Late night bar, Portland - westside, Sunday nights

Ringside and Clyde Common are the way to go. If you don't like one, the other is a ten minute walk or one minute drive away.

Crispo

Thanks for the great response. We went to Lupa the last time we were in the city two years ago! Needless to say, we're looking for somewhere different.

Crispo

We were thinking of making a 6:30 reservation for a group of 6 at Crispo before a 9:00 set at the Village Vanguard. I've heard some nice things on this board, but have seen mixed reviews elsewhere.

Whaddya think?

And if not Crispo, how about another reservation. We're fun-loving, and half of us are from out of town - Maybe Spice Market?

European visiting Portland

One big thing in Portland these days is cocktails and mixed drinks. For the best of those, and great food as well, you'll want to consider Clyde Common and Ten01.

portland dim sum

House of Louie in Chinatown has a nice dim sum service, as does Fong Chong across the street. Wong's King is good to (pretty much only for dim sum though) - however, they have received some substandard health dept reports over the past few years I understand.

Heart-healthy choices in PDX

Higgins is exactly what you're after. Steak for the guys and no salt, no red meat, no animal fats for you. You'll love it.

Dinner and jazz tonight (Fr)?

Arturo's is a great call for the teenagers who will have a hard time keeping their mouth shut.

For very good food, beautiful ambiance, and top-notch jazz, consider Lincoln Center's club, Dizzy's, in the Time Warner Building at Columbus Circle.

Just Dis-placed From Portland to Salem....

And if you're willing to drive, downtown Woodburn has some excellent informal Mexican at Luis's and the bakery place one street over.

Per Se Awesome!

It bothers me if I'm paying $20 a meal, but at that price, the food is the spotlight, and so, I suppose it engenders a detailed description of what your paying your $300 for...

Visting Seattle and Portland in Mid October

Seeing as you're from North Carolina, and live informal places, I'd suggest you try Apizza Scholls for pizza and some of the great taco places in Portland. The truck at Killingsworth and Interstate is fabulous. Also, Por Que No (Alberta and Hawthorne locations) is a good one.

Portland restaurant recommendations

If you're not going to provide more info on your interests, location etc, or scroll the boards to find out a little more about what people have recommended in the past, I'll just say go to Lauro. But you'll need a reservation there. I was shut out of there on a Sunday cuz I didn't have one.

Pizza in Manhattan

Take a cab to Patsy's.

Solo in portland

I agree with all sentiments too. Also Nostrana has a nice open kitchen counter which would be fun for a solo diner.

Classy Meat and Potatoes in PDX

Ringside steakhouse, or for more expensive and refined than that, El Gaucho. $250 should do the trick for two people including cocktails and wine.

Best steakhouse for a birthday dinner?

Sounds like he'd like Luger's - but it's in Brooklyn. Take $300 cash from the bank machine, don't tell him where you're going, get in the cab and tell the driver, then let your boyfriend in the cab, service him, and go to Peter Luger's. He'll have the best night of his life.

Bagels & Lox near Times Square?

But back to Times square - is TS Hot bagel any good? Because that's the only place thats actually in the vicinity the OP specified.

Pizza in Portland

Not sure it's the same place, but a Taste Bud Farm makes, and sells, killer bagels at the Hillsdale Farmers Market. However, there, they don't sell pizza, so I'm a bit confused...

Eating in Oregon

Yeah, seriously. For example, if you were into beer, we'd send you to Golden Valley (Mcminnville), Deschutes (Bend) and Rogue (Newport). But you gotta give a little more info holmes....

Portland Picky Diners

Red Star Tavern and Roast House is just what you're looking for. For Italian, you're looking for Pazzo's.

What's your hot weather cocktail favorite?

Lemonade and bourbon. If you have some mint growing, toss some leaves in. In a half-gallon container, mix equal parts bourbon, lemonade and ice. Better the lemonade the better the drink!

BERKSHIRE MOUNTAIN DISTILLERS

Sorry -- may have spoken too soon. I think I was confusing them with the Mohawk line of alcohol products.

BERKSHIRE MOUNTAIN DISTILLERS

They all suck, but if you want the least bad of the worst, go weith the vodka, and mix it with something sweet. I find tonic to be as good as anything, but OJ is also fun.

SW Portland Musts

There are so many "MUSTS" that you just need to focus on neighborhoods. Head straight north from PSU, and you'll get to the Pearl District. I like "df," the fantastic Mexican joint with a killer bar. You like a good bar, don't you WannaB?

Andina is of course a classic for ceviche and cocktails.

If you're a beer fan, you'll need to RUN, not walk, to Deschutes Brewery in the Pearl. I like Mcmenamins, but the true beer fans all swear by Deschutes. Listen WannaB, you really should try a couple of Black Butte Porters and then get back to me. Or better yet, head over to Jimmy Maks, also in the Pearl, for some of the best jazz in the U.S. -- as recommended by Downbeat Magazine. Enjoy my friend, enjoy!!!

Traverse City and Interlochen

I've heard Rounds is good for breakfast, but I don't know if they're still open.

Traverse City and Interlochen

"A cherry shake at Don's has so many pieces of fruit in it that they inevitably get caught in the straw and clog it."
- Michael Stern (Spendid Table, Roadfood)

Bourbon vs. Tennessee whiskey

Excuse me, TNBourbon, but could you please post just a few of the whiskey's that are better than Jack for the same price? That would help us all out a lot. Thanks.

Howz TAD's?

Tad's is such a classic New York place, but I've never been, or talked to anyone who's been. Just go, and please report back.

Italian Dinner for 20 PDX

PDX means Portland.

I'd suggest Pazzo. Ask about their cellar room in the basement. Perfect for aging athletes who like wine. 20 might be too large for the room, but you really should check because it is a very cool space.

Tequila and Coke? WT?

I had one of these last night with Herradura blanco. Filled tall glass with ice. Poured in two shots of blanco. Juice of one fresh lime over that. Sprinkle of salt over that. Topped off with coke. It was actually quite good.

Kenny & Zuke's Disappointment

Makes you wonder what Chef Ramsey (Hell's Kitchen) would have done in that situation!
