Best ice cream in Los Angeles- an updated poll
I just discovered that they have Dr. Bob's ice cream at Franks Famous Bakery in Montrose. It's on Verdugo Rd. My other favorite place is Scoops on Heliotrope and Melrose.
Beignets at home (born of exasperation...)
Wow, nice pictures. Love the orange thermometer!! Love the black jacket... goes well with powdered sugar.
Mango Lassi

sweet lady jane- incredibly rude!
Thank you for that.. my daughter's name is Ruby .. we pass this place all the time and will have to try that strawberry cake you mentioned.
sweet lady jane- incredibly rude!
I too suffered the rolling eyes syndrome here.. I got to ask what 3 of the cakes were before they grew tired of me.. I settled on the orange buttercream which was delicious but since I drove all the way from Glendale to go here I thought to myself.. won't be coming back anytime soon. A couple of years ago I went to a birthday party a friends house and they had an incredicible tasting cake in the shape of a gingerbread house. It was so moist and the buttercream frosting was scrumptious. It was from the Bees Knees Bakery between Eagle Rock and Pasadena on Colorado Blvd. I had to have another one.. so I got one for my mom's birthday. It was $60 for a 9" cake with fresh flowers. It was very tall, maybe 4 layers or so. It too was awesome. I'm going back again in 2 weeks.. can't wait!

Best Boiled Crawfish in Baton Rouge
The Kountry Korner sure brings back memories. I remember when calzones came out and we used to love getting those there. They are the standard for boiled crawfish too.
Baton Rouge Recommendations -
The Chimes .. I dream about that place.. The line was too long the last time I was in town. Their onion rings are to die for.. the best ever.
Weekend in Baton Rouge
I loved this place growing up. My little brother worked there in high school. You can't beat Louisiana for the best friend anything.. especially the onion rings. I haven't had a good onion ring in California for 20 years.
New Kabob place in Eagle Rock
This is great to know.. it's in my hood. I usually make a bee line to Spitz which is right up the street past the Sizzler. You must try the Doner Kabob at Spitz too. Very fresh and their sweet potato fries are scrumptious!
Glendale
Far Niente is our favorite Italian restaurant by far. We've been dining here for 10 years and have seen it only get better with the new owner, Antonio. The wait staff have been there for years and are efficient and friendly. We love Manny.. he's our guy. The house salad is too die for.. it has a caesar dressing that I craved so much when I was pregnant that I would ask for a cup of it to go.. and they obliged me. The lobster bisque is usually made on Fridays and is light and has lots of lobster in it. There are 2 kinds of table bread offered ..free and the crusty bread goes well in the bisque. The filleto porcini is melt in your mouth tender. You can't wrong with their desserts either.
Indra in Glendale
We live right down the street and passed it up for 2 years before our friend visiting from Minnesota asked if we'd been there and said it was terrific. We've been going for 8 years now and love it.. we actually crave it. The Indian Noodle soup is the perfect meal in itself. It has a yummy creamy base and noodles topped with egg yolk, some peanuts and cilantro. It's divine. They usually have fish cakes steamed in banana leaves with a coconut sauce on top on Saturdays only. The woman who owns it recently bought the Japanese restaurant Aoba in Glendale and as of lately there haven't been any fish cakes. The Papaya salad is great if you have a cold.. really fresh and spicy. The seafood curry is delightful with a varied assortment of seafood in a clay serving dish. My friend lives in Culver City and drives over for the chicken curry & bamboo shoots. I'd say give it another try.. ;+0 Nancy
