So, Wise Sons Deli is open ... who's been? Beauty's Bagels? [San Francisco]
This.... it's true.
Guacamole - Bitter!?
I don't know. I've never had a problem with it coming out bitter. I would taste the avocado and make sure it's to your liking and then use only fresh ingredients and I'm pretty sure it won't come out bitter.
New Whole Foods, what should I buy?
I shop at Whole Foods mostly for gourmet or specialty items. They usually have a great cheese section, the fresh olive bar is nice, house-made sausages are good (and they're a pretty good value). Like another poster mentioned I think the house brand (365) is usually high quality and a good value. You have to be selective, I get my staples elsewhere (Trader Joe's) and go to Whole Foods for the high end products.
so it's a chain, get over it [moved from Chains board]
I agree with your basic premise here (although sometimes I'm not sure exactly what it is) but I don't really see the point of your post. A rant like this doesn't really contribute much to the discussion.
Guacamole - Bitter!?
I have to agree with hillfood, there's just too much going on. Guacamole is simple. Avocados are the star here, preferably nice ripe, organic ones (I find organic to be creamier). I usually add lime, a little bit of nice ripe tomato, red onion, fresh chopped cilantro and salt... sometimes a bit of garlic and usually some jalapeno. I've never heard of worcesterchire in guacamole.
slicing a turkey while it's still frozen--how can I do it?
I think you would be better off cooking the whole thing and then freezing the leftovers in tightly sealed individual packets.
Jack-in-the-Box Tacos -- 50 years of skid-marked cardboard
I love them. They're a special kind of wonderful.
What to do with leftover ribeyes
It's already been said but Philly Cheesesteaks or slice and serve over a salad.
Tipping at places with counter service
Well put, I agree. When I'm weighing how much to tip I always consider that the money will mean more to them (because if everyone leaves a nice tip it adds up) than keeping an extra 50 cents or dollar or whatever amount I'm fretting over.
Tipping at places with counter service
I don't know why people feel inclined to be rude when they respond to questions like this. I think the OP wants to know whether it's normal to leave a tip in this situation and why. Why does it need to be seen as an attempt to justify not leaving a tip?
To answer the question, yes I would leave a small tip in this situation. It would be less than the typical 20% for table service but a smaller tip because as another poster mentioned, someone is going to clean your table and wash the dishes (assuming the food comes on a real dish). If my meal is less than $10, I would probably leave around a dollar.
Trade Joe's Pine Nuts
I've used them numerous times over the years and I've never gotten pine mouth from them (and I'd never even heard of that until now). Mostly I've used them in pesto and I usually toast them but I've eaten them plain too. They're not the most amazing pine nuts in the world but I think they're just fine.
Rib Tips (Not about advice for cooking ribs)
Yeah, they're fairly common from what I can tell. Several places in the SF bay area serve them.
BEST BBQ IN SAN FRANCISCO
The best BBQ in San Francisco can be found somewhere in Texas. Memphis Minnie's is pretty much the best we've got.
What to take for friends in San Francisco
I live in SF. If you were visiting me I'd ask you to bring me a whole pastrami from Katz's.
In dire need of an East Coast Jewish Deli!
There's also Moishe's Pippic in Hayes valley, nice thinly sliced hot pastrami but as Robert said don't get your hopes up. I've been to all the places on the list (not Wood Tavern) he mentions and none of them really compare to the real deal which for me is at Katz in NYC.
FWIW I did like Saul's when they were using Niman Ranch but I've heard they are now making their own and it's not as good.
Please report back on what you try.

I agree with David. I had the pastrami sandwich (only once mind you) and it was good but something was lacking. It was a good sandwich but it didn't wow me, the pastrami needed more flavor. I'll have to give them another try.
Tommy's Joynt: One I can check off the list [San Francisco]
I think the pastrami sandwich is pretty good... and at $5 it's a really great deal. I don't think Tommy's is the kinda place that's supposed to blow your mind, it's just good solid food in a fun atmosphere.

tried & true jambalaya recipe?
You could have left out the part where you called it an abomination. I get it, it's part of the tradition. I really didn't use any terms to describe this dish, I linked to a recipe that I said I alter to my preferences.
Where to eat in SF, any style of cuisine on a moderate budget
I thought it was easier. Kudos to you for giving it a try. Best of luck.

You might consider editing the title of your post to more specifically indicate what you're looking for or many might just skip it and it will help others in the future who are searching for the same thing.
What do you think about double dipping?
I agree with you there, it's important to respect others wishes and it would be rude to just dismiss them.
What do you think about double dipping?
I respect your opinion but do you really think double dipping is unsafe?
What do you think about double dipping?
What do I think?
I can't believe that we waste time and energy thinking and worrying about something so insignificant and harmless as double dipping. I can't imagine that anyone has ever been harmed from it and I think it's silly how germa-phobic people are in this country.
Do bulk bins every get cleaned?
I worked in a health food store for 5 years and never saw any of those things. We had a regular cleaning schedule for the bins, we cleaned the scoops every night and we rotated the stock every time they were filled.
The worst thing I ever saw was the occasional poaching of the bins by grazers.... like myself and the other employees.
Why is there no good BBQ in the South Bay?
If you're willing to go to San Mateo Windy City Pizza & Barbecue is quite good. Their best items are probably the rib tips and the pork ribs. I've also had the beef brisket and beef ribs which are also good. Their sauce is not amazing, it's a little too sweet for my taste but the barbecue is definitely worth a try.

Whole Foods vs Trader Joes.....
Trader Joe's is expensive? They're known as a bargain grocery store.
