Kiriko/ Tenn lunch?

I don't know about Sushi Tenn but the owner of Kiriko was on annual vacation so they won't open until 18th this month. I was craving for black sesame ice-cream so I called and that's what it said on the answering machine. You can leave them a meesage to make reservation.

I'd suggest having lunch at Torafuku next time you have a bad day. Ask for the seat at the back which are usually much quieter than in the open area.

Newport Seafood

I thought Newport Seafood Tan Cang Restaurant is the one in Santa Ana. I called that place and they said they are the original one and they have no branches (Actually there used to be one in Monterey Park at Atlantic and Garvey run by the owner's sister but I think they closed after a while).

Newport Seafood

I've been to the one in Santa Ana and it's the place I'd go whenever I crave for lobster. I want to know if the one in San Gabriel is as good because that way I don't have to drive so far. I got to try their catfish soup next time I go there. Though I was really happy with the soup that came with the dish during lunch time. It is so flavorful.

Newport Seafood

I was reading Jonathan Gold's review on 3/14 ("Alive with Pleasure") and I wonder has anyone tried both the New Port Seafood in San Gabriel and the one in Santa Ana (also known as Tan Cang Seafood). They seem to serve the same lobster dish but I've never been to the one in SG and I want to know if it is as good as the other one.

The food court is open from 9am to 5pm on weekends. I'd recommend going there before 11:30 as it tends to get really crowed after that. They have some of the most unusual and amazing Thai dishes. The coconut ice-cream is a must-try.

Black Sesame Ice Cream from Maeda-en at Green Tea Terrace, Westwood

I don't think so since it's a new flavor. The best sesame ice-cream I had in LA is from Yakitoria on Sawtelle. The chef there would come up with different flavors of home-made ice-cream depending on what is in season. Besides the black sesame seed one, they also have white sesame seed ice-cream. If you go there around Dec or Jan, they have truffle (not chocolate) ice-cream which sounds really weird but is amazing. Chestnut is also very good (only served in winter). The problem is you have to call ahead and ask which kind they have and they disappear fast (only 20 scoops each batch). Milk tea is their standard one but it's not outstanding.

I've been craving for black sesame ice-cream and Kiriko is not open until the 18th so I'm so happy to hear the news. Thanks, PayOr Play!
