Wife's 50th birthday party -- seeking restaurant/hotel/club near Marina or just Westside
I hosted a 60th birthday luncheon for my Aunt at Cafe Del Rey and it was really nice. They have a nice private room, called the Regatta room, off to the side and it's right on the marina. It did not have a balcony to step out on to, but with the way the room is set up you wouldn't need it since it's right on the water.
Maya, she was the private event coordinator, was awesome. She really worked with me on the menu and made everything so easy. The service was great. We only had about 15-20 people I think, but the room holds up to 60.
Food wise, I thought it was really good. I had a few people return to the restaurants after the party with their family members. We did a sit down thing, but I know they can do a buffet style. I can't remember off the top of my head how much it was per person, but I remember it being very reasonable.
I think it's worth giving them a call and checking the place out.

Horseradish for Prime Rib
Wow-you are all awesome! I even love the tip on cooking the meat. If I'm stress out about the horseradish sauce you can imagine how stressed out I am about the prime rib. It's dry aging in my fridge as we speak. I can't even begin to count how many different sites I've been to about how to cook it. But back to the horseradish-thanks for the input. I'm glad it wasn't a huge unanimous "get your butt to the farmer's market!"
I have some (okay a lot) of things to pick up at the market tomorrow, so I'll get what I need for the sauce tomorrow-or just buy some pre made ones specifically the brands you guys mentioned. As always you all came through for me. Hope you all have a delicious weekend!
Horseradish for Prime Rib
I'm attempting to make my first prime rib for the family on Saturday and need some horseradish. I noticed there were some in bottles at the Hollywood Farmer's Market on Fairfax, at the stall where they sell corned beef sandwiches, among a lot of other things.
I was wondering if that stuff was really that good. Good enough to drive over there in this horrible weather with two young chowhounds in the making who aren't feeling the best. Fighting for parking with the last minute shoppers.
I'm coming from Montebello so it is a bit of a drive.
Can anyone recommend someplace less crowded where I might be able to pick some up? Or should I just head down to my local supermarket and get some off the shelf?
Perfect Chocolate cake... Where are you?
I get really paranoid when I see chocolate cake at a party because I think it's going to be dry, which most times it is. But the one time I don't get worried is when I see it's a chocolate dobash cake from Angel Maid bakery. The dobash cake from the king's hawaiian bakery is good too.
I Have Found the Perfect Bun for Burgers
I haven't had their burger. I've had their short rib tacos which were realty good. But they're English muffins are so good. I don't know if they use them for their burgers, I know they are my go to hamburger buns. Their huevos ranchero is good too.
Looking for delicious chili to takeout...westside thru downtown please
I know you said downtown but I have to throw out that B-man's in San Gabriel makes some awesome chicken chili. They use the same chicken they use in their chicken bowls. Shamefully I have to admit I like the chili at Ralphs. The one by their hot soups.

I Have Found the Perfect Bun for Burgers
I made the most ultimate burgers using the burger mix from Mc Call's butcher in Los Feliz. But the best buns for the ultimate burgers were the house made English muffins from La Grand Orange in pasadena on Raymond avenue.
New Boiling Crab Locations in Rowland Heights and another in Alhambra
I didn't see anything about a palm springs location, but I noticed the website didn't have the new Rowland or Alhambra loctations posted either. So who knows?!

I went to Boiling Crab last night (the Alhambra location on Valley) and noticed on the back of the menu that they have two new locations "Coming Soon".
Rowland Heights and another Alhambra location on Main Street-I think.
The waitress said the Rowland location should be opening early next year.
Hopefully that will make the wait a little less painful and hopefully both of these new locations will have a better parking setup.
Apologies if this news has already been posted, I did a search and didn't see anything.
King Torta, Cook's Tortas, and Gloria's Cocina Mexicana
I love Cook's Torta, but I am by no means a torta expert. I actually really like the Milanesa-but my absolute favorite one is the bbq pork one they serve only on Sunday when they do BBQ. I know I know, bbq pork is not a traditional torta, but I don't think Cook's Torta is a traditional torta kind of place.
Bean & Cheese Burritos--Who has the BEST?
May I suggest also trying the sopes? To keep to the burrito theme, I do like how you can get three different sizes in their burritos at My Taco-even though I love that place, the beans don't do it for me.

Awesome Carne Asada in El Sereno
I had to thank you for the tip about this place! It was so good and SO close to my place. I needed some good carne asada at the last minute and was going to stop at El Sereno meat market, but after finding this review decided to try and find this place instead. I'm so glad I did. The pollo asada was really good too. But the carne asada was so tender, not tough at all, and had a great flavor. The employees are super nice too!

There's a korean market in Glendale that has a long open bar of banchan and you scoop as much or as little as you want into containers and pay for it by weight. I think it's off Pacific off the 134. I know you said k-town preferred, but I was kind of impressed by the variety they had.

I'm trying to figure out which place to try out with my friend. We went to POP champagne about a month ago and spent hours munching on okay/decent food and catching up on old times. I had been to POP before but just for dessert, so I knew it had the right vibe I was looking for and thought giving their dinner menu a try would be fine.
I'm looking for something with good food, good desserts (although if there's another good dessert place not too far from either location, I don't mind making another stop), and a decent environment. Somewhere I won't feel like we're being rushed out and can take our time eating. Drinks aren't that important.
I've been to Bottega Louie and am aware that it can get loud, but the place is pretty cool and the food wasn't bad at all. I think she might like it.
I have NOT been to Vertigo Wine Bistro, so I don't know what to expect except for the pictures I've seen and the reviews I've read-which haven't been too bad.
I know Vertigo is slightly pricier, but I think doable. Of course I like the idea of a "tapas" feel, just so we can try and munch on a variety of food without getting full. I'm looking for a way to get variety and quality or quantity.
I'm in the Highland Park area, so either location is fine for me. I'd prefer not to drive out to the westside or Hollywood, so any other recommendations in Pasadena/or Downtown are welcomed.
Another place I've thought of is Daisy Mint (but I think you should go wth more than just two people to taste more of the menu). I know there are a few place in downtown that are coming up, but I'm not too familiar with them.
Lastly, kind of cuisine-doesn't matter. She's pretty open to anything and I am too, so anything is fair game.

Best deal All 'you can eat' Japanese restaurant ?
I haven't been, but there's a place called, "Tokoro" on Fair Oaks, right next to the Papa John's in South Pasadena, that has a lunch special AYCE sushi for $20. From other reviews I've read, apparently it changed ownership and is pretty good now, compared to before.
I think it starts at 11:30am and goes to 3pm?
