Bruschetta, Salad and Spaghetti; Aldolino Italian Restaurant

Listen up, it has been well over a year since I have posted on Chowhound but I have finally found good reason to write. I learned about Aldolino Italian Restaurant by going to a house party in Covina which they were catering. Within a week I drove to their restaurant located in the back corner of an old strip mall on Arrow Hwy between Azusa Ave. and Citrus Ave. What first got my attention at the house party was the Bruschetta; a slice of toasted bread piled high with fresh chopped tomatoes, olives, basil and garlic. I knew it was good by just looking at it; fresh! It is truly a flavor experience. I told the waiter how much I like it and he suggested a salad.

Venezia Insalata
Mixed greens, arugula, cherry tomatoes, oranges, red onions, dried cranberries, caramelized apples, pecans and blue cheese crumbles, tossed in a raspberry vinaigrette. Yes, there is a God and this God spoke to me. I have returned for this salad and the Bruschetta maybe five times in the last three months and each time it has been perfectly fresh. I asked about the freshness of the salad and the Bruschetta and the waiter said they never buy large amounts of food but only enough to last a day. He said, “We have fresh food delivered everyday.” Then with a smile he asked, “Do you like it?” II smiled and asked if they had a simple Spaghetti plate and what I got proved simple is best!

Spaghetti Al Pomodoro; Fresh tomatoes, basil, garlic, and olive oil. These three items, the Bruschetta, salad, and spaghetti are enough for two people to share. Any one of them is enough of a flavor experience for one person to go home pleased. In fact, the waiter said they have a steady customer who comes once a month for just the Bruschetta and wine. I understand that. Yes, when foreplay is that good, it stands on its own.. Ah but what wonderful pleasures can follow.

What is the name of that GOOGIE coffee shop off the 163, or was it the 94?

My Thanks Cathy. I looked at the map and it is right where I recall it to be. It was a free standing building with parking in front and maybe to the left side. I also recall a small arts and crafts of farmers market across the street to the left side on the day I was there. The service was outstanding and so was the food. I will go there on Friday and report back. Again, my thanks.

What is the name of that GOOGIE coffee shop off the 163, or was it the 94?

I recall it may be a block or two from the freeway. It was years ago and I followed a Chowhound rec. Those names Perry's and Brian's somehow ring a bell.

What is the name of that GOOGIE coffee shop off the 163, or was it the 94?

Very close to San Diego. It is a coffee shop with GOOGIE style Architecture. a long counter and many booths. The menu has so many omelets; maybe 18 or more. The hash browns were moist inside and gloden brown outside. As I parked my car I recall thinking, "Wow, this place is packed. It must be good!" It was and I will be nearby soon and must relive it. Any thoughts of the name? I think it was a man's name like,"Jims" or "Bob's."

In my reply I mean to say, "Have hunger, will travel." A good Frittata is worth a drive for someone who drives for fun if food is at the end of the drive; no boundaries!

Breakfast Burrito at 4:00AM on a Sunday?

That is the one I would get. Actually, I would get two with everything on them. Better yet, get the Break Fast Burrito and the Breakfast sandwich on the muffin and say "Everything on it." IMO, L.A. at it's morning best. Maybe call to be sure they offer this at 4:00 am coz that might still be the doinner hour.

Finally tried "25 Degree's" Burgers....

I stopped eating meat early last year but sometimes I crave the good old days and from your words, "once you cut it in half your burger sits in a soup of grease" I can swear that if I ever fall off this wagon I am riding on it will be into that 25 Degree's soup stacked with a mountain of bacon on top. Thanks for the report form the other side.

Wedding for 200 with Outdoor Ceremony/Indoor Reception

perk's reply hit the nail on the head. Also, the Team wants this to be focused on food and caterer which is still a broad question unless we know more about The Details:, i.e.,-Kind of food? Maybe if we knew the kind of food they want for the big day someone here might know the caterer and that caterer might know the the venue with the correct ambiance for that kind of food, One thing is for sure, we need to know the kind of food they want. Since Emme is a true Chowhound, Emme needs to firmly suggest to them that food is #1 and them the rest falls into place.

For example,
Food / the celebration (the whole night) = Venue of wedding (30 min ceremony)
Polynesian food / sea food = sunset beach ceremony on the sand.
Italian food = garden or vineyard ceremony.
Corn dogs, peanuts and cotton candy = getting married at the Circus (actually this sounds fun and for 50K you might get the whole circus for the night, w/ endless elephant riides)
So we need to know the food first.

Looking for a REALLY GREAT burger place and New York Style pizza place

It happened on halloween about 5:30 when they had a line of people going out the door. I always ask for some char on the crust but when I got to the party 20 min. later and opened the three pizzas, the thin crust cheese was black on top and bottom. The cheese was dead and the whole large pizzA went into the trash. I could not take it back because we had to go trick-or-treat. That pizza was some trick and I don't mean to say neat by that use of the word trick. The punk who boxed it knew and wanted to hide it because there was double tape around the box keeping the lid from opening. I have been eating at Petrillos for decades and have not been back since then because I am so mad about it. I will return again, talk to the owner, and have more of tbheir great thin crust but I will check it before I walk out the door. That is so wrong to haved to do because once the box is opened the thin crust will cool off that much quicker.

Looking for a REALLY GREAT burger place and New York Style pizza place

Actually, I went to Tops several days ago and ordered the Kobe Bistro Burger with the burger on the side to take home for someone else and the cook looked at me like I was nuts, and so I just had the grilled cheese w/ tomato soup. Once before when the owner's kids were there I told them how i wanted it and I got it that way -- w/out the burger and w/ extra cheese -- very good. Smoked mozzarella is special. Last summer my son got a tripple pack of mozzarella and we then found some cheese cloth and put it in my smoker. We could not stop eating it and we will do that again but it takes a lot of time to smoke it --slowly. Going to Tops is the easy way to get my fix of smoked mozzarella.which they also use in that great grilled cheese.. I agree with what you say, "I love BBQ so anything smokes is all right by me..." I dream of a home made" Soul Pizza" made with Hungry Al's hot BBQ sauce, smoked mozzarella & cheddar w/ Al;s smoked hot links -- wow! But for me, hold the links. I really have been thinking of asking the guys at Lamp Post if they would make me a custom pizza if I round up the Al; sauce, some smoked mozzarella .....

IMO. Petrillos thin crust is better than any slice I ever had in NYC. Yep, you must say "Thin crust, pie cut, well done but not black. The Glendora location burnt my cheese pizza that I took to a house party and I am still have not called them about it because I am still so mad I may say some bad things to the owners. But still, that was the first pizza they @&*$#%-up in decades. Well, they really don't know how to place the toppings on top but at least the toppings are all top quality. Petrillos is very good.

Another thin crust, not NY crust but good is Tony's

Pasadena - Eats before the Rose Bowl

As mentioned above, Pas is packed on the Rose day. With that in mind I would try to stay above the 210 fry and West of Allen. Also, many places will be closed for new years day. Not sure about the places below, they might be closed also.

Brooklyn Hound in LA for 2 weeks

If you have any love for egg nog or chocolate milk you must drive over to Broguiere's Dairy. This is the real deal Drive-thru Dairy with Milk in Glass bottles. This stuff is beyond perfect. To me, just driving through and drinking from the old style glass milk bottle takes me back to a better place in time and the quality is beyond words..

ISO great food, atmosphere, but not too expensive in OC...

You know, that word "atmosphere" is special. It goes above ambiance and towards outer space. One place, Park Ave. in Stanton has Googie space age atmosphere and very good food. There is a large dinning room with high class atmosphere and then for really large groups they have a larger room in the rear. The little bar at the entrance will blow your mind. The steaks and chops are good and reasonably priced. .

Where can i pick up an unusual apple pie (fondant topping, crumb, or caramel) for thurs?

Please report back. I searched for some older post and could not find any with photos. I recall Professor Salt once had a great photo of the punpkin pie and it really showed how special the crust is.-- like a thick sugar cookie.

Where can i pick up an unusual apple pie (fondant topping, crumb, or caramel) for thurs?

It has been a while but I recall getting some really good pies at The Filling Station out in the old town section of Orange. Pumpkin was very good as was the caramel apple pie. It is what you asked for plus it is large, deep dish and has very special crust. When on the table this pie might take away from the bird. For Thurs? I doubt it but maybe if you call ASAP and beg.... Otherwise, now you know where to go next time,
