"Poor Man's" $1 Big Mac -- save $$$ at Mickey D's

My apologies. There was a thread about adding creamer, etc. that is available to customers after getting their drink in a way to alter the drinks at Starbucks drinks a couple years ago and you'd have thought you walked into a session of Parliament.
Some places it's ok to "alter" things, some it's not, I guess.

San Diego foodie moving to Bowling Green, Ohio

Ohio is a big state. Where have you gone? Here, in Dayton, we have at least four places that do a great job doing more than your typical gringo Mexican.

As for as BG/Toledo/Perrysburg, I would agree, though.

"Poor Man's" $1 Big Mac -- save $$$ at Mickey D's

Well, yes, but DON'T ANYONE DARE take advantage of the cream/honey/etc. they offer once you get your drink. Shortcuts are not allowed. Not with Starbucks. No nay never!

I don't know about the folks at Starbucks themselves, but some people get mad at the thought. Mickey D's has its devotees, sure, but it's ok to work the loopholes there.

Squeakers is more of a grocer with a decent-sized menu. Not mucn seating that could see, but I only carried out. Lots of organic groceries.

Squeakers, In BG (imagine that), is a decent vegetarian/vegan option on the North side of downtown. You should check that out, iltegf.

Bowling Green actually has plenty of non-franchise restaurants, especially on Main St. (State Route 25.) It's a small town, but a college town with the bit of variety that goes wth college towns. You may want to check out Call of the Canyon, also "downtown." Easystreet Cafe and Sam B's are also worth trying. For pizza, Pagliai's (pronunced polly eyes) and Myles's are the go-to places.

Just don't try anything like that at Starbucks. You will incur a such a wrath you may rethink ordering anything out ever again.

Sharaku in West Bloomfield—anyone tried?

It is obscurred, isn't it? I've also heard Kitchen Hanzo, in the same strip, is worth trying.

Keith Gilabert: "Two words,,,,, chili-spaghetti at Bob's Big boy!"

I thought Frisch's offered that, but I haven't tried it. I'm not crazy about Skyline, personally. But maybe because I was already an adult with set taste patterns and ideas about chili before I moved to Ohio.

Wendy's chili cheese fries

Do you dip your fries in the chili?

Wendy's chili cheese fries

This seems like a natural to me. I like dipping their fries in the chili. It is the same chili they sell individually, right?

Keith Gilabert: "Two words,,,,, chili-spaghetti at Bob's Big boy!"

As can be deduced from earlier in this thread, chili spaghetti is popular in Cincinnati, Ohio and the surrounding area, with Cincinnati-style chil being what is used.

Has anyone tried both versions? How do they compare, and, please, leave the snark at home when replying.

Keith Gilabert: "Two words,,,,, chili-spaghetti at Bob's Big boy!"

So is that better or worse than what comes from Ohio?

Cincinnati chili has no kidney beans?

Gaffigan is great, as well. He has a funny routine about Hot Pockets, which, AFAIK, do not have anything with chili in them.

Cincinnati chili has no kidney beans?

You may like the comedy of Jon Pinette, iL Divo, in case you have not heard of him. You can think of him as the foodie comedian. His comedy is clean, but he's a large man who has food as a major part of his routine. He calls Italy the "Motherland". Doubtless, he would have opinions about chili, Cincinnati and otherwise.

Cincinnati chili has no kidney beans?

They call him Tater Salad. He's one of the Blue Collar comedians along with Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy.

The Fiddler @ Farmington Hills [DTW]

Agreed. I have enjoyed it when I've been there, but it has ben a while. rainsux has never let me down before with his reviews, so I am looking forward to it.

Cincinnati chili has no kidney beans?

Well said.

Cincinnati chili has no kidney beans?

There is NO ultimate authority on chili. Not even a smug comedian.

Cincinnati chili has no kidney beans?

Blue Ash Chili, with two locations (mason as well as the original) has a 6-way, with jalapeno bottle caps as the sixth way.

The Fiddler @ Farmington Hills [DTW]

There's a Fiddler in Farmington Hills, too? I only know of the West Bloomfield location on Orchard Lake South of Maple.

Dayton - Pho Mi Vietnamese Restaurant

I wonder if transitioning from running a Chinese restaurant for so long to a Vietnamese restaurant is the issue.

Captain D's Seafood Restaurant

I know people who absolutely despise Captain D's. Where I am, they have quite a following among Seniors, but that seems to be about it. Yours seemed to be a bad location experience, though, with the food temperature being so varied. At least, I hope it was.

Dayton - Stars at the Crowne Plaza

Either they're trying to start or have started live trivia on Mondays. I've only had catered food there (parties, etc.) , and that's always been fine. But that doesn't really speak of the restaurant.

Lunch and breakfast can be had, pretty cheap and plenty of variety, at the Second Street Market on Webster.

Woodmans - Largest Grocery Store in the USA in Wisconsin!

Fairfield or the new store at Eastgate?

Dayton - Pho Mi Vietnamese Restaurant

I've carried out from there shortly after they opened. I can't remember exactly what I had, but I did enjoy it. I've not been back simply because I am of the mindset that I'd like to try a new place each time I go out if I can help it.
I had no idea they were owned by the Wah Fu folks when I tried it, but I found that out as you did. Unfortunately, they don't add your bill up using an abacus as Wah Fu did. But I am definitely inclined to return soon, now. I hope they make it. That location has not done well for previous tenants.

I noticed the Metro Times is also doing their best of poll at this time. That should be interesting for comparison.

Double decker sandwiches in Cinncinati?

Ramiz's, across from the National Cemetery on W. Third St. I'm not sure when it closed but it's been boarded up the last few times I've driven by. Of course, that doesn't mean for sure. A few places West of downtown don't open until 4 or 5 pm and this was earlier than that.

Double decker sandwiches in Cinncinati?

While I've yet to find a restaurant that serves goetta and I think the last chili parlor (Skyline and Goldstar do not count) has closed in Dayton, there is a place in Huber Heights that serves double deckers. It is Home Boyz Carryout on Troy Pike. While they don't call the sandwiches double deckers per se, that is exactly what they are. And they're good.

Jack in the Box 2/$.99 Cheeseburgers

Sorry, as an Ohioan I was just excited to see Jack and the Box in St. Louis after they left my area so many years ago. I'm not really a fast food guy but there has been enough talk here about their tacos that has me intrigued.

I know plenty of people who would jump all over that deal here.

Jack in the Box 2/$.99 Cheeseburgers

I think St. Louis is as far as they go East.
