Costco Food Finds - 4th Quarter 2014

I sampled the french flatbreads last week and they do taste very close to the Tarte d'Alsace...I'll have to go back and buy some.

What's for Dinner #333 - The end of Daylight Savings Time Edition [through Nov. 10, 2014]

I was planning a roast chicken with roast veggies-having a lazy weekend after way too much going on the last few weeks, but husband wants to grill so I'm brining that chicken and I think he'll spatchcock it on the girll. May still do roasted veggies on the side. Lots of rainbow carrots and potatoes of different sizes and varieties; any other great ideas?

Help me find the world's best cheddar cheese spread!

Yay! Glad to see someone else who shares the love! It's been a few years since I first posted-any new discoveries? I found the Cabot horseradish spread once and it was great-really sharp and spicy-but I haven't been able to find it locally again.

Jamming, canning and preserving 2014

I make a blueberry vanilla syrup and it's so good! This is a reminder-haven't made it in awhile. My brother-in-law actually likes to brush it on grilled salmon though I use it mainly with ice cream, pancakes, and soda water.

Weight Watcher's Foodies -- June is Busting Out All Over! June 2014 Edition [OLD]

I held steady this week-I have been vaguely paying attention, and I sure feel like I eat less than I used to-but I'm kind of at a plateau. Better than gaining, right? My teenaged daughter and I leave in about ten days for London and Paris, and one of my motivators for joining WW was to lose weight before this trip, and to be able to not feel guilty if I splurge while on vacation, especially in Paris :). Going to try and focus on my rule about not eating it if I don't think it's worth it, but on this trip I'm guessing a lot more will be worth it than my day to day life!

I really like Ellie Krieger's recipes in general-healthy and flavorful-and her chicken with peanut sauce is great. Feeling inspired now :).

Jamming, canning and preserving 2014

Sure! I use this: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/jalapeno...

However, I usually use pomona pectin or do the lower sugar alternative on the Ball website, as too much sugar makes the spice less noticeable. This time, I used Ball classic pectin, with 8 cups fruit, 6 c sugar, and about two cups chopped unseeded jalapenos....gelled fine.

Jamming, canning and preserving 2014

Just getting started this year. U-picked strawberries last weekend and did a double batch of spicy strawberry jalapeƱo jam. It's everyone's favorite-give it away and folks usually use with cream cheese or goat cheese as an app.

Hits and Misses from Smitten Kitchen Cookbook

My teenaged daughter and I made the gougeres yesterday, though I subbed a mix of parm and sharp cheddar as we aren't blue cheese fans. They were very good-a little simpler to make than the recipe I used before (using the mixer to add the eggs to the hot flour mixture was much easier on my arm) and people devoured them.

Also made the double chocolate banana bread from her website and it was fantastic!

Weight Watcher's Foodies -- Spring Fling Edition! May 2014 [old]

Wow! Great job on the 1/2!!!! I'm so impressed. I need to get back on tracking, too. I'm down .4 this week, so not awful, but think I really need to track to get back on it. My teenager and I will join my husband for London and Paris this summer-my goal is to go into that trip with a good loss on the books so I don't have to stress about food while I'm there!

I struggle with breakfast, too, as I've mentioned before, esp since I don't like eggs or yogurt :/. My very favorite is a toasted sandwich thin, with a laughing cow chipotle wedge, sliced radish, and some herb salad mix. It's delicious and feels satisfying-lots of texture and crunch and flavor. On my travel days, it's often a string cheese and an apple, though :/

Also love the Kashi Go Lean crunch and TJ's sells a similar high protein, crunchy cereal. Both fill me up for about 5 points.

Best gluten-free yellow cake mix?

Bob's Red Mill sells a GF cake mix. We haven't tried it-I have one sitting in my cupboard, though-but reviews on Amazon are great.

COTM (Cookbook of the Month) Recipes So Good You've Made Them at Least Three Times: Quick and Easy/Weeknight Edition

I have finally created a google document with a list of main courses, alphabetical, note if it's easy, vegetarian, gluten free. If it's online, I link to the recipe right there. The other half of my "what to cook" planning is Pinterest: I have a board called "Things to cook" and I pin anything that looks interesting there (I've been doing a lot reading down this thread). When I finally cook something from that list, I move it to a board called "Things I've Cooked" (I'm very creative!) and write a note about how it went. I'm very disorganized in general, but this is working for me much better than files, and loose pieces of paper.

Trader Joe's YAY/NAY - April 2014 [OLD]

Thanks for the recommendation for the Healthy 8. I picked that up and made a huge salad with lots of brown rice, a pound of shredded poached chicken I had in the freezer, and a light vinaigrette. Delicious! Everyone, even the kids, ate lots, and it felt filling and healthy. I'll definitely be getting that regularly.

Also tried the dried mandarins someone recommend-holy crap, those are great! I love sour candies-these will be my future movie theater go-to snack, since they scratch the same itch.

Weight Watchers Foodies -- No Fooling, It's the April Edition!

Recovered in about 24 hours...down a total of 8 at weigh in today from my start 8 weeks ago so feeling good about it!. I'm not tracking much-my vague plan is to be really thoughtful about my food choices most of the time, and if I gain, I make myself go back to tracking. Working so far. Now that the weather's nice, hoping to really up my activity level.

Favorite thing I made-or really, assembled-this week was using a chopped raw veggie mix they sell in a tub at Trader Joe's-super 8 or something? Anyway, combined a tub of those with brown rice, shredded chicken I had in the freezer (froze a bunch in one pound bags) and a vinaigrette...super tasty, filling, healthy, easy...even kids ate. Today I added the last little bit to a bunch of lettuce and tossed-still yummy :). Sushi tonight to celebrate DH's new job-new sushi place to us that's pretty high end, so I imagine I'll stay on track, partly because it's sushi and partly because it's expensive.

I love those citrus gum drops, too...can't buy them most the time cause I'll eat way too many. They are my go-to candy to sneak into movie theaters :)

Weight Watchers Foodies -- No Fooling, It's the April Edition!

Down 1.2 at weigh in yesterday, which was better than I had feared definitely (especially since I had a really nice dinner out with friends the night before). And then came home and got struck down with an awful stomach virus-a horrible 24 hours, especially since it was a beautiful saturday. Bright side-down 2 pounds since yesterday morning :) and feel better today, though only snacking on saltines so far.

We had friends over for a barbecue last weekend and made these chicken red onion and mint kebabs, which are one of my very favorites-turns out to be about 5 points a serving (I didn't count all the olive oil since it's a marinade and most of it stays in the bag). Served with brown rice, a little feta and salad and some homemade tzatziki.
Fabulous meal

Where to eat near the swisshotel singapore?

Talked to him and he said the s election is just overwhelming. Thanked you for the recs and asked where you'd recommend in that list for the best local/regional food. He's curious about pepper crab. Any tips?

Where to eat near the swisshotel singapore?

Thank you both! I emailed the link to him and I'll get back to you if he has more questions :). The time zone difference is making our communication a bit challenging.

Where to eat near the swisshotel singapore?

My husband is working for ten days or so in Singapore, and isn't familiar at all with the city. He'll have very limited time to sneak away; where should he head from this hotel? Thanks!

Weight Watchers Foodies -- March Forth Edition! -- March 2014 [OLD]

I did an investment cooking day with a couple friends a week or so ago, and one thing we did was a ton of poached chicken, which I then shredded in my Kitchenaid and we froze in one pound portions. I love beans and lentils, so those are easy to cook in advance, filling and healthy. My favorite crockpot recipe is a jar of pepperoncini poured over a boneless pork roast-shred the meat and make the most fabulous little tacos or put on shredded cabbage with a little cotija or feta for a really flavorful salad. I also roast a ton of veggies at a time and then put them in meal sized containers-my fridge has been freezing everything in the produce drawers, so this helps me not waste stuff and also have filling food to grab.

Weight Watchers Foodies -- March Forth Edition! -- March 2014 [OLD]

Feel your pain. We are selling GS cookies this year and still have cases in the house! It has helped that I've decided to only put things in my mouth that are really worth the calories...not always successful, but makes me more able to ignore the cookies when I know there's sticky toffee pudding tonight.

Weight Watchers Foodies -- March Forth Edition! -- March 2014 [OLD]

Big travel week again for me too...down .2 of a pound, but I'd expected to gain with three dinners out in a row. I did OK traveling-but had three nice dinners out in a row and wasn't completely on my plan. I find it almost impossible to track points when eating out (esp since I'm not at chain restaurants) so just do the best I can with ordering and go from there. This week, the biggest problem was activity-I'd been really active earlier this week, but then drove 13 hours in a few days and worked those days too-so just didn't get much movement in at all. Fortunately, sunny weekend and hopefully I'll get moving today (although today is both high tea for my 8 year old's birthday and our annual St. paddy's day progressive dinner-I'm really gonna have to move to make up those calories!)

Weight Watchers Foodies -- March Forth Edition! -- March 2014 [OLD]

I'm in the same boat; currently out of town one or two nights a week. I've only been doing WW this go around for about 3 weeks, and am losing steadily (not a ton, but steady, so yay!)-my travel days are the toughest. Coworkers of mine always bring frozen meals to eat in their hotel room, but I hate that-if I have to be away from home and family, I want to do something that is enjoyable, not sad :). I've been trying to eat a nice meal out, but focus on good fish or steak at dinner with veggies and a salad, rather than pasta and cream sauces. Skip dessert, but have a nice glass of wine. I am usually able to be more active on my travel days, so that helps (no kids and kid activities to juggle those nights). Sushi is a great idea-though fairly slim pickings in Southern Oregon! Toughest travel times are meals out with coworkers-I'm a fan of finding the top-reviewed local restaurant and getting something smaller and wonderful, but some of them would rather go to the big chain restaurants and indulge. Not many healthy options at the Black Bear Diner :/.

Weight Watchers Foodies -- Groundhog Day Edition! -- February 2014 [OLD]

Dairy Queen, you are amazing! I actually picked a pork loin instead of the roast, so I should be good there. I don't have oranges on hand, but only 1/2 a cup of juice split into at least ten servings should be fine (my loin is four pounds, so I'll get more servings out of it). Same with the avocado...one divided up that much shouldn't be bad. Figure I'll serve with brown rice...I'll report back.

The two recipes you list below sound fabulous! And really, I think I'm just gonna do my two weeks on Simply Filling rather than Simple Start...it works better for how I cook, and I like the exercise incentive that being able to count my activity points gives me.

Next week, two nights away from town traveling. I always eat the worst then....will need to make a plan ahead of time.
