Vegetarian in the Annapolis Area

I've had good luck at Level in Annapolis. There are lots of seasonal vegetarian options and it's small plates, so it's good for sharing. They are only open for dinner, though.

Networking breakfast in Rockville

Timpano hosts networking events but I don't know about breakfast. Maybe call and ask? There is a nice private room.

Frederick best restaurant (dinner for a group)

The Tasting Room isn't on opentable, so I'm not sure which reviews you're referring to. We go to Monocacy Crossing more frequently than the Tasting Room and the two restaurants are pretty different. The Tasting Room has more refined cooking (in my opinion) while Monocacy Crossing tends to lean more toward comfort foods done well. They're both good in their own right, it just depends on what kind of food and atmosphere you're looking for that night. The Tasting Room is very loud with tables close together, but we like that when we feel like having a more "lively" night out.

The only way the Tasting Room could accommodate a group of 14 is in their private room. Monocacy Crossing has more options for seating large parties.

Rooftop Resturant in DC/Metro Area?

Ardeo/Bardeo in Cleveland Park has a rooftop. Don't know about the city view, though. I really enjoyed my meal last time we were there.

Classier Chinese Restaurant for a Post Wedding Ceremony Meal

The hosts have offered Americanized Chinese at the events I've attended there, so I'm not sure if there is an authentic menu or not. The OP would have to call and ask. I thought it fit the bill in terms of decor/atmosphere which is why I suggested it.

Classier Chinese Restaurant for a Post Wedding Ceremony Meal

Maybe Far East on Nicholson Lane? I've been to a few events in their upstairs private rooms, and it might be more of the atmosphere you're looking for.

Any ideas of a classy retirement party evening near tysons (ideas on how to set it up)

I don't know if they have a private room, but maybe Panache?

Anything chowish near Seven Locks Road and Tuckerman Lane? Monday lunch.

Wild Tomato, a bistro from the owner of Persimmon in Bethesda, recently opened in Cabin John. I haven't been yet so I can't attest to how it is, but it's another option in that area.

Good Chinese takeout in Germantown/Gaithersburg?

Mr. K's Chinese Cafe next to the Lancaster County Dutch Market is reliable. I tend to stick with their Thai options but my husband is always happy with the Chinese choices. I always have to get the papaya salad. It's delicious. I've heard good things about Peking Palace in the Lotte shopping center but we haven't been yet.

Any decent pizza in upper Montgomery County?

Fat Tony's (run out of Cafe Mileto) is pretty good. It's delivery/carry-out only. The pizza served in the restaurant is not the same and not worth ordering. It's also buy one get one free so you can't beat the price. Just make sure to ask for it well done or it can be a little soupy in the middle (for my taste anyway).

Ideas for lunch on Saturday

We only ate dessert and breakfast there this trip but we have eaten from their bar menu in the past. The dinner menu always looks great, and in hindsight we probably would have had a better experience there last night than we did at the restaurant we chose. There was a wedding at the Palomar last night and we overheard guests raving about it at breakfast this morning. Stop by and try it out!

Ideas for lunch on Saturday

Thanks for all of the suggestions! We went to Pizzeria Paradiso and had a great lunch.

Ideas for lunch on Saturday

Thanks for the idea. After looking at the menu there are too many things I wouldn't be able to eat or would need to change due to food allergies (nuts & capers). Any other ideas?

Ideas for lunch on Saturday

My husband and I are spending the night at the Palomar on Saturday. We already have dinner reservations but are looking for ideas for lunch before we check in. It can be pretty much anywhere in DC, but easy parking would be a bonus. I'm pescatarian and my husband eats meat. Any ideas? (Yes, we know about Urbana next door but would like to try something different:))

Anniversary dinner in early July

So we actually ended up at Mistral and had a lovely meal. I made a note on our reservation to let them know about my allergies and that we were celebrating our anniversary. Service was attentive but not obtrusive. I really appreciated that our server mentioned that she was aware of my allergies. I started with a chilled summer corn soup and he started with the ricotta gnocchi. I almost had to stop myself from licking the bowl. The hint of chili oil really helped to heighten the sweetness of the corn.

My husband had the pan roasted halibut with lobster and asparagus risotto. I tried a bite and the fish was perfectly cooked. I had the grilled salmon with chanterelles and sweet corn succotash. My fish was also cooked perfectly but I didn't really like the amount of butter in the succotash. It kind of overwhelmed the flavors of the vegetables and made the dish a little too rich for me to fully enjoy, but my husband loved it and thought it was more flavorful than his dish.

I was too full for dessert so we asked for the check and our server brought a serving of sorbet with "Happy Anniversary" written on the plate after the check was paid which we thought was very kind and thoughtful. It turned out that I still had a little room for the refreshing strawberry/rhubarb, pineapple & lemon sorbet. The manager (?) took the time to come to our table and wish us well on our anniversary. While I was in the restroom he was chatting with my husband and offered for their car service to drop us at our hotel. The back of a Cadillac sedan definitely beat the back of a cab :)

All in all, it was a wonderful experience and I really commend Mistral on their level of service and ability to make a special meal for us feel even more special. Thanks to everyone who contributed ideas. We look forward to trying more of your suggestions on our next trip!

Anniversary dinner in early July

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions! I made a reservation at Sorellina and hopefully it will be a stellar experience. Otherwise, I'm with my husband in Boston for our anniversary meal---how can it be a bad experience? :)

Anniversary dinner in early July

Wow, what are the odds? Good to know about No.9. That was my husband's least favorite of the options I've been looking at anyway so I"ll cross it off the list for dinner. Am I missing something on Erbaluce's website or do they not have a sample menu online?

The menu at Prezza does look great and it would probably be my husband's first choice. The thing is (and it's selfish, I know) that we will be spending the following night at Foxwoods so he can play poker and we'll most likely be eating at one of the Italian restaurants there per his request, so I'm leaning toward making our dinner in Boston lean more toward my preferences. Not to mention we'll be spending the previous three nights at my mother-in-law's house where you would think the food groups are meat, potatoes, butter and sour cream, but I digress...

Thank you for all of the recommendations so far!

Anniversary dinner in early July

Hi everyone! I would really appreciate your help in finding a great restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. My husband and I will be in town on a Tuesday night in early July. We're staying at the Nine Zero hotel on Tremont street. I've been searching this board and have a few options but would like your expertise.

We are in our early thirties and we usually enjoy Italian and seasonal new American food. We do have a few restrictions, however. I'm pescetarian but have been leaning more toward vegetarian choices lately. I also am allergic to nuts, capers & poppy seeds. My husband tends to like pretty basic food and loves meat and seafood. I would say he's more into rustic cooking than refined. He has a big appetite but he will eat more restrained portion sizes for our celebratory meals. We don't tend to fare very well at restaurants that specialize in tasting menus because of the aforementioned restrictions.

My mother in law recommended Mistral, and I like the menus at No.9 Park and Sorellina. Any other recommendations? We don't mind taking a cab and cost isn't much of an issue for this meal, although it would be nice to keep it around $200 with a few drinks.

If you're at all familiar with the DC dining scene, places we have enjoyed in the past are Zola, Vermilion, The Oval Room, PassionFish and Volt. We loved Branzino and Meritage in Philadelphia.

Also, any recommendations for a place where we can walk to grab a drink and a snack after we check in at the hotel?

I would really appreciate any suggestions you can provide!

Returning to Baltimore for a weekend away - where to eat?

We just ate at Sotto Sopra this weekend. Delicious and a great atmosphere. Service left a little to be desired, however. Our server was a bit humorless and MIA for awhile, but it didn't affect the quality of our meal. My husband had one of the specials. I believe it was a pork chop which he said was cooked perfectly. I had a roasted beet pasta which tasted great but was seriously bright red which could be a little offputting visually. They do simple very well--I started with an insalata mista which was seasoned and dressed perfectly and was easily the best salad of its kind I've had in awhile.

Center City in April (help, please!)

Thank you for all of the suggestions so far. I'll check them out over the next few days.

Center City in April (help, please!)

Yes! I was on the Kimpton website before writing this post and was reading about the Monaco in Baltimore. Thanks for catching my mistake!

Center City in April (help, please!)

This board has been very helpful in the past, so I thought I would turn to it again before our next trip up to Philly. I have read many similar posts to what I'm about to ask, but I would really appreciate advice pertaining to our particular situation.

My husband and I (I am 29, he is 34) are coming up for 4 nights in the beginning of April and staying at the Hotel Monaco. We are staying at the Borgata on a Wednesday night and then driving to the Monaco on Thursday morning and checking out on Sunday.

On our previous trips we have enjoyed: lunch at Reading Terminal Market (although a little overwhelming!), afternoon drinks at Parc, dinner at Buddakan, dinner at Branzino, evening drinks at the bar at the Sofitel and dessert at Capogiro. These were all great experiences (except for the fact that my husband ordered a side of pasta with meat sauce at Branzino and was a little surprised when it showed up as $18 on the bill, but we use it as a lesson to ask about the cost of items not mentioned on the menu :)

We have been to the Italian market and Pats/Genos, were told to go to South Street and sat on the patio and had drinks at Bridget Foy's, stopped at Continental and Davio's after dinner one night, and also had dinner at Friday Saturday Sunday. While these experiences were fine, we don't feel the need to repeat any of them.

On our agenda for this trip: lunch at Monk's (his choice), dinner at Buddakan (his choice) a southern Italian dinner (his choice), wine/snacks/lunch? at Tria (my choice).

I was thinking Caffe Casta Diva for our Italian meal? The third dinner will be my choice and I really like the menu at Melograno but would prefer somewhere that takes reservations. I generally like contemporary American, northern Italian and Mediterranean flavors. It gets a little complicated because I don't eat poultry or red meat and I have food allergies (nuts & capers), so restaurants with limited menus (like James, for instance) can be a little tricky. My husband isn't exactly an adventurous eater but over the years I've gotten him to appreciate quality over quantity :)

We don't mind taking cabs although we generally prefer to walk. BYOB is fine but not a must-have. We usually end up spending around $100 for dinner (more if not BYOB), and last time Buddakan was around $200 including tip, so we would prefer our other dinners to be a little less costly.

I know this is a LOT of information to process (and thanks for reading this far!), but I would really appreciate any guidance/suggestions/recommendations you can give. In exchange, I promise to give a full report after our trip! :)

Sabai Sabai Simply Thai in Germantown

I've been a few times and have enjoyed it. I can't really comment on much of the menu because I don't eat meat but I really liked the veg/seafood dishes I tried. One surprise was the crab fried rice. My husband wanted it and I didn't because I usually find fried rice to be greasy and heavy. Their version is extremely light and fluffy and I couldn't get enough. We even got it in addition to our entrees the second time we went. The space is totally transformed from the French Quarter that used to be there. If it's windy out ask for a table away from the door because there isn't much protecting the front of the dining room from the cold/wind.
