New place in Norwalk

This place was never Cogburn's, although I believe one of the owner's did work there. It was formerly the Uptown Tavern and the Brass Rail.

3 of my favorite Canadian sodas

Please do let us know how you make out, 44. I have also been trying to track down spruce beer for years. Although I live in Connecticut, and have never been to Canada, relatives would bring bière d' épinette home with them from their annual trips to Montreal. I haven't seen it, or tasted it, in about 30 years. I called Marco in Canada and spoke to a woman who said they are planning on marketing it in NY and CT in early 2009. They cannot ship it because it needs to be refrigerated, and dry ice is too cold.

Jeff's in Norwalk

Hi Deborah. "Good" is an understatement for Jeff's Cuisine (http://www.jeffscuisine.com). I have been there several times, and it is consistently excellent. The last time I was there we popped in after a movie (it's right next to a movie theatre complex) for take-out, and as we were waiting for our order to be filled, Jeff gave my son and I a small cup of gumbo to sample. And when we left he called my son over and gave him a piece of pecan pie to take home. Fantastic food, reasonably priced, and customer service personified. What's not to like? I've attached a picture of Jeff holding a tray of his succulent ribs!

Steaks in Stamford

OK, this will sound like it's coming from left field, but I had a steak at the Black Duck in Westport last week and it was delicious. It wasn't a great cut of beef, it wasn't a huge portion, but it was a cooked to order (medium rare), well-marbled, and delicately seasoned (salt, pepper only) NY strip that tasted great. Best of all it was priced right. Granted, there's no wine selection to speak of, and the ambiance (if you want to call it that) is lacking, but for a mid-week dinner on a budget, it fit the bill. Personally, I really like Fleming's, and wish there was one closer to Fairfield County than either NJ or RI.
