Macaroni Grill - What is the appeal????
You are confusing Brinker International with Macaroni Grill. We can applaud Brinker's charitable contributions (which is often outstanding) while disliking the Macaroni Grill.
Best burger in N. Dallas: Keller's or Jake's
I am right there with you slewfoot. I lived in the Bay Area until the Dot Bomb bust. In-N-Out was good but I wouldn't put it in my top five.
If we're talking about burgers in Dallas I immediately think of Chips.
Best Sandwich in Dallas
Plus one for Mr. G's. It's packed at lunch and closes around eight at night. They are pretty proud of their Zagat's mention as well.
Where is a good independent meat market in Dallas?
If you're going to Plano to try Hirch's (which I also recommed), try Ye Olde Butcher Shoppe, it's on 15th, East of 75 about five blocks. I like Sprouts as well, the selection can be limited but I've liked just about everything I've had there.
DFW - Salvadoran Restaurants - DFW
El Salvadoreno in McKinney is really good. Take 75 to Hwy 5 and go east. It's in an old converted house in the old converted part of town. They don't have a website and while I've seen a phone in the place I'm not sure it works. GuideLive had a review for them but it's been a while, you might look there for more specific directions.
Macaroni Grill - What is the appeal????
I feel your pain dicey. I live just north of Dallas, home of all the Brinker concepts you've heard of and some you haven't (Cozymel's, Spageddies, Eatzi's anyone?).
If you want your family to go someplace else, you might mention the nutritional information of their favorite RMG items. For example:
Macaroni Grill Spaghetti and Meatballs with Meat Sauce 2,430 calories
128 g fat 207 g carbs 5,290 mg sodium
Brick-Oven Meatball Sandwich, ,1890 calories 115g fat 149 g carbs 4660 mg sodium
Carmela's Chicken Rigatoni, 1310 calories 85g fat 149 g carbs 1540 mg sodium
Those are three items I picked randomly. Do a search for Macaroni Grill nutritional information and you'll be able to find any entree you want.
As for suggestions, you don't mention where you live but Johnny Carino's isn't a bad alternative.
