Best Menu Options at Bellanico in Oakland?

I'm heading to Bellanico this weekend and have read somewhat mixed reviews on the place. I ate there back when it opened and vaguely remember liking the pasta dish I ordered, but that a few of the items at our table were rather heavy and not exactly a hit. I specifically remember a couple of the appetizers coming with what looked like a mayo based sauce, when the menu indicated that the dish would be more on the lighter side. Any thoughts on what to order? I now live in the neighborhood and would love to order correctly so I have a better experience this time!

SD Burritos in SF Bay Area

I feel your pain, and unfortunately I haven't found anything truly SD up here. I still cringe when I see people loading up rice, beans, etc. on a burrito. Your best bets are taco trucks - there was one on Folsom and Spear that does a pretty good job - chicken burritos only have chicken and salsa, carne asada has salsa and guac. I'm fairly sure the tortillas have some of that lard you're missing. Otherwise, most of the taquerias you'll find up here just aren't going to be even close to the same style. For a slightly different take on "authentic" but still pretty delicious food, head over to Oakland and hit up some of the taco trucks and restaurants in the Fruitvale area, around International Blvd.

I still go to SD for my fix about once a year though.

East Bay bakeries for small and cheap wedding cake/cupcakes

I am helping a friend out with the desserts for her wedding in August and am looking for something nice but not too expensive. The total guest count is 130 and the bride is fine with having a very small wedding-ish cake for the cutting ceremony and then either having a sheet cake or cupcakes to make sure that everyone can have dessert. The catch is that she would like to stay around $250. I have checked out Neldam's in Oakland and think that might work, but was curious if anyone has other ideas? It would be nice to have more options. The wedding is actually in Aptos and I would be bringing the desserts to the wedding myself, so something easily transportable is essential.

Champa Garden favorites?

Is there mayonnaise in the rice ball salad??

First time in Manhattan, one night, where to eat?

That is still up for debate - our trip is Thursday-Monday (and we don't get in until late Thursday) so we'll probably be trying for Saturday which I know makes it tough.

First time in Manhattan, one night, where to eat?

How far in advance should we reserve for that? Is the general consensus that Babbo is the best of the Batali bunch?

First time in Manhattan, one night, where to eat?

I will be in New York in the end of May to visit my boyfriend's family. They live upstate but we are coming down for a day and night in the city. If there is ONE place you would recommend to eat for dinner, what would it be? We are from San Francisco and are excited to see what NY has to offer. Both of us are especially interested in Italian - perhaps a Batali restaurant? There is no money limit, as we are willing to spend what it takes to have a fantastic meal with hopefully some nice wine as well. Looking forward to your suggestions!

Bakesale Betty's in N downtown Oakland?

Are they planning on keeping the old location as well?

Valentines Dinner near Mendocino?

Thanks to everyone for all of these excellenet suggestions! I will research them all more thoroughly before we leave and make a final decision. One more thing though - I just looked at the map and we are actually going to be in Manchester, so 25 miles south of Mendocino. I think we plan on heading to Mendocino for V-day, but does anyone have any other suggestions for places in Point Arena, Manchester, Elk, or the vicinity? Not just special occasion restaurants, but bars, grocery stores, coffee shops, farmers markets, etc. Thanks!

Valentines Dinner near Mendocino?

My boyfriend and I have the luxury of taking a week off and spending it in a cabin just south of Mendocino. We'll be up there for Valentine's day and are looking for a place to have a romantic and yummy dinner. Pricewise we would like to get out of there for at or below $150 total with wine, and we are open to any cuisine. I'm also interested in hearing of any local bakeries, sandwich places, farmers markets, etc. to explore the week we are there! Thanks in advance for your help.

Best delivery in East Bay (Oakland/Berkeley)?

I'm in Rockridge, a block up from the Temescal area.

Best delivery in East Bay (Oakland/Berkeley)?

Yes, I meant Yang Chow. It was terrible. So Holly Mandarin isn't worth my time either though?

Best delivery in East Bay (Oakland/Berkeley)?

As the rainy season approaches, I am once again faced with the same predicament: there seem to be no good places that deliver in the Oakland/Berkeley area. I have ordered a couple of times from India Palace - it'll do in a pinch but is certainly not Chowhound worthy. Rustica is okay but I get tired of paying $30 for a pizza, and the only Chinese I know of is King Yen on Grand Ave., which is so greasy and bad that I don't think I can bring myself to order again. Is there anywhere else that delivers that is actually really good? I'm open to any cuisine, any price range... I would appreciate any suggestions!

Finally.... some great mexican food!!!!

I believe this place is the same one that also has a taco truck on Spear and Folsom. Daily, 9am-5pm, Mon-Fri. It is some of the best Mexican I've had in the Bay Area.

Going to Sociale this Sat. - What to order? Where to park?

The last time I went there they had (for dessert) fresh, piping hot donuts served with a small coffee milkshake. The shake was not great, but I still fantasize about those donuts...

Another pizza question: Dopo vs. Pizzaiolo, what's better?

What do you like better about the pizza at Dopo?

Another pizza question: Dopo vs. Pizzaiolo, what's better?

Hmm, ok, good idea. So the pasta at Dopo is really good? I will definitely be trying that tomorrow night! On a side note, is there any consensus if one or the other has better pasta? I've never had the pasta at either one.

Another pizza question: Dopo vs. Pizzaiolo, what's better?

I have been unable to eat fats of any kind for several months now due to a medical condition and am finally back to a normal diet. I have been dreaming of pizza and tonight is the night! I'm just curious if these two places are a wash when it specifically comes to the pizza - I've had Pizzaiolo recently and loved it, but am curious about Dopo. I went there when they first opened and remembered liking it, but can't remember well enough to compare the two. Specifically, is either one more authentic? I'm more interested in dough quality rather than toppings, although those of course matter as well. Any thoughts are appreciated!

Korean BBQ truck spotted

It was on Embarcadero, on the side of the street away from the water. It was opened up to the sidewalk facing the little cul de sac where Spear ends under the bridge. I walked by at 1pm. Coming from Folsom it would have been on your left.

Korean BBQ truck spotted

It was on the Embarcadero today, right where Spear dead ends. I had just eaten though, so didn't end up trying it.

Best CSA for fruit w/ East Bay delivery?

Sorry, this is not fruit only (although in the summer it certainly seems like it!).

Best CSA for fruit w/ East Bay delivery?

I have been using Terra Firma for the last few years and have really enjoyed the quality and variety of produce. There are 3 sizes to choose from (small, medium, and large), and they select the variety for you. Pick up is once a week - looks like the closest pick up location for you would be the Lakeshore/Grand Lake spot. Check out their website.

Late Night Chow?

What about Grubstake? It's open until 4 I believe, and has a variety of burgers and other grilled meats - I've enjoyed my couple of visits here. It's not walking distance from Union Square but would be a short cab ride.

Who makes great Italian Sausage?

I just purchased raw pork sausages, one pack of hot and one of sweet, from TJ's in Emeryville. About $2.80 for a pack of 5.

Limo in Napa for 5 hours, need itinerary help!

I am organizing a limo wine tour for 8 women for a bachelorette and would love some help in choosing wineries, how many we should go to, etc. We are leaving from Silverado Resort in Napa at 1pm and have the limo until 6pm. The date is for Saturday July 21 so we will need to choose places that still would be open for reservations/private tastings. The bride is a big fan of pinot noir and sparkling wines, but we are mostly just looking for high quality wines and the best overall experience (staff, crowds, location, etc). I would love to avoid the overly touristy wineries. We are all from the SF area and have been to many of the big ones - Mondavi, Sattui, Beringer, etc. So far I am interested in Sinsky, Frogs Leap, Coppola, Domaine Chandon, and Sbragia Family Vineyards. What are the thoughts on these choices and am I missing any "musts"? Are there tasting costs for any of these? How many should I try to fit into one trip? Technically a few relatively close wineries would be our best bet so that we get the most of our trip, but I'm open to suggestions. We are really just looking for places to taste only and not for tours of the winery if that makes any difference. Also, we are going to stop somewhere to pick up sandwiches to take with us - any thoughts on this as well?

Tonight, no reservations, where can I go?

Thanks all - I actually called La Ciccia when the opened and was able to get in! They even had decent times - 6:30 or 8:30 - I'm excited to try it!

Tonight, no reservations, where can I go?

That is my first choice too, but their answering machine says no one will be there until 2:30. I spoke with Perbacco and they said if we just show up we should be able to get in if we are willing to wait up to an hour - that is Plan B. Thank you for your help!

Tonight, no reservations, where can I go?

What is everyone's opinion on Sociale? It looks to have one of the more reasonable time slots available on Open Table.
