Settimio al Pelligrino and more from Rome

Sounds delicious! I looked up Osteria al Pistoia and it looks like the one that you went to is their new, second location.

Have a fantastic rest of your journey! Can't wait to read more.

Rome - Museo-Atelier Canova Tadolini

Thanks Maureen. It certainly does look like a beautiful place to enjoy lunch.

Suggestions for a modest group lunch in Rome, August 29th?

FYI - Open Colonna may be closed in August. On the website states "Closed in August" though doesn't specify dates.

Saltimbocca alla romana near the Pantheon/Piazza Navona?

Thank you for the recommendation. I think that Armando al Pantheon may be closed during August. It is too early to find out what exact places will be open during our stay - but I fear that many on my list will be closed.

Harbord Room

We were there for our first time a few weeks back. Both guys in the group had the burger and both declared it in the top ten that they had ever had.

My halibut was good - not great.

Have to say that the service that we had was excellent.

I like the room too. Small, cozy and PINK!

Rome - Museo-Atelier Canova Tadolini

This place has now been written up in 2 magazines that I have seen in 2 days (Virtuoso + Travel and Leisure (June 2012)).

When I looked at the website they seem to have both a cafe and a restaurant. Wondering if anyone has been to either and can comment. The setting looks fabulous - just wondering how the dining compares.

Thanks.

Olive oil tasting farm/tour in Florence

Not sure if it is reachable without a car but if you are into cheese as well as olive oil this place looks terrific: http://corzanoepaterno.com/

Saltimbocca alla romana near the Pantheon/Piazza Navona?

This is my favourite dish and I often make it at home with chicken, not veal. I would love a recommendation on where to have a great traditional saltimbocca when I am in Rome.

Doesn't necessarily have to be in this area, but it is where we are staying in August.

Thanks.

Lunch in Venice

We will be there at the end of August on a Saturday, Sunday and Monday as a family of four. Would love recommendations for:

Saturday lunch in Santa Croce;

Sunday lunch near Peggy Guggenheim;

Monday lunch somewhere between San Marco + Rialto Bridge.

Thanks very much.

Lunch in Rome

Hello,

I would love some recommendations for lunches for a family of 4 (moderately priced at 15 E ISH per person) in the following locations as we tour the city:

In Trastevere near Piazza Santa Maria;

Near the Colosseum (would love Asino D'Oro but they are closed most of August when we are there);

Near Piazza Venezia;

Near Spanish Steps.

Thnks so much.

Summer dinners in Santa Croce VENICE

We can go to other areas of course, but I just thought somewhere within walking distance would be better with my children. Our hotel is close to the San Stae vaporetto stop.

We would like to stay within between 80 E and 120 E for most meals if possible, with one splurge I suppose at 150 E tops. I am the only one that enjoys alcoholic drinks :) We are there for 3 nights.

Thanks PBSF.

Was also looking at La Bitta. Any comments for that one?

VENICE - Lunch / Dinner open on Sunday? In S. Croce?

Hi pusherman,

I posted about dinners in the Santa Croce area just after you posted this message.

Open on Sunday:
Al Nono Risorto
Il Refolo - pizzeria on a nice Campo
Antico Giardinetto - www.anticogiardinetto.it

Summer dinners in Santa Croce VENICE

No, pusherman (last post from today) and I didn't get together to bombard you with S Croce questions - it is a total coincidence!

I will be travelling with my family to Venice for a few nights at the end of August. We will be dining at La Zucca for sure (friends have told me that it is their favourite), probably on the night we arrive, which is a Satruday. I have the following list so any comments would be appreciated. We eat everything, and with 4 of us do not want anything too expensive.

▪ Antiche Carampane, Rio Tera della Carampane (Tues.-Sat.), www.antichecarampane.com.
▪Al Nono Risorto, Campo San Cassiano, Sottoportego della Scora Beltena, Vaporetto: San Silvestro (Closed Wed.).
▪ Il Refolo, Campiello del Piovan 1459 (Closed all Mon. & Tues. lunch).
▪ Osteria Mocenigo da Guido e Luca, Santa Croce, Salizada San Stae 30135, Vaporetto: San Stae.

(PS - Pusherman Al Nono Risorto is open Sunday)

Thanks.

Best midtown croque monsieur for lunch tomorrow?

Was going to head out to Coquine but because of the snow we ended up at a pizza place within walking distance. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I am writing them all down for future use.

Best midtown croque monsieur for lunch tomorrow?

This is my son's favourite and I want to take him for lunch. Didier actually has one on his Winterlicious menu (okay - it is a croque madame - with the egg). Any other suggestions?

Union on Ossington - Who's been lately?

I have been twice in the past couple months - both times for Sunday brunch. The first time it was outstanding - short rib eggs benny - yum. The second time not as great but still pretty darn good!
Check the website because I think that they have some special evening "deals" - Sunday night prix fixe option and 1/2 price wines Monday.

Tuscany stop for cheese near San Casciano - Corzano e Paterno

Has anyone been here to Corzano e Parterno? Looks really interesting.

Trastevere Restaurants

Thanks. It is off the list.

Trastevere Restaurants

Great responses. Thank you all. I have also been reading about some other places in the area - "Tony's" (aka Hostaria del Moro) and lots about dar Poeta.

I am going to make my own list and toss the wikitravel one!

Trastevere Restaurants

I have copied the list below from Wikitravel, which I have never used before. Any comments on any of the places is welcome.

We will be staying as a family this summer in Trastevere and would like to stay in that area most nights for dinner.

I think that I have 2 issues really:

1. we will be there in August and I have heard that especially in this area, things tend to close for a couple of weeks,

2. I am travelling with 2 kids - good eaters but but still kids. For example, I don't think that I saw anything on the Glass menu that would really appreal to both of them.

Here's the list:

Augusto, Piazza de' Renzi, 15, ☎ +39 6 580 3798. from 8PM. A small osteria in the heart of Trastevere. Authentic non-touristic Roman restaurant serving classic Roman dishes, hand-made desserts and wine. It's a good idea to phone ahead to see if they have room because this small place fills up fast every night, although if you don't mind waiting they'll squeeze you in if they can. edit

Fior di luna, Via della Lungaretta, 96, ☎ +39 6 6456 1314, [3]. Very good ice cream and made from Fair Trade products by an ice cream artist with a passion for taste. edit

Glass Hostaria, Vicolo del Cinque 58 (Trastevere), ☎ +39 6 5833 5903

(mailto:infoglass@libero.it, fax: +39 6 5834 9666), [4]. Tue-Sat 8-11PM; closed 21 Jan 21-6 Feb. Uber-modern trattoria. €30-50. edit

Il Conte Tacchia, Vicolo del Bologna 87, ☎ +39 6 581 3189. Roman cuisine at dinner. edit

Ivo a Trastevere, via di S. Francesco a Ripa 158 (a short walk from Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere), ☎ +39 6 581 7082. Get here early if you want a table without a wait. Very popular pizzeria that attracts lengthy queues of young Romans, so it must be good. edit

La Fraschetta, Via San Francisco a Ripa (close to Viale Trastevere), [5]. Reputed to have the best gnocchi in the city, but it's only offered on Thursday nights. They offer 4 different sauces with gnocchi, and if you like cheese the best bet is gorgonzola. If you want to go on a Thursday, go early because by 9PM, the normal time to arrive at a restaurant in Rome, it will be packed. Opens at 7PM. edit

Osteria dell'Aquila, Via Natale del Grande 52/53 (take the H bus to Trastevere), ☎ +39 6 5810924 (fax: +39 6 581 0924). We-Mo. Mediterranean style restaurant. Menu is in Italian and English, and the waiters speak both languages. Open for lunch and dinner. The meals here are excellent and at very good prices. Make sure to try the seafood appetizers. edit

Osteria der Belli, (very close to Piazza Santa Maria). Run by four brothers from Sardinia. Particularly recommended for its seafood dishes. edit

Pizzeria Nick & Tony, Via di San Francesco a Ripa 21. Open everyday. Great little pizzeria run by 2 friendly Neapolitan brothers. You can get a big slice and a huge ice cold beer for €5. The place gets full of locals. That should tell you everything. get there quite early as in the evening they have a few pizzas left, most popular time is around lunch and after school. Also note that the street Via di San Francesco a Ripa has a strange numbering system - odd and even numbers are on the same side of the street so no 21 will be between 20 and 22. €5 for a pizza. (41.8876461386,12.4715269483) edit

Planet Kebab, Via Natale del Grande, 17, ☎ +39 6 581 9863. Good Turkish food, from Kebab to Falafel. This place is very clean, and the guys working there are very friendly. They claim to be open every day of the year. edit

Ristorante Asinocotto, Via dei Vascellari 48, ☎ +39 6 589 8985, [6]. Lunch Tu-Sa noon-2:30PM, dinner Tu-Su 7:30PM-11:30PM. Home made pasta and the owners also have a farm in Tuscany which provides lots of fresh produce.Their selection of goat cheeses is good. Chef is Giuliano Brenna. They are open both lunch and dinner. Their wine bar has a selection of over 300 wines, spirits, and drinks to choose from. They're open from 8PM-11PM so a perfect place to go for a relaxing after dinner drink before heading to one of the many bars in Trastevere or clubs throughout the city. Appetizers €11-12 , pasta €13-14, main course €16-23, desserts €8. edit

San Calistus, Via San Francesco a Ripa, 9 (Close to Piazza Santa Maria). One of the best pizzerias in all of Rome. edit

Taverna Mercanti, (near the church of Santa Cecilia). On the other side of Viale Trastevere from most of the other restaurants. Hard to find but well worth it for perhaps the best dining experience in Rome. In the summer months you can sit outdoors. Inside it resembles a hugely atmospheric medieval barn. Pizza is the best choice here though there are other options. edit

Tony's, Via della Cinque (near Piazza Trilussa (off the Lungotevere, near the Ponte Sisto)). On a beautiful old Roman laneway with indoor and outdoor seating. One of the best lasagne in the city as well as plenty of pasta, meat and seafood options. Risotto alla pescatora (seafood risotto) is delicious; ask for it if it's not on the menu. edit

Trattoria de Gli Amici, Piazza Sant'Egidio 8, ☎ +39 6 580 6033. Closed on Sunday. Open from 7:30PM to 11:30PM. Very interesting place in the heart of Trastevere district. Run by very kind handicapped people, it has nice cuisine. edit

Vincenzo alla Lungaretta, Via della Lungaretta, 170/173, ☎ +39 6 580 0345. Out of the way. Great food and great service and a very reasonable price. edit

Vivi Bistrot, Via Vitellia, 102 (In the Villa Pamphili park), ☎ +39 6 582 7540, [7]. Suitable for children as well. Useful for arranging a picnic in the park. edit

Enacoteca Ferrara, Piazza Trilussa 41. edit

Vizi Capitali (Deadly Sins), Via della Renella 94. edit

Sora Lella, Via di Ponte Quattro Capi 16 (on Isola Tiberina), ☎ 066861601, [8]. closed Sun, Tue morning and 2 weeks in August. 44 to 58 E. edit

A'Ciaramira, Via Natale del Grande 41, ☎ 065881670, [9]. closed Sun, 1 Week in August. 47 to 72 €. edit

Corsetti-Il Galeone, Piazza San Cosimato 27, ☎ 065816311, [10]. closed Sun. 47 to 72 €. edit

Sala di Tè Trasté, Via della Lungaretta 76, ☎ 065894430. 5pm to 2am. for tea and cakes edit

Thanks very much.

Early Sunday breakfast Midtown East

We will be heading back home for a long 9 hour drive on an August Sunday morning. We would like to have breakfast before we leave, hopefully at a restaurant not in a hotel. We will be around 50th and Madision. Thanks.

Suggestions for family in for an August visit

Regarding Stanton, the kids are 10 and 14 and my older one would probably love the "scene". I heard that the french onion soup dumplings are great. I made a reservation here for the Friday night but on the earlier side so probably not too scene-y then.

Also for Saturday lunch I booked Rubirosa.

Thanks for the help.

Sunday brunch LES or Soho

Eggs benedict. Perfectly cooked. The kids had bacon and eggs. Delicious bacon. And the mimosas of course!

Sunday brunch LES or Soho

Did Les Pescadeux. It was great. Especially the mimosas:) The owner came by to say hello and had a great conversation with the boys about sports. Very nice man,

Foodies dining with 7 year old plus need some recs

For what it is worth I took 2 young boys to Marseille in April (pre-theatre) and it was....awful. The steak frites was overdone and tough. The mussels were inedible. I know that it seems to be a favourite here but there have got to be better choices in the theatre district.

Suggestions for family in for an August visit

Hi all,

Heading to the city from Toronto for a weekend. We have reservations for a pre-theatre dinner at 5 Napkin Burger on 9th on the Saturday evening, and plan to do Shake Shack on the Friday for lunch (anyone sensing a theme here....?!) Other than those 2 we are looking for:

Dinner Friday eve:
I have never taken the kids to Little Italy so was thinking maybe Rubirosa (looks amazing) or La Mela (looks less amazing but sort of old-style). Thoughts or suggestions? Was also thinking Stanton Social - not Little Italy I know.

Saturday lunch:
We are going to do the MOMA Saturday morning and then head to Soho/Village. Any thoughts for a brunch either uptown before we head to Soho or in Soho? We are open as to food, other than Indian. Balaboosta looks great but maybe too adventurous for the kids, and I have had the pleasure of taking my daughter to Balthazar once before, so something different would be great.

Thanks

Huntsville 2011 - Anything new?

Going tomorrow. Someone just mentioned to me that they think that Tasty Creem has re-opened. Does anyone here know if this is true? Home of the King Ferdie hot dog?

meh

I miss Herbs too. The last that I heard Tony Nuth (the excellent original owner/chef of Herbs) is at the Granite Club golf course in Stouffville.
