Trader Joe's Yay/Nay Thread - May 2013 Thanks for the suggestions! I will definitely have to try it since I love pies. Maybe I can do something with the wontons that are thawed out in the fridge right now. |

Trader Joe's Yay/Nay Thread - May 2013 Yay/meh-Dried white peaches=while I like that the peaches are not too sweet, I do wish they were a touch sweeter. But these are very chewy. I don't know how I am going to finish the rest of it though. I normally like to eat the dried fruit plain without anything but now not sure how to finish these since they aren't as sweet as other fruit. |

Trader Joe's Yay/Nay Thread - May 2013 Can't wait to try these then since I am a huge fan of the soft and juicy mango. |

I really like Aria. We had gone during last summer restaurant week. My favorite dish has to be the wild mushroom pizza. My friend favorite dish is the penne a la vodka. Only bad thing I had to say was that when I ordered a soda thinking it was going to be a fountain drink, it was in a small plastic bottle. |

Do You Know What It Means to Miss New Orleans? I definitely know what it means to miss New Orleans. Missing the family get togethers and the great food of my grandma. All the great vietnamese party foods like her specialty chicken sticky rice, crab claws with pork paste covered with panko and deep fried to golden brown, my grandpa rabbit that I can't even describe. Then there are the king cakes, Cafe Du Monde beignets, pralines, gumbo and so so much more. |

I heard that as well but had not been able to confirm. I think it is all about location though because if you didn't know it was there you just wouldn't know. |

Originally from New Orleans and have only been to funerals down there. Each day after the prayer services at my grandma house for my grandfather funeral, drinks were serve to those that came to the prayer services. After the first visitation mass (Catholic) on Friday, we had a dinner were we prepared most of the food for the people that came over. I think we had a Vietnamese style salad with cabbage, crab, carrot, cucumber and shrimp with Vietnamese nuoc cham, thit kho(braised pork), some chicken dish, a veggie stirfry, and plenty of rice. On Saturday after the funeral mass, my mom and her siblings had decided to cater it at one of the local halls, they had the Vietnamese style salad, sticky rice, egg rolls and a couple other dishes that I can't recall at the moment. This is becoming more normal with the Vietnamese community to have it catered because it isn't typical for people to bring over food for the families. |

What are you baking these days? April 2013 edition... [old] Just cheated and used a box cake mix for a peanut butter snack cake. Just licking the bowl was really good. I just wish I could have sliced myself a piece but it is for our Relay for Life bake sale tomorrow. |

Picking the Right Seat at a Restaurant? Do you strategize to get the perfect spot (for you)? I tend to sit towards the end of the table. If not I like to sit on the outside. I hate being stuck in the middle with having to get people to move when I want to get out if I am in a booth. |

Sounds almost like monkey bread but a savory version instead of sweet. Sounds really good! |
|

I still see sandwich spread in my local store (NC). Kraft and Duke both make their own versions. Just check near the mayo for it. |

I could have sworn that place was already opened. I remember one of the proprietor of the International Supermarket telling us about going there. |

I would cook more if I didn't have to clean. But also if I had more people eating my cooking. My family doesn't really eat much American foods (we are Vietnamese). So it is really hard to cook just for me and can't really freeze since there never seems to be any space. |

Stealing Buddha's Dinner is one of my favorite especially since I can totally relate the joys of being Vietnamese in a non-Vietnamese culture. |

You and your omelet - how many eggs? 2 or 3 depending on how many eggs I have had in the week. Just don't want to overdo on eggs. |

A new place has opened up in Kojan Bistro place. It is called Inter Korea. It is a mix of Chinese and Korean with a much bigger menu then Kojan Bistro had. I had the japchae and the mandoo that night. The mandoo was nothing like what I had in the past with other dumplings. Too thin and very oily. But the japchae was too die for! I would return just for that! |

I am right there with you on the water chestnuts. The texture is just off to me. |

Are You Snacking on Anything Right Now? That sounds really good! I will definitely have to do it as soon as I get some bread. |

Are You Snacking on Anything Right Now? I don't have any chips in the house but I started following what my boss did with pimento cheese the other day for a meatless lunch/snack. Had the sandwich things spread some pimento cheese on it then stuck it in the toaster oven to get toasted. Now that is yum as long as you don't burn the roof of your mouth eating it. |
|
|
Are You Snacking on Anything Right Now? I had pimento cheese with pretzels earlier. |

What Chow do you ship to yourself?? In the past we have sent king cakes, Elmer's CheeWee, Zapp chips and pralines from New Orleans. I have also bought stuff from www.nuts.com and See's |

Are You Snacking on Anything Right Now? You just reminded me I had a bag of those very pistachios. Thanks! This is going to be an awesome snack! |

Do you think it could be the same spices as used in Pho? Because I know we put the spices in a cheesecloth for the ones in Pho which does have the cinnamon, star anise and a couple other ones. |

Planning a dinner party, How do you handle dietary restrictions I have a small group of friends that I know what everyone dietary needs are unless they are on a diet that I have not been told about. So I know who will and won't eat what. But if there is someone new then at that time I will ask them if there is something they can't eat. The only thing I know of for sure is that a few that is very allergic to shellfish so I don't make any of that at all just to be safe on cross contamination. |
