URGENT... Haggis Wine Pairing!
This topic just popped up on my radar. The situation is long past, but I can't help thinking of the date "screaming" when informed that haggis was on the menu. Unless she was a heckuva good sport.
Where should I have lunch in little Tokyo?
For Sushi Gen get there early. There's a line.
Daikokuya isn't universally loved. OK but not great in my opinion. Like the fake postwar decor, though.
The HoseMaster of Wine [Humor]
Hmph. On the Dorothy Parker scale those would score somewhere between Yellow Tail and 2BC.
Very Oily Costco/Starbucks Coffee Beans
Normally it's the dark roasted beans that are oily. I bet yours are more than medium.
Most Divisive Restaurants?
In 'n Out. Compare to others in its category, not Father's Office/Umami, etc. It's a very good fast-food burger, plain and simple. Not, IMHO better than non-chain burger stands, but still good.
And you can order the fries extra-crisp if that's what you like.
Croatian Wine
Zinfandel's origin has been traced to Croatia so that's not impossible. Somehow it got that name in the USA .Same grape or close variant is grown as Primitivo in Italy.
Natural vs. Organic vs. Biodynamic
The "biodynamic" regimen includes some practices that are truly of a surprising nature, like the cowhorn full of manure buried at midnight under a full moon and unearthed after a fortnight (or similar, been a long time since it was explained to me).
The practices of the apostate Jeavons make a lot more sense, being lighter on the metapnysical.
What exactly is ground Kobe beef?
I'm thinkin' that Kobe may make a good burger because it's got more marbling, and thus a higher fat content in the ground beef. Low-fat burgers have less flavor.
But it's likely that it's mostly hype as others have suggested
That said, I'm at a loss as to why people insist on great beef and cover the taste up with extreme condiments. Ground ungraded chuck would do as well.
What exactly is ground Kobe beef?
I'm not even sure that "Kobe style" is from 100% pure Wagyu cattle. Well, maybe in theory, but in practice?
What Was The First Wine Advertisement That You Recall?
Man oh Manischevitz, Italian Swiss Colony, and Arthur Shields from Asti, California (but for the life of me I can't recall the brand). That was parodied as I'm Arthur Asti from Shields, California" in a drunken slur.
good, affordable food in North Hollywood?
Did anyone mention Kansas City Barbecue, Magnolia a bit east of Vineland?
Can you eat raw Pillsbury biscuit dough?
I'd guess that the baking powder would react with the acid in your stomach, giving off a bit ot carbon dioxide, maybe enough to be quite uncomfortable.
Did Your Mom Repeatedly Cook a Dish You Despised?
This strikes a chord. I hated my mom's tuna casserole because she made it with Campbell's Cream of Mushroom soup. Those mushrooms were nasty, in my jaundiced opinion. It was years before I could eat any kind of mushroom.
No noodles, rice instead. No chips, grated cheese.
Has anyone tried a wine called tribunal
I saw the 1.5 liter at the Toluca Lake (Los Angeles area) store today.
What wine with vegetable lasagne for Thanksgiving?
The question was for a wine for *this* Thanksgiving, not 5 years in the future. And the meal is apparently to some extent a potluck, as it's not the OP's recipe. Recs for over $20 Chiantis that need age would seem to miss the point.
DESPERATE for TENGU jerky!!!
Saw it in Japan a few weeks back. Labeled (in English) Product of Argentina.
Desperate Search for Water Buffalo Cream (called Kaymak or Gaimar)
Huell Howser did an episode on a herd of water buffaloes somewhere in L A county, used to produce mozarella. Anyone know if they are still around?
I need a good recipe for grilled whole turkey
I've done this a few times in a 22" Weber kettle and the results were generally good. No real recipe, just salt the bird well before starting. Do not stuff, BTW.
I start out with enough coals to cover the grid less than 2 layers thick. That's before lighting. Start the coals and place in a ring on the outer part of the grid, center clear. You may put a pie pan in the middle to control the drips. Place the bird breast-up in the center of the grill, cover, and check back in maybe a half-hour and periodically after. When the coals seem to be exhausted put fresh ones in to replace them (you'll need somehwere tp out the grill with bird on top to get access, of course). Not too may coals in the beginning or on replacement. You don't want enough heat to burn things.
Sometime around when the second batch of coals is consumed start checking for doneness, either with a thermometer of the "jab with a fork and check the juice for color" method. Thermometer might be the better way, as you risk a slightly underdone bird with the clear-juice method (experience).
Seems to be somewhat faster than an oven and the whole bird is moist, no dry breast and red thigh. Maybe because the heat is held closely around the bird or because of no pan shielding the bottom of the bird. I've only done around 20 pounders, not sure if there's room for a bigger one.
Can I freeze a whole bottle of wine without doing the ice cube thing
Excellent idea. My sister did something similar with stewed garden tomatoes, freezing the quantity used in her "red sauce" in single Ziplocs.
Native New Yorker moving to LA - hancock park/larchmont village area and need some recs in the hood!
Well, price was someone else's department and there was a plenitude of wine, plus the company was good, so I was not inclined to be critical of the food.
Native New Yorker moving to LA - hancock park/larchmont village area and need some recs in the hood!
On Larchmont, a sidewalk table at Le Petit Greek. I know next to nothing about Greek food, but the people-watching on a Saturday afternoon is great.
(Indended as a reply to OP, not Katydid13)
Overpriced wine in Toronto (moved from Ontario board)
Sounds like you're saying the food is sold at a loss and they are making it up on the wine.
ISO restaurant recs near Universal but not on City Walk
Kansas City BBQ on Magnolia near Vineland. Pretty informal, though.

Do you pronounce the "t" in moet?
I read Deppity Dawg's post as a riff on the Moët discussion, the clincher being the dots over the X, which doesn't happen in the real world. Joke, in other words.
Bone-In Lamb Shoulder?
Maybe the Grand Central Market downtown? Haven't been there in years, but do remember the sheeps' heads staring out of the meat case.

Do you pronounce the "t" in moet?
Disregarding the T, the diaresis over the E might be necessary, or in Dutch the name would be pronounced "Moot", rhyming roughly with boot.
Best Fish and Chips?
The North Hollywood H Salt is dire. Batter crisp outside and gummy inside. Bleah! Oil not hot enough?
