Any BYOB retaurants in LA?

Cafe Bella Roma on Robertson has very low corkage.

Serving Spoon – Inglewood

We love it there and pop in at least once a month. Best grits in town. They also have some of the best sausage for breakfast - chicken, turkey, and beef. Very friendly and attentive service.

HELP! Cheap (but good) eats in Beverly Hills near Wilshire & La Cienega?

Another vote for India's Grill. Love that place and their lunch specials are great - big portions and quality food.

Jury duty in Inglewood

Mutiara is great. Prices are low and portions are a decent size. The owner is great about making suggestions based on preferences. If I'm ever having a major soup craving, this place is one of the top on my list.

Yacht Chef looking for best markets/gourmet shops/wine shops....

Agree - and as far as prepared foods go the tacos are killer. HUGE and cheap.

I also really like the very herby mixed green salad that the herb vendor carries as well as their very unique mint plant hybrid, but there was one week where they weren't there so I don't know if they are there every week.

This isn't close to MDR, but a worthwhile stop. Great imported meat and cheese. Plus you can grab a quick sandwich (cheap) while you wait.

If you're reading this and are around tomorrow morning (Sunday), the Mar Vista Farmer's Market is one of the best in the city, IMHO, and there's a seafood vendor. Not too far from MDR.

Where is your Favorite... Salad in LA?

I haven't seen it mentioned, but Westside Tavern has some good salads. I'm partial to butter lettuce, so I really dig their shrimp salad:

Kalamata Olives | Pepperoncini | Tarragon Vinaigrette

Another vote for Mrs. Winstons. Best variety.

Your favorite restaurants for healthy food

Stuff I Eat in Inglewood on Market. Food is made with such care, and the flavors are amazing. I balked at going to a vegan restaurant but I'm so glad I finally did. I'm shocked they're not more popular.

Mexican Coca Cola Alert

The actual Inglewood Costco stopped carrying it, but the BUSINESS Costco (that you can enter with a regular Costco membership card) still carries it. The Business Center Costco is very close to the Inglewood Costco:
12530 Prarie Ave
Hawthorne, CA 90250

I didn't even know this kind of Costco existed until I started hunting for Mexican Coke. Now I sometimes prefer to shop there if I know I don't need anything specific to the regular Costco. It doesn't have the same products and is more geared toward businesses, but it's practically empty and always easy to park.

yee's on slauson

It's definitely...an experience. We live not too far from there and have picked up the food as takeout. If you want heavily-corn-starched-highly-Americanized Chinese food, it hits the spot. Big portions of cheap, goopy food. Otherwise, it's not very good for much of anything. Definitely not a spot to dine in. Though the bulletproof glass adds ambience.

PA2GH - New Persian in West LA

I'm Iranian, and I've never heard of doogh with meat. MEAT?!?! Odd.

Recs for good eats in Inglewood

I like Aliki's, and while their quality was decent I thought the prices were a bit steep. Three of us dined there a while back, and I think all we had were 3 entrees and we split a salad. The bill with tip came out to something like $80. Considering the lack of atmosphere there, and how no-frills it is, I felt like it was a bit excessive. Don't get me wrong: I will routinely fork over $100 or more just for the two of us to dine. But the price point here didn't feel like it matched the actual meal. Also, comparing just the Greek salad to other places, I know I've had better. I think Sofi's Greek salad is much more delicious (but incidentally also a bite overpriced).

We will probably still go back, but it's not on our list of MUST GO places.

Best Lunch Specials in West L.A

Have you tried any of the Indian places on the west side? Portions are usually huge.

Is there a better sandwich place than Bay Cities???

I enjoy Bay Cities too. Once in a blue moon, I get a killer craving for a Godmother.

For a change of pace, if you're ever in the area I highly recommend Artisan Cheese Gallery.

I've tried a few of their sandwiches, but am partial to the duck confit.

I happened to drive past the Centinela location a few nights ago, and it looked closed.

A few weeks ago we went to the Lennox location of Mariscos Chente, and man was it delicious. The place itself is pretty much dive-y, but the service was super friendly and the food was excellent. I had the whole fried fish, and it was perfectly seasoned and crispy. My dining companions also said their entrees were great. They didn't have much in the way of beer, but somehow the Tecate was perfect for the meal and hit the spot.

I'm going to have to try the Centinela location now.

Awesome breakfasts in LA, I can name two. How about you?

After driving to The Griddle and not wanting to wait an hour for a table went to Blu Jam on Melrose for the first time this weekend, and it was excellent. Their French toast (Blu Toast) was divine. "French toast layered with blackberry jam & cream cheese, topped with bananas and powdered sugar." The description doesn't do it justice.

Their California omelette was one of the best I've ever had too.

Thanks for this post, I hadn't seen that. We will have to try some of those places.

So we've tried a few more places. The Crab Pit, which I started its own thread about. It was horrible. Beyond horrible.

This week we tried New Flavors on Centinela. It's a combination of Hawaiian BBQ and Chinese food (of the Americanized variety). It was pretty good. Not the best Hawaiian BBQ I've had, but definitely not bad. Their Americanized Chinese is better than most, too. Service was excellent, plus they deliver. We'll be going back.

Bars with good, or at least good for what it is, food.

We've had great food at Tompkins Square.

Their website is horrible, I wish they'd update it. But the food is excellent.

Mexican Coca Cola Alert

The Inglewood Costco always has them in stock.

Organic Restaurant Needed

I think M Cafe de Chaya is pretty laid back, and offers some good choices. I don't remember if they have beef, but I know they serve fish so they're not vegetarian/vegan.

BBQ Rib Smackdown

I'm shocked that Porky's didn't make the list. I'd venture a guess that it would come in somewhere in the top 3.

mmm looking for a good liver and onions plate

Daily Grill used to make a great version of calves liver and onions. They also added bacon if you asked. Might be worth a call to one of their branches.

If you want the soul food version, Venni Mac's M&M Soul Food on Centinela just west of La Cienega makes a decent version.

rec needed -- indian food near pico and la cienega?

I ditto the rec for India's Grill. I think it's pretty solid.

Pickling Cucumbers

One of the Persian markets. Elat Market on Pico. Or if you're closer to Westwood, Jordan Market.

Gyenari - Korean BBQ in Culver City

Any particular recommendations? I think we might give this place a try.
