Searching for good spot near fisherman's wharf

My wife and I recently moved to SF and our family is coming down upon us and booked into the Fisherman's wharf (not the ideal area) and would like to go to a restaurant within walking distance. Being a bit of a snob I was hoping to avoid the Bubba Gump fish company, any thoughts on good nearby spots? Also, my sister is bringing her 3 year-old son so kid friendly is preferred.

Dishes that wowed you

There is foie gras soup dumplings and a miso sea bass at Annisa that I dream about. Frequently. Damn, now I'm hungry again.

UWS Brunch btw 80th St and 110th St?

good enough to eat, best brunch on UWS
Nice Matin a little more upscale, does brunch very well.

Fiamma

Like jacket required formal?

Fiamma

So Bruni gave it 3 stars and one of the most glowing reviews in awhile so I thought perfect place to take my wife on her birthday. Now I'm starting to wonder.... has anybody besides Frank been there, and if so, any thoughts?

Ready to call in my reservation, Blue Hill? Babbo?, I really need help deciding as I can enjoy both styles of food. Tell me which way you would go. Dinner is for my wife and I.

Love Blue Hill - especially at Harvest time!!! The tasting menu there is really quite special.

New YorkGastropubs

Inn at Little W12 is also not very good. Food was "okay" service was terrible. Much better food is available.

2nd year Anniversary/Leaving New York Dinner

It seems like the more reading I am doing here the less people are impressed with Daniel, so let me throw 1 more into the mix - Bouley. thoughts?

Mexican Shopping in Manhattan

For imports, check out Bright Food Shop in Chelsea.

Anyone Know SAPA

Had some amazing ribs there. But it was certainly past it's prime.

2nd year Anniversary/Leaving New York Dinner

Having lived and loved and ate well in New York for the past 7 years my wife and I are looking to celebrate our anniversary and say goodbye to NYC for SF with a great dinner. Having never done Boulud or Bitali which of the two chefs should we try and which restaurant of the many? I was leaning towards Daniel, my wife has always wanted to try Babbo.

Tapas-Style Wine Bar

Ooh...yeah. Small Italian, no reservations...I like. Any ideas on the West Side?

Good meal near Museum of Natural History

telepan- on w69th street so a little south but the best food on UWS
Ocean Grill - always good for Seafood

Tapas-Style Wine Bar

The wife and I are craving a nice wine bar with small plates. Something on the intimate side that we won't need reservations for. Any thoughts? I know this is a big deal giving up the neighborhood joints, but please help!

Group dinner in Village/Soho

Crispo has a great big table at the back of the patio.

Lunch near Bloomies in Soho?

Always a big fan of Savoy at 70 prince street.

A Plea for Sushi Restaurant

A just wanted to put this out there. Awhile ago my wife and I went to dinner at Sachiko's on Clinton, a great sushi joint on the LES. We had just an incredible time. However, while we were there it seemed quite deserted and on our way out the owner half-pled to have us tell our friends about it. The food was tasty and very innovative, the décor was sparse and modern. I had this Unagi Ravioli that was just heavenly. All in all it was a stellar dining experience and I would hate to see this place lost. If you’re in the mood for new sushi please check it out.

"00" flour in Manhattan?

I found it at a store in the "real" little Italy -> Arthur Ave in the Bronx.

Stressing over perfect meal/ambiance

If you're doing something a little more intimate Annisa really is a great bet. In the heart of the W Village. The tasting menu is spectacular. The space is modern and warm and the staff are cleary as excited about the food but aren't pushy at all. It's my fav in the city.

casual meet the parents dinner

I used to love Crispo, in fact my wife and I organized a huge dinner there in the summer of 2004. That being said, my past few meals there have been totally disapointing. In your original post you requested Tapas and Alta in the W Village is great, tough maybe a touch loud. See if you can be in the private area upstairs.
