Where can I get a Ploughman's lunch/plate?
Cheese, bread, mustard, something pickled... I had one last year at the People's Pint in Greenfield- a little out of the way. I've been craving one ever since. Seen any on menus in the Boston area?? Thanks!!
If you're ever out by Greenfield, make it a point to stop by the People's Pint- great beer + food.
Non-gourmet Food Trucks
$6 got me a pulled pork sandwich from BBQ Smith. It was excellent...

What discontinued products do you miss?
I would cut down a rainforest for some rainforest crunch... soooo good!
Looking for somewhere fun to take 24-year olds for a birthday dinner in Boston...
Cuchi Cuchi in Central Square is super fun with good food + drinks.
Strange Pairings that Taste Uncommonly Good
Love this post! Here are a few:
--peanut butter stuffed jalapeno poppers- had them at a restaurant in NYC- so amazing
--hot dogs in a heated combination of currant jelly and yellow mustard- don't knock it til you tried it
--cocktail sauce and cream cheese on crackers
--boxed mac-n-cheese with canned stewed tomatoes- oh yes
haven't had any of these in years... that's about to change!
For the adults:
-- shot of vodka with a dill pickle chaser!
Weekend of eating in Portland!
I don't go for another couple weeks, please let me know where you went and what you thought!
Have fun!
Family foods I thought was normal
In my Christmas stocking, I would always get macadamia nuts and cocktail onions!
Weekend of eating in Portland!
Hey hey,
We are spending a weekend in Portland and want to make sure we're not missing anything.
Friday night: up in the air- possilbly Hugo's or Bar Lola
Sat: We want to walk around and have a few small bites throughout the day- nothing big as we are going to Fore Street for a late dinner. Possibilities for small bites: charcuterie and beer at Novare Res, Duck Fat, J's for oysters, Nosh for burger and fries... What else??
Also, what other fun things should we do? Probably something that requires exercise...
Thanks a bunch!
Hot Dogs: the Definitive List.
Not in Massachusetts, but some of my faves include Flo's in York, Maine (hot sauce and mayo!!) and New York System Weiners in Olnyville, RI.

Hot Dogs: the Definitive List.
Kimchee Dog and Mike & Patty's is fantastic. Their best is the Banh Mi Dog.
Any good Restaurant Week reports?
Had the RW menu at Lumiere last night. Best deal ever. Food was phenomenal as were the wine pairings. We left stuffed and very happy. Stand outs: Verrill Farms Corn Soup, 'Ritz' cracker Pollack, Sofia's Yogurt... Oh, and I'm addicted to the salsa verde that is served on the bluefish.

Current favorite Tasting Menu??
Looking for a great tasting menu, not too $$$, maybe around the $75pp range. Any suggestions for a group of 6-8 would be much appreciated!! Thanks!
Capelletti, anywhere from Acton to Newton?
Kat, you'll be sad to know Oliva's no longer makes them! I grew up on them and will now take up the task of making them for my family. Now, if I can only get that recipe...
Audio food podcasts??
Hey all,
Looking for some new podcasts to listen to... any suggestions?? I am listening to linecook415 right now and love it. Thanks!
Boston area's Best Donuts
I agree about Verna's! Their coffee rolls are amazing, as well as the honey dipped. I love the classic 70s feel to the shop, but I usually pick mine up at Mike & Patty's.
Best Burrito in Boston
Olecito for their pork burrito!! Don't forget to grab a rajas taco and a baja taco while your there....
Declining Economy = Declining Quality?
Recently went to the Kenmore location of Petit Robert having not been in a long while. I needed a french onion soup fix! I ordered the soup, pates and a bottle of delicious wine. I remember the soup being hot and gooey with pungent gruyere. This was not hot or gooey or gruyere! Some shabby, tasteless cheese sat atop my soup, adding nothing to the overall flavor and enjoyment. Sad. But, the pates were as delectable as always except in place of delightful little cornichons were slices of sandwich dill pickles. I did miss those little cornichons.
Has anyone else experienced what seems to be cost cutting measures effecting overall quality/enjoyment at their favorite places of late??
Your mom's weird cooking ... and other stories? (recipes encouraged)
For holiday parties: mini hot dogs in a heated sauce of grape jelly and yellow mustard. Seriously good!
Where to buy squid ink??
I need to score some for this weekend. Any suggestions??? Thank you endlessly...
Fresh jalapeno poppers
Excellent ones at the Village Smokehouse in Brookline Village. That is all I would eat there, though.
South End Buttery
I haven't visited the Buttery in over a year and thought I would stop in today to see the changes. Looks great, nice cases full of baked goods and prepared foods. I stood behind the only other person in the store to wait to place my order to one of the 3 people behind the counter. 3 other people quickly came in, one of which got their order taken immediately. As I was about to get ignored again, another customer quickly pointed out that I had been there before anyone and should get to order first. I placed my order, not caring too much about getting skipped. I asked how they managed to luckily be with power during a massive power outage. Instead of a reply, I received a blank stare. Now, I remember why I haven't been in a year! Rude service and huge, unremarkable muffins. Coffee's good, though.
Visiting Portland... where MUST we go??
Thanks so much everyone! Can't wait to eat...
Visiting Portland... where MUST we go??
Hi Portland,
Boston chowhounders need food recommendations for an upcoming visit. We love eating locally grown foods, housemade charcuterie and any not-to-be-missed street food or quick bites. Thanks!!!
Cheese Plates - Where is your favorite?
The selection at the Publick House is unique. The spicy Chouffe mustard makes the plate!!! However, you only get one cheese per plate...
smokin' joes, brighton center
I just went too... We split the crab cakes and brisket sandwich. I thought the food was good (not great). Waitstaff was great. I will go back to try the ribs or pulled pork. They offer 6 different 'Q' sauces- all very sweet. I liked the hot... very gingery.
Grille Zone - Interesting New Joint for Burger Connoisseurs
Just went last night... We really enjoyed the burgers and fries! They were huge, juicy and perfect. I love that they are cooked to order and the restaurant is GREEN!!! I do have a couple complaints: the bun is HUGE (but won't keep me from going back) and the grill cook was using the computer with her gloves on then immediately touching food (GROSS). Also, a couple came in with their children who were out of control, running thru the restaurant, jumping up and down on the seats, screaming, crying... that sucked. This is not mcdonald's. Dammit.
Did La Verdad alter its shtick?
I agree. It was my third time there yesterday and will be my last for a LONG while. I would be a regular if I could still get two tacos for under $3 each and split a torta... but with the new $12 minimum, forget it. Their beer prices even went up. BOO to the new menu.
