Pinatas!

Pinatas usually hold things you eat so I figured it was chow appropriate.

Where can you buy pinatas? Not online stores. The party is Thursday and the two star pinatas i custom ordered have not arrived and the seller is ignoring my questions! They are for adults, so the bigger and higher quality the better. I've already looked at target, walmart, toys r us and i party.

Thanks!

Van otis truffles?

Has anyone been to van otis in lawrence lately? I just tried to go to their website and it's not working, it says the domain name is up for renewal so I got worried that they might have closed.

'In Season' produce delivery comes to Brookline and JP

i was also an early adopter and loved the service, but after it switched to wed. night pickup it was very inconvenient for me to pick it up so i ordered much less frequently, i was excited that they were going to switch to delivery... until i found out about the $8 dollar delivery charge, unless you going to buy a ton of stuff it is not really worth the delivery cost, the products are expensive enough in the first place. I don't think it is fair or good business practice to completely eliminate the pick up option and to only offer delivery for $8. Usually when there is a separate delivery charge for something, you also have an option of going to pick it up yourself, at no extra cost, such as with restaurants-takeout or services like peapod-stop and shop. If they are not giving a no charge pick up option then they should not be charging a delivery fee because it is not an extra optional service, its the only option and its the premise of the whole business, their delivery costs should be figured into the prices they charge for what they sell, not tacked on as an extra charge at the end.
I have talked to several people who were also early customers and no longer use the service because it is unaffordable to pay $8 for the few things they ordered each week, it is dissapointing to see the businsess take this turn. In season sells basic items like bread and milk, things people like to buy weekly, but how much can you really expect people to pay for such basic things? Ironilcally, if you spend $100 or more, you get free delivery.

pie cherries, sour cherries--any local sources?

Has anyone seen them at any stores/farm stands on the northshore, i gather from the posts that the NY ones are starting to show up. I havn't been out looking yet so i thought i would ask here first

pie cherries, sour cherries--any local sources?

Smolak farms had pyo sour cherries last year and i didn't make it in time so i was looking forward to it this year. I kept checking their site every week but they never put anything up about it and its not even listed in their crops and now the season is over, im very sad :(
Russell orchards also grows cherries but they do not have pyo, it says on their website that they're available in their store but i've never been able to get my hands on any. Last year I finally found some at stop and shop, they were from NY and they had them on sale one week, i am hoping they will get them again.

I dream of the Fried Chicken at the Agawam Diner in Rowley

After hearing this talk about their pies being commercial I have to ask if anyone saw the April 2007 issue of saveur magazine, which had a picture of agawam's coconut cream pie on the cover and said something like 'comfort pie and more from america's finest diner'. Inside there was a substantial feature article on the agawam where it talked about how things were home made, including the pies, the bakery is downstairs, this article included recipes for their coconut cream pie among other things and there was a photo of the tattered handwritten copy of the recipe they've used all this years. Anyways, I love the agawam and I was very excited to see them featured in a widely know and respected publication such as saveur and I just wanted to bring this to everyones attention because of all the skepticism over whether their pies are home made.

El Souk Gloucester

Hello

Around maybe 3-5 years ago there was a restaurant in gloucester on main st. called el souk, it was lebanese/middle eastern. It was probably my favorite restaurant and sadly it closed. I was on their mailing list and received a notice before they closed that said they were going to relocate but they didnt know where yet. That was the last i heard so i am assuming they didnt re-open somewhere else, but i just wanted to post on here and see if anybody else knew of the place and if anyone had any info because i loved it so much.
Thanks
