Sunday evening in Birmingham

We have only one evening in Birmingham and unfortunately it falls on a Sunday. No surprise that most places seem to be closed. Last year we had some very good fried chicken at Max's Deli. I would definitely return but would love to hear some other suggestions. Most all food types would be welcome. No chains, please. Thanks 'hounds

Sunday evening faves in Birmingham?

Stopping in Birmingham next month on a Sunday evening and we're looking for good food. Last year we went to Max's Deli and had some great fried chicken. I'd love to hear some suggestions. In my searches I see that most places are closed on Sunday (not a surprise). Any food type - no chains please. Thanks 'hounds.

Breakfast tacos - can you help a guy out?

Thanks everyone for all the recs. Follow up questions:El Taco Rico open for breakfast?I read they open at 11:00.We'll be headed out east towards Tomball after taco munch. Do you think going South (staying the nite on Sixth St.) to El Meson, La Flor or La Moreliano would be too out of the way? Thx again

Wilber's in Goldsboro vs Skylight Inn inn Ayden

if you're going to Wilber's AFTER Skylight, then the route would prob. go through the Wilson exit on I-95.Basically you could also hit B's in Greenville and Bum's in Ayden while only adding maybe an hour to the trip. Both places deserve to be on anybody's bbq bucketlist. Just sayin'

Wilber's in Goldsboro vs Skylight Inn inn Ayden

A few years back I did an intensive, one day Eastern-style sampler.Got off I-95 in Wilson to start at Parker's.Not worth it imho. Next going East to Greenville and a stop at B's. Killer sandwich and bbq chicken. Then to Bum's in downtown Ayden.Real good bbq, veggies and fried chicken. Continuing on the loop into the country for a stop at Grady's in Dudley.. Again fine bbq and friendly folks. Last stop in NC was at Wilber's in Goldsboro. Definitely lives up to the fame. Outside of the disappointment at Parker's the rest of the joints were top notch. Recommend them all without hesitation. The whole detour added about 250 miles.I got to Parker's about 9:30 and after picking up the sandwich at Wilber's I returned to I-95 about 4-5PM.Enjoy the trip.

NOLA in August.Yikes!

So Dad and his 14`yr. old daughter are off on a roadtrip. She has her mind set on NOLA. She's been to 4 Jazzfests; Dad to 24. Dad's not a big heat guy, but I couldn't dissuade her. Any suggestions on food choices that might get us out of the heat.Or other AC activities? I know Hansen's is a must. Plum St. too. Thanks, 'hounds.

Should we do SeeWee Restaurant or The Wreck?

I've whittled it down to two choices. Should we go to SeeWee Restaurant in Awendaw or The Wreck in Mt.Pleasant for a local seafood fix? Hominy Grill for lunch. Then an early dinner at...... Or another fave? Thx

Herbsaint, Clancy's, or Upperline? Oyster Po Boys. Lafayette suggestions.

BTW - Dwight's in Lafayette can't hold a candle to the two places I've mentioned. Again IMHO

Herbsaint, Clancy's, or Upperline? Oyster Po Boys. Lafayette suggestions.

Acadiana is full of top notch seafood/cajun spots. For the very best crawfish boiling points I can recommend two that IMHO outshine all the others: Hawk's in Roberts Cove (35 min. from Lafayette) and Cajun Claws in Abbeville. For years Hawk's was my undisputed fave. Now, however, Cajun Claws just may have passed Hawk's for #1. Abbeville is a lovely/big-time eatin' little city 25 min. SW of Lafayette. Google for maps/tomes/etc.

Gillette Stadium options

I've never been to Gillette Stadium and was hoping my fellow 'Hounds could help me out with food options. I'll be taking my 13 yr. old and two of her friends to a Revs game. What are the fave food options in the stadium or should we look elsewhere before we enter the grounds? Thanks everyone.

Recommendations around Breaux Bridge/New Iberia/Abbeville ?

OK I'll wade in. I've never had a bad meal at Cafe des Amis in Breaux Bridge. In New Iberia I like the crawfish at Guiding Star the best. R & M boiling point also good. I like Bon Creole in N.I. for po boys and the like. As stated earlier, best crawfish in the Abbeville area is at Cajun Claws. I think Richard's is a close second. Good crawfish at John's Seafood Patio in Erath. I'll second the oysters at DuPuy's and Shucks in Abbeville. Ponce had some nice recs for boudin. I can't help but repat myself in these threads and say that IMHO Hawk's has the best crawfish in Acadiana. Bit of a drive from Lafayette but very worth it. I've been going to Hawk's for years and I have to give props to Cajun Claws for being almost as good as Hawk's. The best way to check would be to try an order at CC's (get there at 4:30-5) and then after a nice ride thru the country try an order at Hawk's. Oh my.

Take-out in Chinatown-switch from New Shanghai?

Well, I want to thank you all for your replies. I ended up getting take-out from two spots. I stop in at Taiwan Cafe but they were closed for renovations. The owner seemed like a nice guy and recommended we try his other spot on Washington St. but since the Gourmet Dumpling Sop was around the corner and I'd never eaten their food, I tried that. Also went back to New Shanghai. I'm still attacking the haul but so far I've really enjoyed the kidney dish from G.D. Shop. Pork buns were a hit as well. The beef tendon form N.Shanghai shown. Also the Sichuan wontons were great as usual. The salt & pepper squid were real good as well. Mala kidney at N.S. also terrific. I should add that I also went to the BBQ place next to New Shanghai (below street level)(sorry I didn't get the name) and was blown away again by their duck and pork. The crispy skin of the pork is amazing! Enough food for a few days. Thx again everyone.

Duozo or Haru

Thanks everyone. Douzo it is if we do sushi. Anything else? Breasserie Jo for breakfast on our way out of town.Any more info on the Salty Pig? I'll google it. We might try to get in to Sweet Cheeks even though it would be a cab ride. Any thoughts? Oh yes, I really like breakfast at the Trident Bookstore (great brisket hash) on Newbury St. Can we do better? Thanks you guys.

Summer Shack is a possibility (been there). What do you think 'hounds? Thanks so much. It would be Dad and his not too adventurous 13 yr. old.

Take-out in Chinatown-switch from New Shanghai?

I'll be getting some take-out in Chinatown in a few days. My usual go to spot is New Shanghai. I have enjoyed much of the food from there over the years. My question is whether I should branch out to another resto. I've liked Sichuan, Shanghai, Hong Kong and a few other cuisines. If it matters, we won't get to the food for six hours or so. Fried food doesn't make it obviously. Specific food as well as any reataurants would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, hounds.
