Per Se Lounge Reservations
I went there at 6 on Tuesday and it was totally empty which was good because we got the choice window seat. By the time we left at 8 only two other tables were filled.
I think there are about 6-8 tables total.
Side note - you still get all the awesome amuse bouches and whatnot that the regular diners get.
Any cool restaurants for teens in NYC?
It's not close to Grand Central, but Cowgirl in the West Village comes to mind. It's group and under 21 friendly. And affordable.
Good Chow near BAM?
Ditto on Alchemy being highly mediocre.
General Greene and No. 7 are both very good - General Greene is a bit cheaper, but also is further from BAM.
I actually like Smoke Joint - their hacked beef sandwich is pretty solid, as is their cornbread, and baked beans. It's not too smoky, and the bar area is pretty fun.
Huaraches
A few of the red hook vendors, including one with excellent huaraches, will be at the brooklyn flea until mid-December.

Pain Quotidian on 40th across from Bryant Park is good also (sandwichs/salads).
K-Town is a great resource too - tons of restaurants on 32nd b/w 5th and 6th. Also, Han Bat on 35th is great.
Pho 32 is quick and cheap too for pho.
And Pret a Manger - multiple locations - is great for super fast and fresh sandwiches and salads.
Welcome!
pizza recommendations in ft. greene area
Graziella's on Vanderbilt near DeKalb isn't too bad. They have some odd delivery rules though (not after 6 or something).
Chow-worthy Stops b/w San Antonio and New Orleans?
I'm doing a roadtrip in a few weeks b/w Austin, San Antonio and New Orleans. It's about an 8 hour drive b/w San Antonio and New Orleans and I'm looking for anything interesting on the way - ideally somewhere along 10. I'm open to anything, although we're focusing on BBQ and tex-mex, for obvious reasons. Ideally, we won't be going into Houston, but would love to find a small town with some good dinner eats and maybe enough going on that we could spend the night. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. TIA
Is it possible to have a birthday dinner for 15 under 2000$????
If you're willing to go out to Brooklyn, Frankies 457 has a beautiful carriage house and is about $40 a head before wine and whatnot. Excellent italian.
Or, there's always Congee Village. :)

Frankies 457 Spuntino

You should check out the midtown lunch blog for ideas too.

Plus - 'Wichcraft - more than $5 but delicious, is in Bryant Park, which is a nice setting for lunch.
cheap lunch in Garment District / Hell's Kitchen?
It might be a bit far but Kati Roll (sort of Indian burritos) on 38th b/w 5th and 6th is delicious and cheap.
tamarind
I ate there last week and really enjoyed it. We had fish and chicken, but everything was really nicely prepared, so I'm sure the vegetarian dishes would be also be excellent.
I like the Tabla Bread Bar also. Vattan is really good too, and is completely vegetarian, although I noticed they were renovating and closed the last time I walked by a month or so ago.
Eats before or after Coldplay show at MSG
Lucky you!
Han Bat (korean) on 35th is good. Keen's (steakhouse) is also good.
Date in Brooklyn
Second Lucali and Convivium. If you go to Convivium ask to be seated in the wine cellar - it's incredibly romantic.
Also, Bocca Lupo on Henry is fun for a date - modern Italian, small plates.
Smith Street Restaurants
Have you tried Lunetta? I had amazing gnocchi there a few weeks ago.
Calling all Manhattan-ers in the know!
I agree NYJ. I actually prefer Al Di La to Babbo. Plus the neighborhood (Park Slope) around there is a lot of fun - lots of bars and gorgeous brownstones. Dinner at Al Di La followed by drinks at Union Hall makes for a very fun and non-touristy night.
If you're still debating hotels - I love the Soho Grand. Great location - and check out the romance package - sounds cheesy but it doesn't cost extra -you get free drinks, chocolates and breakfast in bed.
What is the best cooked fish entree in Manhattan?
The halibut mi cuit at EMP is insanely, abusurdly good.
Also, the chilean sea bass with black bean sauce at nobu is amazing.
suggestions for dinner in brooklyn heights
Second Lucali and Bocca Lupo - both are excellent.
Chip Shop on Atlantic is also good...Tazza has pretty good salads and paninis. And for a good go-to chinese delivery place I like Fortune House. It won't win any awards but it's consistent and reliable.
Help me eat like a local!
Han Bat on 35th is always solid. Their bi bim bap and bulgogi are excellent. Kun Jip on 32nd is also good, but always crowded.
If you want a really fun, unique experience, BonChon Chicken on 5th b/w 32nd and 31st (2nd floor) is awesome. It looks like a swank bar - but it happens to serve awesome korean style fried chicken.
Pinkberry for dessert - on 32nd is fun.
Or if you like pho - and feel like having vietnamese in koreatown - Pho 32 is cheap and good.
Help me eat like a local!
I second Hill Country. Quality BBQ, not too expensive.
Also, since you're staying near Herald Square - you should check out Koreatown. There are a lot of cheap and tasty options on 32nd between 5th and 6th.
What Recent Meal "Blew You Away"?
I love degustation! I am surprised it continues to fly under the radar. When I went a few months ago, they had an awesome version of cheesteak.
Yesterday, at eleven madison park I had an AMAZING loup de mer with cauliflower. Unreal, and the service was incredible.
visiting friend wants to see celebrities - where would you take her?
I second Freeman's. I sat next to Hugh Jackman, and saw Mike Myers nearby a few days later.
The area around there is good for spotting as well - Whole Foods, Bowery Ballroom, Sweet & Vicious.
Spotted Pig
I'd go back for the gnudi alone. It's amazing.
However, if you're not up for a potential hassle and long wait, I'd skip it.
Lucali: when to go?
I am thrilled to hear meat is back on Fridays. Those few weeks of lent were very painful!
More interesting than a salad...
Thanks all, I really like the idea of grilled greens.
More interesting than a salad...
I am making spinach and ricotta ravioli with a butter and basil sauce for dinner tonight, but have no clue what to serve it with. I want to branch out from the usual mesclun salad, and am looking for something more substantial but not starchy. One thought was scallops, but that seems a little odd..another was sauteed broccoli but that seems boring. Help!
TIA
help - dinner tonight
Al Di La. Get there early. It's amazing.
Or if you're open to other Brooklyn neighborhoods and want amazing pizza - Lucali. I personally like it a lot more than Franny's and it's BYOB.
Both have been heavily discussed on these boards.
Suggestions for a good date place?
Degustation. Totally romantic and unique. Bar seating , not so cozy as a lounge- but it's very conducive to intimate conversation. Great food too.
