Thanks for your suggestions! Yes Basta is great as well as Locale, there seem to be lots of new pizza places opening here but I still miss the plain slices at Rutgers and nyc! :-)

i wish i could do Urasawa but unfortunately my budget is more around 300 total for the two of them. Mom doesn't drink and Dad will do a couple beers or sake/soju...I will look into Providence as well as the best sushi for the budget I have. Thanks for your reply!

Hi All!

Sending a cry for help from Boulder CO. I grew up in the Valley and haven't been back since 2003 when I left for Jersey. I need some help pinpointing a great restaurant to send my parents a gift card for a blow out dinner in the Christmas spirit.

Background on my parents- they are the most generous and self-less people I have ever known. They are Korean and love sushi and seafood. They generally tend to stay within the Asian cuisines but I think they would be open to try something different. My dad especially is an adventurous eater and loves to try new things and all offal. They love uni as do i!

Can you please suggest places you think they would like? I want them to have a truly unforgettable meal. If I can provide some more details, please let me know!

Thanks all for reading this and thank you in advance for your help!!!+

Beer / liquor combinations

the college summer drink of choice was Corona (light) topped off with Bacardi Limon...I don't know if I would drink this now but it did the trick back then and it was moderately tasty :-)

Hi, my name is _______ and I'm addicted to ________ .(food only please!)

dungeness crab, lobster, sashimi anything

Newport - formerly Heaven Star

Newport - formerly Heaven Star

Does anyone know if they have closed? I was there a couple weekends ago and it wasn't opened. Didn't have time to take a look on the note on the door so I'm wondering if anyone has been recently?

Thanks!

Chains That Are EAsy to Love

Vegan/Vegetarians: What to eat when feeling under the weather???

that's a great idea!

thanks for all the replies so far :-)

Vegan/Vegetarians: What to eat when feeling under the weather???

I know chicken noodle soup is out, or a steaming bowl of pho which would be my pick...

I found myself dating a vegetarian who has many friends/family that are vegan. Whenever someone is sick or just needs a curative and restoring meal I find myself struggling with what to make. I have done lentil/mushroom soups before and i know soups will probably be the common theme..

So now I'm curious as to what fellow vegetarian or vegan hounds make when they are sick?

Thanks!

Chains That Are EAsy to Love

i'm surprised no one has mentioned garbanzos. i love being able to get so many different flavors on one plate. i tried them for the first time 6 months ago and have been hooked ever since!

Hi Portland!

My vegetarian boyfriend and I will be flying into PDX tomorrow morning from Boulder, CO. We will be traveling to Albany and then will be spending Sunday in Bend, flying back Monday evening.

Looking for places to eat in Portland that are unique to the area while also catering to a vegetarian and omnivore. I would love to find a place with offal (clyde common/le pigeon?) but that also has vegetarian options. Love sushi and asian as well... We were leaning towards toro bravo for lunch but just wanted to throw ourselves in your hands to experience the best of your city.

Any and all suggestions would be so very much appreciated... Thanks in advance!!

Foods that make you happy

Do you have a specific recipe you use?

Black Pudding in Denver area

i've tried the Snug on Colfax (and Marion) for their Irish breakfast. I highly recommend this. I believe it's offered only their brunch menu on Sat/Sun.

Making New Friends When Dining

thank you so much for sharing your story. i was deeply touched by it

Your favorite store bought eggs?

I love love love eggs, especially the intense orange yolks. What brand of eggs are your go-to and why? I don't really have a favorite brand, mostly go organic when possible. Looking for some recommendations and curious to see which brand people buy...

Special Thanksgiving Help Needed Please!

Hi All,

I've been doing some research on the board about Thanksgiving and all since this is my absolute favorite cooking holiday...Was disappointed when i agreed to a trip to Moab since it would be during tday weekend but now we have decided we have to do a traditional thanksgiving...while camping out in canyonland.

The plan is to make everything but the turkey beforehand. This means I am going to make all the sides, pack them in tupperware or other containers and put them in the cooler to bring with...

One other obstacle is that of the five of us going, one is a vegetarian that does not eat eggs (and of course meat) but does eat dairy. He's bringing along a fieldroast but i would appreciate your favorite thanksgiving vegetarian recipes.

So far I will most certainly be making Ina's creamed spinach. I want to make GBC, mashed potatoes or some other potato dish...

Any tips, advice, tried and true recipes or ideas would be very much appreciated!!!

I know there are countless threads on make-ahead tday dishes...any input is welcome! thanks all :-)

Korean in Aurora

i've been to pretty much all of them- for BBQ i prefer Seoul BBQ, stews and other korean traditional dishes i prefer Silla. Both have a good assortment of banchan.

Went to Sae Jong Kwan last night and felt the food was incredibly salty. I'm korean and love spice and salt but the salt in the food was over the top
.
Boulder's Korean House is awful. Really lacking in effort. I liked the Aurora Korea House for BBQ but still would give Seoul BBQ the edge...

Moving To Denver Next Year...

i just went yesterday; took my parents that were in town visiting from CA. i was telling them how much everyone said Snooze was amazing, lines out the door on and one. we all left very disappointed. mom had the pancake flight, i had the salmon hash and dad had the 3 eggs w. hash and bacon. my dish and my dad's dish were incredibly salty...we all agreed it did not match the praise nor the prices...
