How long do cooked sweet potatoes last?

I love sweet potatoes but they take a while to cook. Was hoping I could put 4-5 in the microwave Sunday night and then keep them in the fridge for the week to have for snack, dinner or bring to work. How long will they last in the fridge after being cooked without piercing the skin. Would it help to wrap them in paper towel or tin foil? Thanks

Escolar

Escolar is also used in Japanese restaurants as Super White Tuna sashimi or nigiri. I love the stuff and have never had the gas problems, but know other who have and restaurants who have stopped using it because of the issue.

has anyone tried 'Wonder Butter' or 'Better N' Peanut Butter'? Would you consider it a healthy version of Nutella?

Farm Fresh Restaurant Suggestions

Yeah we actually already had a reservation in place at Mado for Friday but wanted to see if there were other recommendations. Good suggestions- Lula, Perennial and Province would all be great but think it makes sense to stay with Mado.

Does all tea stain teeth?

I drink coffee, green tea and other herbal teas periodically and know that they stain your teeth but recently i've been drinking like 3-4 cups of Stash lemon ginger caffeine free herbal tea and don't see anything in ingredients that looks like it would stain teeth: ginger root, lemongrass, lemon flavor, safflower, hibiscus and citric acid. Can't help but think 3-4 cups might be too much and can't be good in some way or the other, am I over analyzing things?

Freezing waffle batter

You're right that just making more would be cheap and easy and make better quality waffles but the reason i'm asking is that I am going to be bringing the batter along on a vacation where I would not have ability to mix batter and easier to bring pre-made then all ingredients. I know I will be sacrificing some quality but my main questions are with will it at least work and are there any other overlooked negatives. Thanks

Freezing waffle batter

Are there any issues with freezing waffle batter? How long can you freeze it and still have it be ok and any specific strategy for thawing? Thanks

Chia Seeds?

I just ordered a package of chia seeds because they sounded interesting and have some strong health benefits. I am looking for ideas on how to use them. I've read about making a chia seed gel, if you mix them with water the expand sort of like tapioca? Has anyone made the gel, how does it taste, what is the process and then what do you use it for.
I intend to use them somewhat like flax seeds- mix in with oatmeal, cottage cheese and fruit, etc. does anyone else eat them this way or other ideas/suggestions?

What is Your Daily Food Routine?

I thought I was the only one who ever at 'Better N' Peanut Butter'- I love the stuff. Do you spread it on your apples, bananas or just spoonful? How else do you eat it? I usually have it before my morning workout but do you feel it keeps you feeling full like PB if you have as a snack or does the added sugar give an insulin spike?

Best way to freeze muffins?

Looking for a way to freeze muffins without having taste stale when I thaw them or from getting freezer burn. I was thinking if there might be good Ziploc freezer bags or containers or anything. Also, how long can they keep in freezer? Thanks

Best meal in Chicago, money no issue?!?!

If you are going to be here in 2 days it's not the money issue that will prevent you from getting the best meal in Chicago it will be the ability to get a reservation. There will be much debate on the best restaurant (which would also depend on your preferences) but many of the names that come up will be Alinea, Charlie Trotter's, Everest, Tru, L20 among others. What style or type of restaurant are you looking for?

Canned pumpkin shortage [moved from Boston board]

I use it many ways but I am also an extremely healthy eater so some uses might not sound too appealing to others. I have it with chicken breast or pork tenderloin mixed up with balsamic vinegar, onion, garlic, evoo and broccoli. I mix it with a bowl of cottage cheese with stevia, cinnamon and nutmeg. Use it to top waffles or mix in the batter with added sweetness, use it to top toast with almond butter.

Searching for Fish

I often get fish at Dirk's for sushi and personally am more of a fan then I am of the Fish Guy and it's more convenient for you coming from Old Town. I've had sashimi tuna, salmon, kona kamepachi, scallops and escolar from Dirks and never had bad experience.

LARGE portion sizes and healthy?

I am not on a 'special diet' but am a very healthy eater and Ironman triathlete so large and healthy meals are what I look for as well when I eat out. Maybe not the exact type of place you are looking for but at Chipotle you can get burrito bowls without the tortilla and get them in very large portions with rice, beans, avocado, corn and salsa- very healthy if you stay away from sour cream, cheese and some of their greasy meat. I also like to go to the salad bar at Whole Foods, can get as much as you want and a ton of good options but price can really add up for a salad. M. Henry in Andersonville has brown rice, steamed veggie bowls and I always love sushi and if you go to Sushi X in Andersonville you can get big bowls of fish, veggies and brown rice. I know there's more but just can't think of off the top of my head.

Fish Sauce???????

Is fish sauce good in chicken dishes or would it basically be like making a chicken dish taste like fish and therefore might as well just eat fish?

Fish Sauce???????

A lot has been posted about fish sauce enhancing dishes if you cook with it but that it has a powerful fishy smell. What about using it as a condiment like adding to stir fry at the table will it still enhance the flavor or will it just be the overwhelming fish taste that people describe before it cooks? Thanks

Best Sushi in Chicago for Bostonian?

My contention is that Katsu has the best sashimi/nigiri fish in the city and Mirai has the best Japenese dishes in the city

Great Lake Pizza

I have not been recently but reports are that they are not handling it too well- it is not their fault and should not be blamed, this has been an unexpected and sudden tidelwave thrown upon a small neighborhood establishment, they are doing the best they can i'm sure.

Need help with a Chicago sushi pick....

I agree with Indie Cafe, did a review on my experience there a couple weeks ago on lthforum. In my opinion it's the best sushi value in Chicago but the quality and selection does not hold up to Katsu or Mirai but at 1/2 the price it's pick your poison.
