2013 Food and Restaurant CHANGES and CLOSINGS Little House of Kabobs at Yonge/Dundas Dragon Boat in Thornhill, and Cafe Cogo (same owners, but it appears there's been a split). |

2012 Food and Restaurant CHANGES and CLOSINGS Gill at Yonge and St. Clair has closed. It's a dumpling shop now. |

2012 Food and Restaurant CHANGES and CLOSINGS Garlic Pepper at Yonge and Wellesley has been vacated, with "For Sale" signs in the window. Also, Biscotti on Bay Street just North of Wellesley shuttered and turned into "Portobello" overnight. I don't see a huge difference. |

Sadly, Richman's Bakery has closed. It's a bad week for independent bakeries in the City of Toronto. |

Honey's Beestro at Avenue and Lawrence has closed. |

Looks like the Southside Grill in Forest Hill Village is finished. Overpriced, even by neighborhood standards. I don't think that it ever found it's niche. |

Chimichanga in Yorkville has bitten the dust. Big "For Lease" sign. I can't imagine why that location would have worked. |

Lobby on Bloor Street across from the ROM has finally closed. Repeated attempts to sell overly cute, pretentious food and drinks with obscene markups to the hotel crowd. Not sorry to see it go. Unfortunately, it's turning into a Gabby's pub, which means that the Gabby's pub two doors down will also be closing. |

There is a truly cursed spot on Yonge north of Wellesley. The building was carelessly painted a gaudy yellow; paint is spattered all over the upper windows. At street level, the only activity was a sign promising the arrival of a middle-eastern/pizza buffet (???) but apart from some jumbled equipment visible through yellowing newsprint that apapered over the space, it never came to pass. More recently, the ground floor was repainted adobo red, and a new sign and equipment announced "Chiltepe Mexican Chili and Burritos". I must have walked by a million times without noticing that it was open. More recently, Chiltepe was joined by "Mom's Jerk" a Carribbean place that apparently winked in and out of existence out-of-town. i walked into mom's jerk to find the place mostly empty and smelling of disinfectant. There was nobody working at the mexican counter, and no food for sale at Mom's jerk, other than a few sad patties. Two weeks ago, a new sign appeared in the window. "FOR LEASE". Rest in Peace, Jerk-Mom, and you phantom prince of chili, wherever you are... |

Well, they're both gone now, with a large "business for sale" sign in the front window. |

Ken Fong at Bathurst and Eglinton is finished; an all-you-can-eat sushi place is opening in its place. ----- |
