slow cooker, crockpot fun
Once you discover the joys of slow cooking, the next step is (perhaps0 an electric pressure cooker and/or a rice cooker. I'm so addicted to the rice cooker that it's coming on our vacation to the North Carolina shore.

slow cooker, crockpot fun
Mizzdee, slow cookers are making a huge come-back. Virtually every bride-to-be amongst my daughter's friends has at least one slow cooker on her registry, and sometime a couple of them in different sizes. Here is a link to one of the best slow cooker websites that I've found.
http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/
It was started by a woman who decided to used her slow cooker for 365 consecutive days, and blog about it along the way. She has easy recipes, honest evaluations of the results, and a ton of great tips. She's also parlayed that blog into a couple of cookbooks, sponsorships and a career.
BTW, her Slow Cooker Pulled Pork is now a staple at all family picnics or large casual gatherings. Just made a pot a few weeks ago when we had a moving party for my niece and her fiance. I made it the day before, then just kept portions of it out for most of the afternoon on warm so people could munch as they got hungry. Good luck!!

Beets can also have a somewhat surprising next-day consequence that could freak teens out if they were not prepared for it.

We love green grapes done the same way. Actually, a good (and pretty) light app is a mix of green& red seedless grapes, tossed with sour cream & sprinkled with a mix of brown sugar and ground walnuts. Spread them out on a long, thin serving platter and serve with toothpicks.
Pierogies
Yikes. The date of that original post (and the replies) was more than 9 years ago.
Which cuisine is the most frugal in which to cook/eat by?
I think ANY cuisine can be expensive if you (1) live in an area other than that of the cuisine, and (2) have to start from scratch assembling all of the various spices/ingredients that are specific to that cuisine. The concepts on which those cuisines are based, however, can be incorporated into an overall cooking philosophy that maximizes your food dollar. Chinese: the concept of stir-frying a bit of this and a bit of that into a tasty meal served over rice; Indian: the concept of using legumes and working with a pressure cooker to save time and energy. It's all about using what you've got. And of course one way to save on the (sometimes) high cost of herbs is to grow your own -- even a city apartment dweller can grow the basics. And of course there is the concept of cheap food items that fill your belly before you move on to the main (and more expensive) course. I'm thinking bread, tortillas, & etc. Even the "fancy" Yorkshire Pudding is really a belly-filler meant to be served before (or instead of) the roast. And what cuisine does not have a soup -- bones, water, left-over scraps.

Cheflynnie, are you sure that's Tiffin and not Saffron?
Sausage filler machines
Try eBay. I searched for "sausage stuffer", and came up with a lot of results. Sausage Maker can ship via UPS, which delivers worldwide.
Have you tried improvising with a pastry bag? http://www.ehow.com/how_7224261_build-sausage-stuffer.html
Restaurant Supplier open to public
Wow. Right in our own back yard, even. I'll be checking it out this weekend. Assume this is at the site of the old Sam's Club?
I found a website, which has more info & hours: http://www.benjaminfoods.com/
Asian (any - Thai, Indian, Japanese, Chinese) catering in Willow Grove area?
Lai Lai Garden (http://www.lailaigarden.com/), on DeKalb Pike in Blue Bell, specializes in Asian weddings and other special occasions. They are not that far from Willow Grove. I do not know, however, if they do catering off-site. I'd contact them and inquire.
Pioneer Woman
You are correct, HillJ. The FN show is riding off the name of her blog, which already had a substantial following. I don't think the FN show was ever intended to portray her as a real "pioneer woman". She started out blogging by recounting how a city slicker gal got turned into a pioneer woman after being swept off her feet by Marlboro Man -- all very much tongue-in-cheek. The original blog spawned a secondary blog that revolved around cooking. She is very astute at self-marketing, and got her big break when she parlayed her blog popularity into a Thanksgiving dinner throw-down challenge to Bobby Flay. FN must have sensed an opportunity as well, because her blog followers created a huge audience for the throw-down episode, the episode validated her on-screen abilities and appeal, and the rest is history.. To think it all started with a humble blog. More power to her.
Springhouse Drafting Room To Be Andy's Diner
Odd that there is nothing on the Andy's Diner web site that indicates the opening/potential opening of a new location. Maybe they figured that with the demise of the venerable Pike DIner there was a need in that location? We are going to a wedding this weekend where a number of the guests will be former Drafting Room employees. They were a pretty tight crew & were upset when the place closed.
Weekday Dinner near Huntingdon Valley Library
Many thanks! Sorry I misspoke about the school being in Germantown -- it's off Germantown Ave. & I just wasn't thinking.
Our meetings are on a Tuesday night. I'll have to map those places to see what's reasonable. I have been to Rollers & to CinCIn, as well as McNally's -- all 3 would fit the bill food-wise, but that time thing needs to be worked out.
Weekday Dinner near Huntingdon Valley Library
In an amusing twist, the group that holds this particular meeting is contemplating a change of venue from the HV library to the Waldorf School, in Germantown (across from the Trolley Stop Diner). Now I get to search for new places to meet my friend for dinner! Any and all suggestions welcome -- I am coming from the Glenside train station, and need to squeeze dinner in between 6:00 - 7:00. My friend is coming from Elkins Park. It is better if we find a place closer to the meeting site rather than one that is on the way.
Weekday Dinner near Huntingdon Valley Library
Good suggestion, Al. I'll check it out.
Cw: I had found Blue Sage -- that might be an option as well. My problem is that I am coming from the Glenside train station and meeting a friend who is usually coming from Elkins park. The earliest I've been able to get to All Ways in the past is 6, and we've got the meeting at 7. If the train is late, or traffic is bad, the time frame is even tighter.
NY Gyro Truck at 20th & Market
Must have been on vacation, because now they are back, with the line as longer (or longer) than ever. A great lunch & a super bargain -- $5 gets you a platter and a beverage. I am feasting on a salad, with a generous portion of very good felafel and some stewed veggies, all doused in a combination of red (hot) and white (tatziki?) sauces, with a pita in the side & a soda. All for $6. No wonder there's a line!
Weekday Dinner near Huntingdon Valley Library
I tried to access their web site (www.tavolocuisine.com), but was unsuccessful -- web page not available. I figured they either went out of business or have as new page. When we drove to the meeting last night , after another very very slow service t All Ways Cafe, we noticed that Saffron has now opened. We might try that next time.
From Airport to Horsham
Where will you be in Horsham? Look into the Airport train (www.SEPTA.org) which will take you into Glenside. You could take a cab from there.
Not a lot to see/do in Horsham itself, but you are in striking distance of Philly, and Valley Forge. What are you looking for in the way of a restaurant?
Dissapointing Dinner at Friends House
Don't be quick to judge if they don't invite you over. I am a wonderful cook and would love to invite friends over, but I am married to a man who now makes his living buying/selling "antiques". There is no way I could invite anyone into my home, which verges on looking like a permanent garage sale. Sometimes there are reasons that people can't reciprocate in kind. I look for other ways to reciprocate, however (meeting friends out, bringing food to their party), but am painfully conscious of not being able to reciprocate in the way I would like.
Weekday Dinner near Huntingdon Valley Library
A friend and I have a meeting once a month at the HV Library. Are there any places very close by where we could meet for dinner at about 6 and still get to our meeting by 7? We've been chowing down at All Ways Cafe, but the service has been abysmal the last few times we went.
Smoke Daddy's is baack. Next weekend only
would you be able to send to my email? It's under my profile. Thx!
Sunday Brunch near Ambler
I am told that the Spring House Tavern has one: http://www.springhousetavern.com/events/sunday-brunch
There is also Zake's Cake, Joseph Ambler Inn, Normandy Farm.....

Where can I find a menu/listing of his offerings?
Mad Mex-Never Again
AG, you are correct. Not in the same league as CF, Sarape & etc, but much better than BF or Chipotle. I think they have worked out the bugs since January, and all of our recent experiences have been good, especially service-wise. I think it fills a niche for those who are looking for a place with a lively bar, good beer selection and a restaurant -- not easy to find in our area.
Lunch in Willow Grove
LOVE Mad Mex. They do not tone down their salsa for gringos however. Lots of vegetarian options, a great beer selection and awesome fish tacos.
Lunch in Willow Grove
Ditto on all. After you get off the turnpike, you would just go on Easton Road (rt. 611) away from Willow Grove rather than towards it.
