Bliss in Matawan

Bliss used to be Bella Sera which was in the same mall. They moved the end of the mall and changed their name. I am not sure why the name change. We used to go quite often but have not been since the change in location.

Anniversary restaurant??

Thanks to Burghfeeder, Augie6 and Joeythec for their help in choosing a place for our anniversary dinner on the 21st. We ended up choosing Hoffstats and a great dinner. The only problem was the cramped tables. The reason for that was that we were seated in the front center of the restaurant and our party of five was not the only party larger than four. All four tables had to have their wings popped up for large party. But since our reservation was for seven the other tables were empty when we were eating our entree. It was not a rushed meal, and the food and wine were excellent. Two of our party had the mussel special which was absolutely delicious. Thanks again for helping out an out of towner.

Anniversary restaurant??

Thanks for the input, but Mighty Oak Barrel is not open on Sunday according to their website.

Anniversary restaurant??

thanks for the suggestion, but it appears they are not open on Sunday.

Anniversary restaurant??

We will be traveling along the PA turnpike and staying overnight next Sunday just off of exit 48 near Oakmont. Since it will be our anniversary we would like to go out for a nice romantic dinner. Since we will be totally unfamiliar with the area I would like some recommendations on where to go. Seafood or Italian would be preferred, as well as a quiet, possibly romantic atmosphere. We will be just off the exit and would be willing to travel no more than twenty minutes to half an hour.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Dino's closed

Does anyone know why Dino's Fishery in Hazlet closed? I passed there the other day and saw a For Sale or Rent sign in front.

Lunch recommendation needed

We are visiting family in Winnetka and would like to meet old friends for lunch on Friday. They live in Carpinteria so we are looking for something along the 101 but closer to us then to them. I guess the area would be from Calabasas to Thousand Oaks. Pub, Italian, American, Continental are all acceptable as we are just looking for a few drinks, some good food and a nice visit with friends.

Thanks in advance.

Stewarts Drive-Ins

Browsed through this whole thread and believe that nobody mentioned the Stewarts on Main Street/Bordentown Ave. in I East Brunswick, just outside of Spotswood.

Need rec for weekday brunch after cemetery sevice

I need a recommendation for a place that has a weekday brunch and can accommodate between 15 and 20 people on short notice following a funeral. The burial will be in East Brunswick so someplace close would be needed. I say brunch because the graveside service should be over just before eleven and it might be too early for lunch. Thanks.

bella sera, matawan

My wife and I went there this evening. As local Italian restaurants go, this was quite good. We shared fried calamari which was tender and sweet. This was followed by a house salad which was not anything special. My wife had the chicken giambotta which she said was excellent and as good as her mother used to make. I had one of the specials veal milano which was equally delicious. We passed on desert and walked down to Carvel for the free ice cream they were giving out. The service at Bella Sera was excellent with our waiter being very attentive and courteous. I would definitely go back.

permitted smoking

My reason for asking is that my wife and I went to lunch at The Inlet Cafe on Friday. As we were finishing our lunch and waiting for the check I got a whiff of cigarette smoke. Glancing around we noticed two women two tables away both smoking. Since we were leaving I didn't have a need to ask if it was allowed, but if it had not been breezy I could see it being bothersome if we had just arrived. As we were leaving I noticed someone in the "outside" bar also smoking. So, naturally I was just curious and tried to find the answer on the internet when we got home.

permitted smoking

Sorry, I mean for NJ

permitted smoking

I have searched the web but can't come up with any complete explanation of the following. Is smoking allowed at restaurant tables that are outside on patios, or at a bar that is "outside" but has a compete roof over it?

Morgan Fishery in South Amboy- a review

I beleve it is actually Cheesequake Creek.

Pirates Cove - Belford - This Year

We went there in October and they were closed on a Friday night. Called the next day and the phone wasn't answered. I hope they open for the summer. We did go in November of '07 on a Saturday night and were the only patrons in the restaurant.

Annapolis suggestions please

We, along with another couple, will be in Annapolis on the 19th and 20th and were wondering if anyone can recommend any restaurants in the moderate price range. It will save me a lot of internet research. Thanks.

Spanish Riviera

Does anyone know what happened to the Spanish Riveira restaurant in Sayreville, on Rte 35, just north of the Morgan bridge? The last two times I rode past it was dark. I had heard some good things about it and was going to give it a try, but I guess I am too late. I do know back in 2006 one of the busboys attacked the owner with a cleaver. Maybe that doomed the place.

Pirates Cove in Belford

After reading about this restaurant my wife and I dined on their deck twice during the late summer and wonderful dinners. Last Friday we decided to take a visiting couple with us to try a dinner indoors. The food didn't disappoint, but we were very surprised that we were the only people in the restaurant while we were there, from 6:45 to 8:30. Do people just go there during the summer to dine on the deck? Or is there some other reason people are staying away? We asked the waitress and she said Saturday is usually there busy night. If Friday was any indication they should only open there doors on Saturday then.

visiting from NJ

We are visiting relatives in the valley and would like to take a day trip down to PCH and Malibu for lunch as a break from them. Looking for a nice place with possible outdoor seating and good food with casual dress code. Thanks in advance.

Need a seafood, steak, and drinks place for Monday night - Middletown, NJ area

Trying to think of a place to help you out. You say Middletown area, and I have never been to this restaurant and don't know anything about it other than it takes the place of Redheads in the Union Square Mall, just north of Red Bank on 35. Seems like a place that is not to upscale, and a place where you can get a little boisterous. Maybe some other posters have some thoughts on it.

Will keep trying to think of other places to suggest.

Indigo Moon or Black Trumpet?

I agree with both replies. We dined at Indigo Moon a couple years ago after hearing great things about it, and also weren't overly impressed. Last winter we ate at Black Trumpet and enjoyed it very much.

Matawan: Restaurants busting out all over...

I was to Bart's about five years ago. The one thing I didn't like about it that I can remember was the positioning of the tables. I recall them being right on top of one another. That also is what turned me off to Doris and Ed's in the Highlands. As for the Poet's Inn, it is okay as a stop gap place to go, but wouldn't recommend it for a special occasion.

Need place for guys dinner out

I need some recommendations for a group of guys who go out to dinner every two months. For the past few times we have been going to JJ Bittings in Woodbridge which is good because we meet at the bar and then go have dinner. Food is okay, but we like it because we get a little loud with laughing during dinner and it is usually okay on Tuesdays when we go. But I think most of us would like to try a new place. We need a place in the Woodbridge area, or within a couple miles of the Edison and Parkway bridges because we come from both north and south.
