Best Indian Food Ever!

I've only ever managed the weekday lunch buffet - but it's always been wonderful. Good to know there's lots more to look forward too.

YYC - Looking for a goose to roast...

Thanks - I called Second to None and they have some...

Elderflower Cordial

Yes - I agree with the Ikea suggestion. I love it!

YYC - Looking for a goose to roast...

LOL. I was hoping to buy one already plucked & gutted...

Any ideas at which butcher shop or where to find one? Perhaps the Hutterites at the market? For this upcoming Thanksgiving weekend.

Boxwood (Calgary)

I usually go to Boxwood at least once a month. Maybe it was just an off day today? Unfortunate...

I find the pricing very reasonable mostly and I just had the chicken sandwich last week, which was great!

Hannis for take-out?

I love it! It's been a while, but they had one pizza with chicken & hot peppers that I remember very fondly. It was delish...

where to find creme fraiche in Edmonton, AB

It's super easy to make your own. Take a cup of whipping cream (unwhipped) and add a couple tablespoons of buttermilk. Some recipes say to heat the cream until 105 deg first. Stir and leave it on your counter for a day or two until it's thickened.

Then refrigerate - that's it...

2010 Foodie Tootle - Calgary

It wasn't Pasu, that I know for sure. I think it may have been Katadin (or something like that) - closer to Red Deer - anyhow, the sheep were a special breed that looked more like goats! LOL...

I've also been wanting to try Pasu - heard many good things...

2010 Foodie Tootle - Calgary

These have been running for a while now (but not heavily advertised, I think) - I went to one a few years back hosted by dee Hobsbawn Smith (a local chef & author).

I also highly recommend. When I went, I think the cost was $45 or something ridiculous like that - no wonder they upped the price.

All in all it was a fabulous day outing - lunch, dinner & snacks included. We ended up at a lamb ranch/farm somewhere around Red Deer - I forget the name of the place. Dinner was cooked at the farm, by dee & others from food purchased during the day's travels.

It was a wonderful day and I am looking into getting a few friends together to go again, that's for sure!!!

I'm Stuck - Dinner for 8 Girls

Another vote for Brava Bistro.

A group of us 6 ladies went a couple of years go - dinner and a movie (first Sex & the City movie). It was fabulous and the service was memorably great. We are going again in a couple of weeks - dinner & a movie again (this time Sex & the City 2!!). Glad to see by the previous posts that it's still great.

Moroccan - Casbah or Sultan's Tent - which to choose?

Any advice for choosing one Moroccan restaurant above the other? Taking my 15 yr. old daughter for birthday dinner - thought it would be fun.

bad pizza in calgary

Sorry, I've always enjoyed Bob's as well. An 'off' night in the kitchen, perhaps?

Calgary Area - Where to buy bulk high quality meat?

http://www.countrylanefarms.com/

For chickens... for sure - delivered to a parking lot near you! Not sure if they're organic but 'No Antibiotics - Naturally Raised' flag on the website. I can vouch - they are great.

Using Corkage service at restaurants - general opinions wanted...

Some friends and I were having a discussion the other day about bringing our own bottle of wine to a restaurant. I've never done it, but my wallet is saying that I should try it sometime.

One friend let on that she would never bring her own bottle to dinner. I asked her to elaborate and she admitted that she would feel embarrassed. After some back and forth the conversation ended with her saying for sure she would never, ever bring her own to the restaurant where her son worked as she felt that it would somehow reflect on their status or something.

This opinion kind of shocked me, as I always thought it was a great idea. So, who is out to lunch here? Me or my friend?

Is there some status connotation to using corkage?

Sylvan Lake?

Any recommendations for lunch in Sylvan Lake? Patio? Wine? On the strip or off. Just a few of us ladies checking out the town while the kids are at the water slide.

Baklava in Calgary

Can anyone tell me where I can get good home-style dripping with syrup Baklava? I would like the big slabs like you get in greek restaurants, not the little morsels that are available in most grocery store deli's. Ideally, I would like to get a whole pan-full, as I am feeding about 10 people for a greek feast.

One idea I had is to ask around at the Greek Festival that is held every year in Shaganappi - but any other suggestions would be welcome!

Superstore's new bread pudding

Never geeky! Is it in the frozen foods section? I'd love to try it.

Nice litte map, but I am sure there are more places than what is on the map.

Gate Sales & Growers, AB

This is great... thanks.

There are probably even more growers/producers that didn't make it onto this map.

Polish delis in Calgary?

I like Jans Meat & Delicatessen just off Crowchild N. (2436 2 Avenue NW, Calgary, AB T2Nā€Ž - (403) 270-8334ā€Ž). This was recommended by a co-worker who is originally from Poland. Their kielbassa is great!

Looking for a good North American Dinner Buffet

No kids allowed at Grey Eagle as far as I know. At least that was the case when we tried to go for brunch this spring. We were stopped cold at the front door, turned around and marched out. Maybe they've changed their tune since then?

YYC breakfast spots

I LOVE Pfanntastic Pannenkoeks! We go there at least 2x month. Similar to large crepe, but the fillings are baked into the batter, not rolled around. Choices are huge from savory to sweet. Prices are excellent, most pannenkoeks are 10-12 range for the savory ones. Very fresh food and great quick service. Nice touches to the service, like getting a gratis speculaas cookie with your tea. Very laid back family style place. Great for kids - they have a big toy box by the front door. Don't forget to try the Stroop syrup (a container is on every table) on your pancake - the owner suggested trying it on our savory pancakes - yum!

Recommendations for Thanksgiving Dinner Take-Out (Calgary)

This year I have decided to take a relaxed approach to Thanksgiving dinner, and was wondering if the hounders can recommend any places that do a take-out version of turkey et al. I thought that Sunterra had something in years past - any others that you can recommend?

Fresh Seafood available in Red Deer????

Is there a place to get fresh seafood (clams, mussels, lobster, etc.) in Red Deer?

Great Falls, MT recommendations?

Coming for a visit in a couple weeks. Are there any mid-range restaurant to recommend or local 'not to be missed' specialities to be had? Anything goes as far as what we are looking for, I just would prefer not frequenting any chains.

Lobster in Calgary??

My daughter would like to try lobster for her 13th birthday dinner. I was thinking of taking her to 'Red Lobster' for a tail or two.

Just wondering if the Calgary hounders had any other suggestions. I think she would prefer a traditional presentation (butter, etc.) rather than asian, etc., but any suggestions would be appreciated.

Beef Jerky in Calgary?

Great - thanks for all of the ideas!

Beef Jerky in Calgary?

Where can I get good beef jerky in Calgary? No time to drive down to Longview... Any suggestions from hounders...
