NY Wine Guy's Profile

Gordon Ramsay or Maze at The London?

If you can get into Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, go for it, its phenominal. If its just the London Bar, SKIP IT.

Moving out of NY

I'm moving to Sonoma, and before i go I just wanted to make sure I've had my fill of truely fine dining. I'll take any suggestions on great restaurants.

Bolo or Cafe Noir or Public House

Bolo is great. Have you considered hearth?

Needed: Washington Sq Suggestions

Looking for something in walking distance of Washington square. Good food, but on the less expensive side. Something like hearth or giorgione, maybe a bit cheaper.

Thanks for the help

I'm disappointed and need some help in the UES

Try Cafe d'Alsace, or Uva. both great and casual

Does "mountain red" mean anything specific?

Mountain has no specific meaning in the wine world, but there is a definite flavor to wines grown at higher elevations. To prove the point, there is the Medocino Ridge appellation which are several mountain peaks above 1200'. because of this 1200' qualification, it is the only non contiguous appellation in the country.

Hess is up there on Mt Veeder. Outpost on Howell Mtn is great, and Reverie and Diamond Mountain are good Diamond Mtn wines.

Carmenere recs.....what do you like?

Pascal Toso Magdelena. Made by Paul Hobbs. I think is was about $75/bottle

"Inherited" some wine

I had a 1976 Koonunga Hill with Peter Gago with winemaker form Grange. '76 was the first year they produced it, and it was still good. Its nice to see a wine (wich originally sold for $2) fully developed.

1988 was not a great year, so the BB might be a little tired.

Houghton is probably well past its prime

What's better than Per Se?

NOTHING!

Go to Veritas and spend the difference on a great bottle of wine

Can't Get into Babbo...

Alto is GREAT!

NYC restaurant for 50 person rehearsal dinner

Try Gin Lane

"Fun" dinner place on UES?

I second Uva, or for more downscale, Brother Jimmy's across the st

Any Rose` recommendations?

I had the best Rose of my life last summer. Its from Montes Winery (Chile) and I believe its Syrah. They call it Cherub. We bought 2 bottles for a barbecue, and I literally drank 1 myself before realizing how easily it was going down. I sent my wife out for a case ofter that, and its all gone now.

Drink this rose!

Gordon Ramsay at the London

Skip the lobster ravioli, the sauce overpowers the ravioli. the foi gras is excellent, as is the beef with oxtail sauce. Hands down the best suffle I ever had (and I don't really like apricot)

Woodford Reserve Bourbon

its great stuff. My brother sends me a bottle every year from the Kentucky Derby. Each year they have a different label. I have 4 now (I'm a scotch guy at heart). Its owned by the Jack Daniels people.
