipes You've Never Heard of Outside Your Family
My dad used to make hot dog pancakes on weekends when we were growing up. Pour out pancake batter on the griddle and then put sliced hot dog rounds in the batter - sometimes in a happy face design or sometimes just random. Wait till cooked on one side and flip. Butter and syrup just like regular pancakes. Still make them occasionally to this day.
How do you eat your corn on the cob?
First you need two prong corn holders in each end. OXO makes nice ones. Make sure corn is nice and hot and then roll it on a fresh stick of butter. Salt to taste and now the good part. Sprinkle liberally with CHILI POWDER. That's the secret. BTW, typewriter method also - 2 rows at a time. Yum.

Long Beach farmer's market on Sunday on Marina Drive off of 2nd Street. They have a stand with Buffalo and they are there every sunday.

Google Diestel Farms and click on the area you will be staying and there are links to markets that sell them. Very good farm raised birds, they also have organic - not local but up the coast - Sonora, Cal.
Best Breakfast Burrito in OC?
Nick's Deli on Main Street in Seal Beach. Best Surfer breakfast. The breakfast burrito - filled with eggs, chorizo, bacon, potatoes and cheese - comes in mild or medium, and are wrapped inside a soft flour tortilla and baked. Yummm.
Best BBQ?
Not too far from where you are. This is my favorite. Chopped beef on a bun with spicy sauce. Have to eat it with a fork but good. Great ribs.
