MillCreek's Profile

Good Mexican in Everett?

La Palmera and Frida's in Mill Creek come to mind.

What is your experience with Charles at Smugglers Cove?

I have eaten at Charles many times over the years, usually in the context of dinners with small groups of people from work as a social function. I am somewhat underwhelmed. I think the food is OK at best, service is spotty and the quality-to-cost ratio is not very high. It seems to be very popular at prom night for the local high schools, representing as it does 'high-end' dining in Mukilteo.

Clay Pit Cuisine of India. Almost a stellar experience.

Living in Mill Creek, we have eaten at Clay Pit often. We now prefer the Masala Grill, a few miles south of Mill Creek on the Bothell-Everett highway. We have not tried the buffet there, though. The food at Masala is more reasonably priced and better spiced.

Lynnwood Whole Foods, Spring 2012

I will certainly be driving over from MillCreek. Now if they could just build a Trader Joe's in the Mill Creek/Bothell area, things would be peachy. Trying to get in and out of the TJ by Everett Mall is an adventure between the traffic and the parking lot there. The Lynnwood TJ has the advantage of a Half Price Books right next door, so that is worth a trip between the two.

Lynnwood/Edmonds local honey search

Yes. At this intersection is the Thomas Lake Shopping Center with an Albertson's as the anchor tenant and a Shell gas station on the corner. Take exit 186 off of northbound I-5, turn right at the top of the exit and drive about 4.5 miles on 132nd and when you get to the Shell station, turn left at that intersection, and you will be on 35th Avenue SE. I rode my bicycle past the place yesterday to get the address for you, and the house is at the intersection of 35th and 118th Place SE.

Lynnwood/Edmonds local honey search

Go to 132nd Street and 35th Avenue SE in the Mill Creek area and turn left (north) on 35th Avenue SE and drive up about 1/3rd of a mile. Look to your right, and you see a rambler with a sign advertising local honey. There is a garden shed in the front yard where you can buy jars of honey and honeycombs. You just leave the money. This is just north of the Pioneer Trails entrance, probably in the 118th block.

Grocery Store Roasted Chicken - Who has the best?

Another vote for Costco. For grocery-store fried chicken, Albertson's all the way. So much tastier than Safeway or Fred Meyer's.

This just in: Alligator Soul in Everett out of business

New as of yesterday, the Alligator Soul, a popular Cajun restaurant in Everett, is closed for good, according to a sign on the door and their Facebook page. The economy is cited as the reason.

A pity. I liked their food a lot and my wife and I ate there often.

Turkey Dinner...Tonight!

Mitzel's.

Excellent Gumbo at Shultzy's

I found the jambalaya, crawfish etouffe, ham hocks and bread pudding to be excellent. Oddly enough, they don't make an oyster po' boy, but the blackened catfish po' boy at lunch is very good indeed. The crawfish and grits is an excellent appetizer, as are the crawfish beignets.

Excellent Gumbo at Shultzy's

I have been quite pleased with the gumbo at Alligator Soul in Everett. In addition to the original, they have a chicken, catfish, alligator and seafood gumbo. It is made with a dark roux base and has plenty of okra and andouille sausage in it.

Wow, I have not heard of this before. I found their website and will definitely try it.

To Die For

Where to dine in Everett?

My wife and I just got back from visiting the circus and eating at Terracotta Red. Calamari, tangerine beef, sesame chicken and garlic noodles. All excellent as always.

Where to dine in Everett?

I utter squeals of joy whenever a local emporium carries Diamond Knot Industrial Strength IPA. Ah, bliss.

Yes, that is Marimba.

Where to dine in Everett?

In addition to what has already been mentioned, other options include Alligator Soul, Marimba, Prohibition Grille, Curry Bistro, Z's Burgers, Scuttlebutt, Bobby's Hawaiian, Lombardi's, Cafe Dijon, Anthony's Woodfire, and Depot Cafe and Smokehouse. If you had not excluded Asian, I would have recommended Terracotta Red and Thai Bistro.

Best Chicken-Fried Steak In Seattle Area?

Leper is spot on. One of the highlights of me going down to Texas on business is finding good CFS. I will say, however, that a whole lot of Texas restaurants use Pioneer brand country gravy mix and it is pretty good.

best economical, small-quantity ice cream makers?

If you have a KitchenAid mixer, you can get a freezer bowl and dasher that fits the mixer. I like mine.

Mill Creek and Martha Lake, WA Areas.....

I also recommend going a little further afield and visiting the Maltby Cafe for breakfast.

Mill Creek and Martha Lake, WA Areas.....

How interesting. My wife and I are fond of the General Tso's chicken and their famous orange peel beef.

Mill Creek and Martha Lake, WA Areas.....

In terms of grocery shopping, Central Market would be the leader. The standard QFC, Albertson's, Safeway and Fred Meyer are also in the area.

In terms of restaurants, it really depends what you are looking for. Some good candidates may include Azul, La Palmera, Thai Bistro, Wild Vine Bistro, Clay Pit, Wasabi Bay, Blazing Onion, Sushi Zen, Jemmy's Wok, the Sawmill Cafe, McMenamin's, Calabria, and Thai Rhapsody.

Let me know if you are looking for a specific cuisine, and perhaps I have some recommendations for you.

Where to take dad for scallops?

If you are going to be on the Eastside, Russell's in Bothell does a very nice seared scallop.

Has Anyone Been to Blazing Onion Burgers in Mill Creek?

It was still there this morning when I rode my bicycle past it. It is at the north end of the town center, by LA Fitness. The restaurant is in the Creekside Village section of the center, and it backs up onto the Bothell-Everett highway. It is next to the italian restaurant, Capri.

Has Anyone Been to Blazing Onion Burgers in Mill Creek?

I have been there several times, being local to the restaurant. The onion rings and sweet potato fries are excellent. The burgers leave me a bit underwhelmed. For my money and taste, I prefer Shake N Go on Seattle Hill Road, since they also have great onion rings, and a selection of wraps, and sandwiches in addition to burgers. I enjoy the blue cheese burger there.

PS: The Burgermaster south of Mill Creek on the Bothell-Everett Highway is also very good.

Peanut Butter......... on corn?

I have lived on the West Coast and eaten corn for 50 years, and I have never heard or seen of putting peanut butter on corn.

Zenner's sausage in Snohomish county/Northend: where to buy?

It is made and sold in the Portland area. The double-smoked sausage is made with 20% bacon and is an excellent breakfast item. I contacted them, and the person answering the phone could not offhand think of any retail establishments this far north. It is sold all over the greater Portand and SW Washington area, and in some other parts of Oregon.

Zenner's sausage in Snohomish county/Northend: where to buy?

I am looking for Zenner's double-smoked sausage up here in the Everett area. Has anyone seen it for sale anywhere? Even my reliable Central Market in Mill Creek doesn't have it.
