Chicago this weekend with foodie kids...suggestions?

Hi all,
We are heading to Chicago on a last-minute trip this weekend and bringing our kids along. The kids are fantastic in restaurants and are adventurous with food (they are 7 and 4 but very well behaved). We'll be staying at the Palmer House (thank you Priceline!) and are looking for some good places for breakfast/lunch/dinner and will have a car. We can eat early to beat the rush. Any ideas? We take them to fine restaurants in our area (Ann Arbor, MI) but it's a small town compared to Chi-town and the rules may be different.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Foodie Fri and Sat nights in Toronto

We're popping up from Michigan for a conference and would love to try some fantastic fare in Toronto. We are an omnivorous group of four, staying in the city, will have a car. Not looking for the most expensive meal we can find, but just the best places to go have a great meal. Thanks for any guidance you can offer!

Potent Potables in Ann Arbor

I think the public can park at the UM Forest parking lot on S. Univ...I'd love to shop at VC more but I am a loyal M&Yer too.

If not lunch, wine and tasty snacks?

Ok, so my husband and I are flying in for a night of food and fun, but I am realizing we get into O'Hare at "12:30", which means any time after 12:30 in the midwest in the winter, esp coming from Detroit. I am going to make plans for lunch, but most places close at 2:30 latest and I need a plan B in case our flight is late.

We are staying at the James and I am looking for a great place for wine and food (doesn't have to be a full lunch) for the middle of the afternoon on Saturday. Swishy, fun, sexy are the themes of this night, so I'd like to set the stage with a great afternoon.

I've never stayed at the James, so I don't know what is in the area. Ideas? Thanks!

Getaway lunch on Saturday 12/15

I am stealing my wonderful husband away for a night (booked the sitter, bought the airline tix, got a room, have dinner reservations at Trotters--yes, Alinea was booked...shocker) but we eat really late at CTs (9:15p) and I want to take the opportunity to have a great lunch somewhere. I'd love to have something asian (we loved the Slanted Door in San Francisco) but am open to any and all suggestions, as long as they aren't the same thing we'll eat later that night. We will be staying at the James, although we'd cab a bit.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your help.

Holy Chowhounding!

My husband and I just returned from 4 fantastic days in SF thanks to this community. Every meal was fantastic and every recommendation came from Chowhound. Truly an incredible resource, many thanks!

A rundown of where we went:

Night 1:
Cortez (at our hotel, we were beat and the meal was very good)

Day 2:
Brunch at Bar Tartine (oooh, the duck hash....the blue bottle coffee...the crepes...)
Dinner at Salt House (picked by a friend. Good, but not my fav)

Day 3:
Lunch at Slanted Door (fan-tastic...what a wine list too. Perfect pairings, loved eating at the bar!)
Dinner at Range (cocktails to die for, tuna tartare, hanger steak...)

Day 4:
Lunch again at Slanted Door (husband didn't get to go the day before...twist my arm!)
Dinner at La Ciccia (could these people be any nicer? The $40 Sardinian wine that was delicious--the lovely woman who works there recommended it...the chef bringing out marvelous Sardinian goat ricotta...I was in love.)

I walked from Union Square to Hayes Valley to score some Blue Bottle beans to bring home.

What a fantastic trip.

Thank you, thank you!

Fran.

Small Kitchen DIY Fixes: Submit Your Stories

Our kitchen sits above our basement where we do laundry. I had the contractor cut a hole in the floor under the sink and install as small lid and I use it to drop dirty dishrags down. So convenient! We also did a lot of using of the walls for things like knives, etc. IKEA has some great storage stuff along those lines.

4 days to eat in SF...where to go?

My husband and I are adventurous eaters living in a not-fab food area in the mid-west and will be traveling to SF for food and work (in that order!). We need suggestions on where to go as it's been years since I've been there.

The restaurants need not be the most prestigious (although those suggestions are welcome as well...), but just fantastic ;).

We'll be staying in Union Square, but will go anywhere around the city.

Thanks for your advice!
