Second time I'm asking. I got some circuitous email before.
Anything good in Alderwood Mall Area - SEA
I'll have to stop by H-Mart and do some wok shopping and check out the food court. I love Pho.
Anything good in Alderwood Mall Area - SEA
LOL "suburan hell full of faceless franchises". That's what I hear all the time downtown when I mention where i live. They also make strange faces and say "Lynwood....Lynwood?". I'm sure I'll learn why eventually :)
Anything good in Alderwood Mall Area - SEA
I love Szechwan, thanks ! Pretty much anything spicy. I'll have to find out what's unique about Chitown Gyros.
Anything good in Alderwood Mall Area - SEA
I really appreciate all the tips. :) I'm compiling a list of good places for mayself and when the boyfriend moves out here later on. He's a USAF pilot and stuck in North Carolina right now.
New Peruvian place, Lynnwood
I'll have to check this place out. Since you mentioned Cuban cuisine, are they any really good ones that stand out? Thanks:)

I can see all the chain places and there are few interesting places inside, but is anything really outstanding? Sometimes you find treasures that are not well known due to location or some other aspect of the place.
Are there things to avoid as well? Trying not to find out by trial and error. Thanks !
good quality salt/pepper grinders SEA?
H'mmm lots of good info here. Le Creuset Outlet Store? Perk ! I must go !
Lunchbox Laboratory Revisited
Carls might be a better example. I think you get my point though. And I'm really not looking at sides (fries, rings, etc).
Lunchbox Laboratory Revisited
Locations vary and also remember that with chains you have company owned locations and franchisee owned places. I've actually had Jack In The Box sirloin patties better than many sit down restaurants. It gets that bad.
Lunchbox Laboratory Revisited
In my travels, I find $9-12 dollars for a high quality burger to be pretty much the average. Chicago, NYC, Atlanta, and here, it really doesn't vary too much.
I've found a few major burger types:
1) Low quality, small pattie/ large varied toppings
I'd say Red Mill and Red Robin fall into this category
2) Higher quality pattie/large varied common toppings
Fatburger, in and Out,, many small independent joints
3) Multiple size high quality patties/large selection gourment toppings
Lunchbox Laboratory, steak houses, "unique" dives we love and know
4) Nibbles, Bites, and Trios
Chain restaurants reducing the size of entree's and smothering them with
a multitude of toppings. "There's a burger there someplace!". and the server
has enough "flare" on their uniform.
I like fresh burgers, all beef, a nice 80/20 mix of decent quality, medium rare, fresh toppings, and a good bun. That's not too much to ask right ?
Where to buy a pickling crock (SEA)?
Check this place out. They have lots of different sizes and also look like what I've seen used in commerical kitchens. And they also have the really great German stoneware crocks.

Make some sauerkraut, then some pastrami, or corned beef in these. Perfect for anything like that. I want to learn more about kimchi making. Cool stuff !
SEA: Man vs Food
The toppings he had on one of his burgers looked like anheim peppers and some other good things. And I think he had one of the verde burgers as well. Also a good combination.
I love spicy/hot variations of things. I'd probably like it.
Also I think he "threw" the omlet challenge. He was cruising along just fine and only had a few bites left. Maybe he didn't want to make it look easier than it is.
Best popcorn at the movies?
Thanks for the tip:) That's probably the best option for places these days. It's orginal, tastes great, and better for you than many alternatives.

Excellent! I'll have to check it out. What constitutes a Lucy has gotten pretty broad and that's good actually. Thanks very much for the tip.
Mr Nelso is correct, in that Lunchbox Laboratory had one on the menu recently but no longer. They mention it on their website. Very interesting place. They let you select the compositoin of the burger and have a great selection of toppings.
When I make them at home, I typically do not do the buy and grind method with brisket or other cuts of meat. I'll just do the 50/50 mix of ground sirloin with ground chuck to get a good fat/moisture ratio. Alton Jame's "Burger of the Gods". One day I'll do brisket when I'm feeling motivated.
Seattle Food Gifts
One of the admin assistants at work bought a large order of cup cakes from trophy and they were amazing ! We have a monthly celebrations for birthdays and we all raved about the quality and the unique variations they provided. Really excellent place :)
Want the best fresh salmon in Seattle?
Thanks for the tip! I've lived mostly in the East and Mid-West, with a short time in Atlanta. West Coast was for vacations and business trips.
Want the best fresh salmon in Seattle?
Thanks for the tip! I'll go just to ride the ferry :) I've promised a zillion people back East fresh fish. Grilling season approaches there.

Equinoise, thanks for the tips. Ok I can see the West Coast East Coast thing. The verde burger does sound good. I often make similar things at home. I'll try Quinns. I like a small choice in the burger 1/4 is fine provided it's decent meat and cooked properly. 1/3 is better with few toppigs like a classic bacon cheese. Choices are good.
SEA: Man vs Food
I think he went a bit over the top reviewing Red Mill. I've found that some of the road food shows on ?Travel Channel and Food Network, seem to feature places that invite them or actually defray the costs of the show. When they did Minneapolis for a few of the food network shows, they featured only new ultra-trendy restaurants who were off the grid for most diners. I strong suspect they paid to be on the show.
Man vs Food is entertaining, but I'm learning to take the recommendations with a big grain of salt.
Looking for Good Burger in Seattle
The Man vs Food episode this week portrayed Red Mill as burger nirvana. After reading the reviews of diners on several sites, it appears that 50% seem to love it and the other half have issues.
They appear to make a mediocre 1/4 lb pattie then dress it with really excellent toppings. Fries and onion rings looked good. Wait time, no seating, cleanliness, difficult parking were all consistent negatives. Several reviewers focused on the burger as being dry, over cooked, under cooked, etc.
So given the mixed reviews, I'll probably pass on the place. They should offer a 1/3 lb option served with fewer toppings for burger purists. They appear to be similar to Red Robijn (1/3 lb burger dressed with a multitude of common toppings) only their burger nears 10.00. But it's a fun place ! LOL
I'm going to check out Two Bells and pass on the Mill.
Best popcorn at the movies?
I'm going to make note of these.
More and more states and cities are trying to eliminate the self-serve machines found near the concession areas. The synthetic butter alternative are apparently extremely unhealthy and the way they are presented encourage people to use way more than they should.
The debate is well intended but on some level too much Big Brother. They should have to warn people and tet them choose, rather than ban it. Same with trans-fats and other attempts at legislating the content of what we eat.
Next they'll be after Landmark for serving real butter.

Lot's of great advice here. I'm going to buy for me and also ship some. Who is good for shipping crab? I have lots of crabholic friends in other cities.
I'll trade crab for Chicago Deep Dish :)
New To SEA Want Good Seafood Without Being A Tourist
When the weather improves I'm going to have to take some Saturdays and just walk around downtown and see the sights. You always see and remember more on foot it seems. Thanks for the advice.
New To SEA Want Good Seafood Without Being A Tourist
Yes my company encourages us to commute using mass transit. They pay us infact rather than drive as they have several confined campuses around town. So they run shuttles so we can go to meeting and a few places around town for errands and lunch. They are good to us :)
Red Line Burger (Great burgers in Lynnwood)
It's close to me as well. I'll have to try it.
SEA - Favorite Diners?
I'll add both of those to the list. I love Greek. And I love to make. I'm going to visit Voula's after seeing it on the show. Is it OK or touristy?
Thanks for the tips !
SEA - Favorite Diners?
That sounds great actually. Catfish is excellent, particularly prepared in southern modes. Cajun particularly. He had a place on his show recently that served Carp as their specialty. That was a bit scary but probably would be OK if handled properly. Thanks for the tip !

That's cool. Matts Bar in Minneapolois (another Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dive's feature) actually had some liability problems with diners eating them before they are cool. Hence the "Fear the cheese" sign on the wall. Getting melted cheddar on your face if very hot doesn't feel good. Thanks for the tip :)
