Baltimore: Looking for the Grit and Soul of the City

Have you seen the Baltimore episode of No Reservations? Bourdain eats put beef, lake trout (and I think other seafood) and hangs out with some of the cast from The Wire. I don't remember where he went, but they might be the kinds of places you're looking for.

Anywhere in the DC/Bmore area that's like Amsterdam Falafelshop but with Meat?

I keep picturing Al Pacino behind a counter, slicing a slab of meat on a spit meat and yelling at you when he serves you your sandwich. :)

Mike Isabella to head Mexican small plates restaurant in old Hook space

Someone should open a strip club/small plates restaurant. Topless tapas!

costco stores sell liquor in maryland?

The Greenbelt Co-op sells beer and wine seven days a week.

GOOD store bought Steaks

Check out the Laurel Meat Market, on Main Street in Laurel. Just a short drive from College Park.

'Hound-worthy chow recs for a 4-day trip to DC, near Mt Vernon Square?

For oysters, Clyde's Gallery Place for their raw bar happy hour. Old Ebbitt Grill has the same deal, but Clyde's is a little bit closer to you.

Moving to downtown Silver Spring - a summary, please

El Golfo. Not downtown Silver Spring, but pretty close. Mexican and South American food. They have live music on Thursdays, and the $5 cover gets you a free beer or margarita.

Royal Mile Pub in Wheaton. It shut down for a while, but according to a recent CH post, it's open again.

Pacci's Pizza
Parkway Deli

College Park area food?

I've been to Bobby's once and liked it. I'llhave to go back soon. I was very disappointed with Pizza Authentica when I tried it. Their pizza is maybe slightly better than Papa John's. I've been meaning to check out Shanghai Tokyo, but I haven't yet.

College Park area food?

Yeah. For good gyros and souvlaki, go to Marathon Deli.

College Park area food?

The last time I went to Seven Seas (a few months ago) it was horrible. I prefer Yum's Express. Even though it's one of those Chinese/steak and cheese/fried foods places, their Chinese is pretty good.

I haven't been to the new Chinese/seafood buffet (next to CDepot), but I've read some good reviews of it.

College Park area food?

I've had some good meals recently at Pho Thom. The pho is better at Pho 88 in Beltsville, but it's decent at Thom. Excellent garden rolls, and I've had good Thai fried rice and noodle dishes there.

Looney's is a decent happy hour place. $3 imports and microbrews after 2:00, with some discounted appetizers. Haven't had a full meal there (I've only gone for happy hour.)

I still like the original Three Brothers in Greenbelt. I always go the bar and get beer and pizza or shrimp and oysters. My girlfriend loves their wings but I'm not crazy about them. I like their subs too.

Mama Lucia's has decent, not great, pizza and Italian food.

You're pretty close to Hyattsville, Riverdale and Bladensburg, which have lots of Mexican and other south American places.

Pollo Fiesta in Riverdale has excellent rotisserie chicken and Mexican/South American food. And they now serve beer and wine.

There are some good taquerias south of CP on Kenilworth and Edmonston (the Edmonston that becomes 450, not the one that runs through Berwyn Heights.) Try Taqueria La Placita.

I live pretty close to Lake Artemesia as well. I often walk my dog there, and when it stays consistently warm out, I'll be biking there several days a week.

Shad Roe

Kind of out of the way for you, but Faidley's in Lexington Market usually has it.

White pizza

Pasta Plus in Laurel has excellent white pizza.

best crab cake baltimore

No mayonaise in your binder? Awesome! I hate mayo. I hate it so much that I rarely eat crab cakes, even though I usually can't taste the mayo in it. I'll have to try your recipe next summer.

Smoked Turkey

O'Brien's in Rockville (now Branded 72) used to sell them. I don't know if Branded does.

Silver Spring, MD

Pacci's for pizza. And thanks for not posting the city's name as "Silver Springs" (kind of a nitpick for me. :)

Authentic Greek Gyro in Maryland/DC/NOVA?

I don't know how authentic they are, but I love the gyros and souvlaki at the Marathon Deli in College Park.

Pizza with Cracker Like Crust

The original Ledo was the best (although, being from Laurel, I have to say that the Irish Pizza Pub was better.) I think Ledo was better when it was in Hyattsville, but it's still pretty good in College Park.

I don't know if the Stained Glass Pub in Wheaton is still around, but I can recall eating greasy, thin crust pizza (square instead of round) there in the 90s.

Pizza with Cracker Like Crust

The original Pizza Oven in Riverdale has that kind of crust. And they have some some artwork by the artist who decorated the long gone and missed Irish Pizza Pub.

Ray’s to the Third

He should open a shellfish restaurant called Ray's Or Clams.

Good place for breakfast in Greenbelt/College Park area?

If you don't mind a chain place, there's a Denny's in Greenbelt. You may want to check out Burger Delite (Beltsville and Hyattsville) and the Tastee Diner in Laurel.

Recommendations for ARundel Mills, or Columbia, Md?

A little bit south of Columbia is Pasta Plus, in Laurel. Excellent Italian and pizza.

Restaurants & Bars Featured in HBO's The Wire

There were a couple of scenes (I think in season 5, where Clay Davis meets with Freamon) filmed at The Haven.

OK, WHO is going out for dinner post earthquake this evening?

My brother took our nephew fishing yesterday. We had fresh rockfish and mackeral for dinner least night.

College Park/Greenbelt

It's a decent place for live music and a beer, but the food is pretty meh.

College Park/Greenbelt

It's been about four years since I've been there, and it wasn't worth going back to. I also loved it as a kid, especially the salad bar! I am curious about their half price burger night (I think Mondays.) I might go back one of these days to check that out.

Bobby Flay’s Burger Palace to open August 16

Check our Cafe Phillips and West Wing Cafe. Excellent sandwiches, freshly made.

College Park/Greenbelt

I prefer Pho 88 (in the PetSmart shopping center) to the place near Costco. Sardi's (Beltsville) and Pollo Fiesta (Riverdale) are good rotisserie chicken places.

I often go to the original Three Brothers (Beltway Plaza, Greenbelt) for cheap pizza, subs and beer.

Marathon Deli is still great for gyros and souvlaki. They might be closed for the summer.
