Best BBQ in LA?

I need a new burrito in my life. Any suggestions?

Since you mention Sharkey's, Baja Fresh and Poquito Mas, and no one else has mentioned it, may I suggest you try Chipotle? I think, like the others, it is a small chain and the one I'm familliar with is in Woodland Hills on the NE corner of Topanga and Ventura

Shrimp Fra Diavolo

WOW!!! For $32 a pop I'd expect each shrimp to have pedigree papers

Gio Cucina

Best Italian I've had in a long time. Anybody have a bad experience here?

scrapple

I tried the one at Ralph's and found it too bland. I expected something with more taste and spicier.

Someone explain The Fascination with Tommy's and Pinks?

You're right about the price; and the darn thing weighs a ton and can get as messy as Tommies. The problem with both of them is that the melted cheese and chili makes everything slide out from between the bun and onto the wrapping.

Old L.A.- Where would Bogie eat?

I'm sure he would (and probably did) eat at Nickodell"s on Melrose sandwiched between a couple of major studios.

Surprisingly, nobody mentions Fatburger. Their double king (char-broiled and on the rare side by request) with cheese, onion, mayo and a slightly better chili than Tommy's is as good as junk food gets. Tommy's and In-&-Out tie for 2nd place. Never had Pinks.

the Oyster Bar in Studio City

Actually I've made a mistake. It's called the "Oyster House Saloon", not Oyster Bar

Sounds like it's exactly my kind of place. Thanks

Cafe Bizou Dinner

There aren't too many places around that have Sweetbreads on the menu so when I saw that on the appetizer list, I asked for an entree portion. They were good but a bit too bland and not exceptional.

Healthy Lunch - N. Hollywood/Studio City

YES!!! Thank you, It is Salads Galore. It's good but a little too healthy for me. Much prefer Chile My Soul

Healthy Lunch - N. Hollywood/Studio City

I wish I could remember the name of the place. Maybe somebody else knows. They're located on the NE corner of Balboa and Ventura in Encino (just a few doors away from the not-so-healthy Chile My Soul) and they specialize in healthy salads / sandwiches.

No Ho Yum Yum spots? BESIDES Wat Thai?

I don't know about dinner but, for a really 'stuffed' feeling at lunch try Nanay Gloria's Kitchen, a small Philippino place on the NE corner of Sherman Way and Coldwater. For about $4 and change you get a huge styro tray of white rice and your choice of 2 meat dishes. Their skewered pork or chicken is superb but sells out fast.

Thai food in Sherman Oaks

You might want to try Sri Siam on the N.E. corner of Vanowen and Coldwater. I haven't been there in a few years but the food was excellent then.

There is one place here in the valley that I pass every day. They advertise Cemitas Poblano and the picture shows what looks like a hamburger, which is why I asked.

Looking for quality chinese food?

I think I can see your point re: Mongolian Beef. I can picture the bottome of the tray in my mind. I've been going there for years and know Jimmy, the owner. I'll mention it to him the next time I see him. He's usually in the WLA location.
There was/is a restaurant in LA called the Mandarin Cove. They had 2 superb oyster dishes I can't find anywhere else. One was sizzling black pepper oysters and the other was with ginger and green onion.

Interesting comment. What specific dishes are you talking about that taste oily? Now that you mention it, I can see where the Lo Mein might fit that description .
While we're on the subject, do you know any Chinese place in the SF valley that has oysters on the menu?

Good "chowish" spots in Studio City/Sherman Oaks/Encino?

Try Cafe Bizou for French cuisine. It's on Ventura just east of Hazeltine; across from Ralphs

I don't think there's a Whole Foods nearby. This is between Laurel Canyon and Colfax. Definitely not American style. I just wish they would do some oyster dishes

You can't go wrong at the Kung Pao China Bistro on Santa Monica Blvd in W, Hollywood.
I've been going to the one in Studio City for years. They just added some new dishes I'll try tonight.
